Abstract
[Procédé de renforcement d’une pièce en acier par carbonitruration] Ce procédé de renforcement (1) d’une pièce en acier comprenant une étape de carbonitruration comprenant une première sous-étape de cémentation et une deuxième sous-étape de nitruration, est caractérisé en ce que les première et deuxième sous-étapes de cémentation et de nitruration de l’étape de carbonitruration de la pièce sont réalisées dans un même cycle de traitement thermique (2). Description
La présente invention concerne un procédé de renforcement d’une pièce en acier, notamment en acier fortement allié, ainsi qu’une pièce renforcée par la mise en œuvre dudit procédé.
En particulier, la pièce renforcée peut être une partie constitutive d’un roulement, notamment une des bagues du roulement, et éventuellement les éléments roulants.
De façon avantageuse, l’invention trouve son application dans le renforcement des bagues d’un roulement de moteur pour aéronef.
Les roulements de moteur pour aéronef peuvent être soumis à d’importantes charges qui peuvent engendrer des endommagements par fatigue.
Les roulements doivent être équipés de bagues avec des chemins de roulement d’une dureté élevée pour résister aux déformations plastiques localisées et ayant une bonne résistance à la fatigue de roulement.
Par ailleurs, d’autres surfaces fonctionnelles des bagues du roulement, par exemple une collerette ou encore une cage écureuil, « squirrel cage » en langue anglaise, nécessitent également d’avoir une bonne tenue à la fatigue et de bonnes résistance mécanique et ténacité pour supporter les charges auxquelles elles sont soumises.
Généralement, ces bagues sont constituées d’acier M50NiL, traité par cémentation. L’acier M50NiL est un acier allié à faible teneur de carbone avec des ajouts de molybdène, de chrome et de nickel. Les traitements par cémentation consistent à obtenir un enrichissement superficiel en carbone de l’acier et permettent ainsi aux pièces traitées d’avoir une dureté très élevée avec d’excellentes propriétés de résistance à la fatigue de roulement.
Classiquement, sur une bague de roulement, on adapte la profondeur de la cémentation, c’est-à-dire l’épaisseur de la couche enrichie en carbone, en fonction des caractéristiques de la surface de roulement, et de la valeur maximale de la pression de contact.
Le recours à la cémentation peut toutefois rencontrer quelques limitations notamment en cas de besoin de performances accrues, par exemple lorsque des valeurs très élevées de pression de contact de Hertz sont nécessaires en fatigue de contact pur ou dans certaines conditions de température ou de contamination.
Pour dépasser ces limitations, on a recours à une étape de nitruration qui intervient après des étapes successives et préalables de cémentation et de trempe.
Ce procédé cémentation-trempe-nitruration, connu sous le nom de « duplex hardening » en langue anglaise, améliore grandement les propriétés de résistance à la fatigue et de résistance à l’usure des surfaces traitées.
Cependant, la mise en œuvre de ce procédé est complexe à cause du nombre et de la durée des étapes nécessaires au cycle de production, en particulier à cause des opérations de rectification des surfaces, exécutées pour éliminer les déformations dues à la trempe et au changement dimensionnel après nitruration.
Au vu de ce qui précède, l’invention vise à optimiser le cycle de production de surfaces traitées. L’invention vise également à améliorer les propriétés mécaniques et tribologiques des pièces obtenues par rapport à un traitement par cémentation seule, avec des coûts de production équivalents.
L’invention a pour objet un procédé de renforcement d’une pièce en acier comprenant une étape de carbonitruration comprenant une première sous-étape de cémentation et une deuxième sous-étape de nitruration.
Dans ce procédé, les première et deuxième sous-étapes de cémentation et de nitruration de l’étape de carbonitruration de la pièce sont réalisées dans un même cycle de traitement thermique.
Par « cycle de traitement thermique », on entend une montée en température de la pièce à renforcer à partir d’une température basse jusqu’à une température élevée, un maintien de la pièce à la température élevée, et une baisse de la température de la pièce vers la température initiale basse ou en dessous de cette température initiale basse.
En comparaison avec un procédé classique de type « duplex hardening », l’intégration des sous-étapes de cémentation et nitruration dans le même cycle de traitement thermique présente l’avantage de simplifier le procédé de fabrication et de réduire les coûts de production.
En comparaison avec un procédé de cémentation sans nitruration, les pièces traitées selon le procédé de l’invention développent de meilleures résistances à la fatigue et à l’usure, avec des coûts de fabrication équivalents.
De préférence, l’étape de carbonitruration est réalisée à une pression inférieure ou égale à 150 mbar.
Avantageusement, l’acier de la pièce est un acier M50NiL.
L’acier M50NiL est défini dans des standards internationaux tel que l’AMS6278 et est caractérisé par la composition chimique suivante donnée en pourcentage massique : Carbone 0,11-0,15; Manganèse 0,15-0,35; Silicium 0,10-0,25; Phosphore 0,015 max; Soufre 0,010 max ; Chrome 4,00-4,25; Nickel 3,20-3,60; Molybdène 4,00-4,50; Vanadium 1,13-1,33; Cobalt 0,25 max.; Tungstène 0,15 max.; Cuivre 0,10 max.
