Abstract
1,000,758. Magnetizing and demagnetizing. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. April 23, 1964 [May 24, 1963], No. 16868/64. Heading H1P. [Also in Division H2] A magnetic holding device is released by saturating the flux path. The magnet NS has a long pole-shoe 12, 14 at either end securing armatures A, B. Saturation of the poleshoes at either end by coils 16, 18 or 24, 26 means that the magnet flux is established to a greater extent through the armature at the other end. Consequently, the armature at the end which has been saturated remains weakly held. The coils may be energized by a D.C. pulse or by A.C. The coils at one end of the pole-shoes (viz. 24 and 26) may be omitted.
