In a method for producing printed circuits by etching copper foils laminated with plastic baseplates with cupric chloride, the etching bath is regenerated continuously or intermittently by adding a complex-former such as sodium chloride to dissolve the cuprous chloride formed in the etching reaction, an oxidizing agent such as oxygen gas or hydrogen peroxide, and chlorine ions in the form of chlorine gas or hydrochloric acid. The complex-former and oxidizing agent may be added in combination in the form of sodium chlorate. The adding of the regenerating substances may be carried out under the control of a pH measuring device and a photo-cell detecting the colour of the etching liquid. Excess etching liquid and running water are led into a tank to which a soda solution is added so as to recover cupric chloride.
