Abstract

A flexible vibration damper comprises inner and outer coaxial cylinder members 10, 12 which carry alternately-arranged outwardly and inwardly-directed radial blades 11, 13 respectively to form cells, each of which accommodates one or more solid circular blades 21 of elastic material, the blades each having circular flat end faces 23, 24 parallel to each other and of smaller diameter than that of the block, an outer circular peripheral surface 22 of smaller width than that of the block, and inclined annular surfaces 27 which extend from the end faces 23, 24 to the peripheral surface 22. The blades 21 are slightly compressed within the cells by an end plate 18 which is bolted at 19 to the member 12, the latter being secured by bolts 14 to a flange 16 on a driving sleeve 17. For a given block diameter D the width W is 0À4-0À6 D, the diameter E of an end face is 0À5-0À6 D and the width P of the peripheral surface is 0À2-0À3 D. The number of cells may vary from between 6 and 16 and, if desired, the blades 11, 13 may be slightly tapered. Specifications 641,425 and 802,400 are referred to.
