Abstract
1,001,202. Unit air heaters or coolers. TEMPAIR Ltd., R. A. WALKER, and H. F. STEVENS. May 15, 1963 [May 23, 1962], No. 19923/62. Headings F4H and F4V. A portable air conditioning unit comprises a refrigerant compressor 12, condenser 15 and evaporator 14 mounted on a base 10 and fans 18 and 21 for circulating air over the condenser and evaporator respectively, the resulting air streams being discharged from the unit in opposite directions. Fan 18 is of the axial flow type and draws air in through a grill 17 in base 10 while fan 21 is of the transverse flow type and draws air from the front of the unit over the evaporator 14 and discharges the cooled air through adjustable outlet louvres 25. The base 10 is mounted on legs 11 which have studs 19 supporting a removable tank 22, the latter serving to collect condensate from the evaporator and having a float device which is arranged to switch off the unit when the tank is full. A heating element may be included in the unit. The louvres 25 may be adjusted manually or electrically by remote control and in modifications (not shown) a pump operated in response to the liquid level in tank 22 is provided to empty the latter and the air passing over the evaporator is drawn into the unit at right angles to the line joining the evaporator and condenser.
