Le brevet principal concernait une grue à mât télescopique munie d'une flèche brisée, susceptibles d'être tous deux rabattus à l'horizontale pour le transport. L'articulation de la flèche brisée permettait de replier côte à côte le pied de flèche 17 et la pointe de flèche 18, pour diminuer l'encombrement en hauteur pendant le transport. Les manœuvres de repliage et de déploiement de la flèche 17-18 comprenaient en particulier une opération consistant à faire passer ou non le cadre principal 8 derrière une sellette 45-46 (voir notamment les fig. 6 et 10 du brevet principal). Pour engager le câble 8 derrière la sellette 4546, il était nécessaire de donner du mou à ce câble en le déroulant à partir du tambour de treuil 36. L'expérience montre que sur certains types de grues, cette manœuvre présente des inconvénients. En effet, le grand nombre des mouflages définis par ce câble entre le tambour du treuil 36 et le point d'attache 44 sur la pointe de flèche 18, oblige à exercer une traction très importante sur le câble 8 au niveau de la flèche, pour le dérouler suffisamment du tambour de treuil. Par ailleurs, on sait qu'un câble déroulé à la main tend à venir se placer ensuite de façon anarchique lorsque le treuil fonctionne, ce qui risque d'endommager les torons dudit câble.The main patent was for a telescopic mast crane with a broken boom, both of which could be folded down for transport. Grâce à cette disposition, on voit qu'il suffit d'attacher l'extrémité du câble sur l'un ou l'autre des deux points prévus à cet effet sur la pointe de flèche, pour effectuer la manœuvre complète de déploiement et de relevage de flèche, sans jamais avoir à dérouler du câble sur le tambour du treuil de commande.