Selon une caractéristique avantageuse, de l’azote et du carbone utilisés lors de l’étape de carbonitruration sont amenés en surface de l’acier de la pièce sous forme d’ammoniac et acétylène, respectivement.
De préférence, le procédé comprend en outre une étape de durcissement réalisée après l’étape de carbonitruration et dans le même cycle de traitement thermique que cette dernière.
Par exemple, le procédé comprend en outre une étape de durcissement et une étape de recuisson (techniquement « recuit »), chacune des étapes de carbonitruration, de durcissement et de recuisson étant réalisée dans un cycle de traitement thermique qui lui est propre, ladite étape de recuisson étant réalisée après l’étape de carbonitruration et avant l’étape de durcissement.
Avantageusement, l’étape de durcissement comprend une première sous-étape d’austénitisation de la pièce suivie d’une deuxième sous-étape de trempe de la pièce.
Selon une autre caractéristique avantageuse, le procédé comprend en outre une étape de post-traitement réalisée après l’étape de durcissement et dans un cycle de traitement thermique différent de ceux des autres étapes du procédé.
Avantageusement, l’étape de post-traitement comprend le revenu de la pièce.
Par exemple, la pièce en acier est une bague de roulement.
Selon un deuxième aspect, l’invention a pour objet une bague de roulement renforcée par la mise en œuvre du procédé de renforcement décrit ci-dessus.
D’autres buts, caractéristiques et avantages de l’invention apparaîtront à la lecture de la description suivante, donnée uniquement à titre d’exemple non limitatif, et faite en référence aux dessins annexés sur lesquels :
Le procédé de renforcement 1 selon un exemple de réalisation de l’invention va être décrit en référence aux figures 1 et 2.
Le procédé de renforcement 1 comprend une étape de carbonitruration 10 et comprenant une première sous-étape de nitruration 10b et une deuxième sous-étape de cémentation 10a qui est réalisée simultanément ou successivement à la première sous-étape et dans un même cycle de traitement thermique 2. L’étape de carbonitruration 10 est réalisée de préférence, à basse pression.
Un cycle de traitement thermique est caractérisé par une montée en température à partir d’une température initiale basse jusqu’à une température élevée, un maintien à la température élevée, et une baisse de la température jusqu’à une température proche de la température initiale basse.
L’évolution de la température pendant le procédé de renforcement 1 est représentée dans le diagramme température – temps de la et illustre la succession de cycles de traitement thermique que subissent les pièces traitées par le procédé de l’invention.
Sur la , on a représenté quatre cycles de traitement thermique, numérotés de 2 à 5. Les cycles de traitement 2 à 5 sont des cycles de traitement thermiques différents et successifs.
Le cycle de traitement thermique 2 correspondant à l’étape de carbonitruration 10, commence par la sous-étape de cémentation 10a qui utilise de l’acétylène pour constituer l’apport en carbone et se poursuit avec la sous-étape de nitruration 10b qui utilise de l’ammoniac pour constituer l’apport en azote. La température élevée du cycle de traitement thermique 2 peut par exemple être comprise entre 800°C et 1000°C et est maintenue pendant la durée nécessaire à l’enrichissement souhaité en carbone et azote des couches superficielles des pièces traitées. L’étape 10 prend fin avec une baisse rapide de la température des pièces traitées. Les pièces traitées sont par exemple ramenées à la température ambiante. Le traitement de carbonitruration peut durer de 10 à 50 heures en fonction de l’épaisseur cémentée choisie (de 1 jusqu’à plusieurs millimètres). Comme indiqué précédemment, l’étape de carbonitruration est réalisée de préférence, à une pression basse, inférieure ou égale à 150 mbar.
Lors de l’étape 11 suivante, on procède à la recuisson des pièces pour augmenter leur ductilité. L’étape 11 de recuisson correspond au cycle de traitement thermique 3. Durant ce cycle les pièces traitées sont chauffées et maintenues un temps donné à une température déterminée, puis sont refroidies lentement, par exemple jusqu’à la température ambiante. La température élevée du cycle de traitement thermique 3 est inférieure à la température élevée du cycle de traitement thermique 2 précédent. Par exemple, la phase de recuit se déroule dans une plage de température comprise entre 650-700°C et pour une durée approximative de 4 à 5 heures.
Lors de l’étape 12 suivante, on réalise le durcissement des pièces par un chauffage important permettant d’atteindre l’austénitisation des pièces (sous-étape 12a), suivi d’un refroidissement rapide assurant la trempe des pièces (sous-étape 12b). L’étape 12 de durcissement des pièces correspond au cycle de traitement thermique 4. La température élevée du cycle de traitement thermique 4 est sensiblement égale à celle du cycle de traitement thermique 2 précédent. L’austénitisation peut être réalisée à une température de 1080-1120°C et pour une durée courte garantissant l’homogénéité thermique de la pièce tout en évitant le grossissement de grain. Cette opération complète de trempe peut ne pas dépasser les 2 heures en général.
