Abstract

1,000,127. Sewing machines. I.A.S. BICOR CORPORATION. July 9, 1964 [July 17, 1963], No. 28369/64. Heading D1G. An embroidery machine comprises a plurality of sets of parallel needles, means for shifting said sets to a position in which only the needles of a selected set are in operative position, and means to actuate only the needles of the set in the operative position. A needle bed 32 is formed with slots 31 slidably supporting horizontal needle bars 26 each carrying a needle 20, the latter being threaded consecutively with red, yellow and green threads to provide three sets of needles. The arrangement is such that the needle bed may be shifted laterally to position the needles of a selected set in an operative position in alignment with holes 22 in a throat plate 23, when only the selected set is actuated to produce embroidery of the corresponding colour in a workpiece 21. The needle bars are retained by a cover plate 33 in bed 32, and the latter is secured to a block 34 which is in turn secured to a pair of parallel rods 38, 39 slidably mounted in a fired block 50. A bar 41, rigid with the rods 38, 39, carries a follower 42 engaging a cam slot 43 in a disc 44 which may be turned, either manually or by automatic means, to shift a selected set of needles to the operative position. The needle bars are formed with two series of aligned notches 29 and 30. A bar 52, fired to block 50, is formed with projections 56 which enter the notches 30 of the inoperative needle bars. A bar 53, fired to a crosshead 65 slidable on a fired rod 68, is formed with projections 54 which enter the notches 29 of the operative needle bars. Crosshead 65 is connected by a link 60 to a crank 58 on a shaft 59, oscillation of which thereby serves to reciprocate the operative needle bars. The tips of the inoperative needles are supported by forked rods which may be lowered to permit threading of the needles.
