Abstract

Trimethoxyisobutyrophenone is prepared by reacting trimethoxybenzene and isobutyronitrile and hydrolysing the imine. Similarly are prepared trimethoxy-aceto- and propiophenones.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions comprise compounds of the formula <FORM:1000782/A5-A6/1> (where R and R1 represent the same or different alkyl radicals) and a solid pharmaceutical carrier. Examples are given of tablets, capsules, pills and suppositories containing trimethoxy-aceto-propio-and -isobutyro-phenones, which have antispasmodic activity. Trimethoxypropiophenone also shows some antiserotonin action and potentiates the hypnotic effect of hexobarbital.