Lors de la dernière étape 13, on procède à des post-traitements de revenu pour augmenter la résilience des pièces. L’étape 13 de post-traitement correspond au cycle de traitement thermique 5. La température élevée du cycle de traitement thermique 5 est inférieure à celle du cycle de traitement thermique 2 précédent. Une succession d’étapes de froid et de revenus (le revenu dans la gamme 530-560°C) est appliquée pour une durée totale du procédé par exemple comprise entre 8 et 12 heures.
Le procédé a été mis au point pour enrichir la couche superficielle des pièces traitées sur des épaisseurs dépassant 1mm.
Après traitement selon le procédé de l’invention, les pièces ont une couche superficielle comprenant de la martensite enrichie en carbone et en azote, des carbures plus fins et des carbonitrures. Des essais effectués par la demanderesse ont montré que l’épaisseur de cette couche pouvait atteindre des valeurs entre 0.35mm à 0.40mm, soit des valeurs suffisantes pour une application dans le domaine des chemins de roulements.
La courbe de dureté illustrée en présente l’évolution de la dureté en fonction de la distance à la surface pour des pièces traitées selon le procédé de l’invention. Les valeurs obtenues sont comparables à celles obtenues par cémentation seule.
La illustre les pourcentages massiques d’azote (courbe 22) et de carbone (courbe 21) contenus en fonction de la distance à la surface pour des pièces traitées selon le procédé de l’invention.
Les essais effectués par la demanderesse ont permis de réaliser des enrichissements en azote allant à des profondeurs jusqu’à 400 μm avec un pourcentage massique d’azote minimal de 0.35%, ce qui est significatif et suffisant pour permettre d’obtenir des microstructures ayant des performances supérieures à celles obtenues par cémentation seule. On relève en parallèle une teneur de carbone en surface élevée juste après 200 µm avec une valeur de 0.66%. En effet, la combinaison optimale de carbone et d’azote permet d’atteindre les meilleures propriétés de surface et notamment d’améliorer la dureté de la couche carbonitrurée de surface (minimum 770-780 HV montré dans la ). Au-delà de 100 μm les contraintes résiduelles sont des contraintes de compression. Après un traitement optimisé et des opérations de meulage, il est attendu que les surfaces traitées selon le procédé de l’invention ne présentent que des contraintes résiduelles de compression, bénéfiques pour la bonne tenue à la fatigue.
La présente une variante du procédé de renforcement 1 selon l’invention dans laquelle l’étape de carbonitruration 10 et l’étape de durcissement 12 sont réalisées dans le même cycle de traitement thermique 6 et sans avoir recours à l’étape de recuisson 11. Cette variante du procédé réduit encore la durée du cycle de production.
Claims (10)
- Procédé de renforcement (1) d’une pièce en acier comprenant une étape de carbonitruration (10) comprenant une première sous-étape de cémentation (10a) et une deuxième sous-étape de nitruration (10b), caractérisé en ce que les première et deuxième sous-étapes de cémentation (10a) et de nitruration (10b) de l’étape de carbonitruration de la pièce sont réalisées dans un même cycle de traitement thermique (2,6).
- Procédé selon la revendication 1, dans lequel l’étape de carbonitruration (10) est réalisée à une pression inférieure ou égale à 150mbar.
- Procédé selon la revendication 1 ou 2, dans lequel l’acier de la pièce est un acier M50NiL.
- Procédé selon l’une quelconque des revendications précédentes, dans lequel de l’azote et du carbone utilisés lors de l’étape de carbonitruration (10) sont amenés en surface de l’acier de la pièce sous forme d’ammoniac et acétylène, respectivement.
- Procédé selon l’une quelconque des revendications précédentes, comprenant en outre une étape de durcissement (12) réalisée après l’étape de carbonitruration (10) et dans le même cycle de traitement thermique (6) que cette dernière.
- Procédé selon l’une quelconque des revendications 1 à 4, comprenant en outre une étape de durcissement (12) et une étape de recuisson (11), chacune des étapes de carbonitruration (10), de durcissement (12) et de recuisson (11) étant réalisée dans un cycle de traitement thermique qui lui est propre (2,3,4), ladite étape de recuisson (11) étant réalisée après l’étape de carbonitruration (10) et avant l’étape de durcissement (12).
- Procédé selon l’une quelconque des revendications 5 ou 6, dans lequel l’étape de durcissement (12) comprend une première sous-étape d’austénitisation (12a) de la pièce suivie d’une deuxième sous-étape de trempe (12b) de la pièce, ledit procédé comprenant en outre une étape de post-traitement (13) réalisée après l’étape de durcissement (12) et dans un cycle de traitement thermique différent (5) de ceux des autres étapes du procédé.
- Procédé selon la revendication 7, dans lequel l’étape de post-traitement (13) comprend un revenu de la pièce.
- Procédé selon l’une quelconque des revendications précédentes, dans lequel la pièce en acier est une bague de roulement.
- Bague de roulement renforcée par la mise en œuvre du procédé de renforcement selon l’une quelconque des revendications 1 à 9.
