Abstract

A B-stage phenolic resin is incorporated in a sealing compound for use in glazing windshields which comprises a mixture of a liquid polysulphide rubber, e.g. poly bis-ethylene-oxymethane polysulphide, carbon black stearic acid, which forms a rubber-like compound, and is cured in situ by a mixture of lead oxide, stearic acid, and tri-ethyleneglycol dihexoate. Various alternatives are given, e.g. tellurium oxide or manganese oxide instead of lead oxide; chromate or dichromate salts instead of the curing mixture; furnace or thermal black instead of carbon black. Examples of B-stage phenolic resins are given only by Trade Names. Fillers, e.g. CaCO3, clays, silica or silicates may be included. The composition may be made up from a two-part pack, one part containing polysulphide, filler, retarder and phenolic resin and the other the curing agent(s) in a plasticizer.
