Abstract

Service capsule. Description

Capsule service

The field of the present invention relates to a service cap, in particular intended to equip an opening of a neck of a bottle containing a liquid, for example milk, said neck comprising a detachable lid covering the opening of the neck of the bottle.

In fact, this invention finds particular application in the field of storage and distribution of dairy products, in particular in the field of milk bottles.

It is known to contain milk in an opaque milk bottle made of monolayer or multilayer plastic material produced for example by extrusion blow molding. This bottle comprises in known manner an opening at the level of a neck of the bottle. It is also known to protect the milk in the bottle by covering the opening with a detachable seal, glued or heat-sealed on the neck around the opening. The cover may be made of plastic material, or include a layer of metallic material, in particular aluminum, and it may include a tab to facilitate its tearing off from the neck. This cap seals the bottle tightly and allows the milk to be kept longer in the bottle.

For reasons of cleanliness, this capped neck is capped with a cap covering the neck and the lid, said cap and said neck comprising threads and counter-threads. To be able to pour milk, a user unscrews and removes the cap, then tears off the cover by pulling on the tab. Once the milk has been poured, the user screws the cap back onto the neck and stores the bottle containing the remaining milk in a cool place for later reuse.

This technical solution, comprising a cap and a cap, protects the milk in the capped bottle during storage, and allows the bottle to be recapped once the cap has been removed.

However, this solution has several drawbacks.

First of all, the user must perform several manipulations to be able to pour milk. During these manipulations, the cork must be removed from the bottle and placed on a surface that may be dirty, which is not hygienic.

Then the cap is screwed onto the neck. The screwing gesture is not suitable for children, and in the event of incomplete screwing, the cap does not seal the opening well. This is also true for adults, because the tolerances of the threads or counter-threads of the neck of the bottle are wide due to the manufacturing process by extrusion blow molding, which makes it difficult to ensure that the screwing of the cork on the bottle is sufficient to seal the opening well.

In the event of incomplete screwing, as children and some adults tend to lift a bottle by the cap, the cap may separate from the bottle and the open bottle may fall to the ground, letting the milk escape.

In addition, European Union directive n° 2019/904 of June 05, 2019 relating to the reduction of the impact of certain plastic products on the environment proposes that single-use beverage containers - which include milk bottles - made from plastic, can only be put on the market if their caps and lids remain attached to the containers. There are even plans to make this mandatory in a future standard. The current screw cap solution does not meet these expectations.

It is therefore in an approach of inventive activity that the applicant wished to propose an alternative solution to the existing one making it possible to guarantee protection of the product contained in a bottle overcoming the problems of the prior art and anticipating legislative expectations.

This solution can have different variants, as illustrated below.

To this end, the invention relates to a service capsule comprising an annular body and a lid covering said annular body, connected together by a hinge, and comprising reversible or non-reversible fastening means of the lid on the body, said service capsule being configured to capping or covering an opening of a neck of a bottle equipped with a detachable lid, the detachable lid being accessible through the service capsule in the open position, characterized in that the lid of the service capsule in the closed position is configured to come into contact with the neck and to block the orifice of the uncapped neck, that is to say once the detachable seal has been removed.

Advantageously, the cover of the service cap in the closed position is configured to come into contact with a neck of a bottle fitted with said service cap mounted on said neck, capped or uncapped.

According to an additional characteristic for a first embodiment, the means for fixing the cover to the body are reversible and are formed by a lug issuing from and projecting laterally from the body and cooperating with a reservation or hole in the cover, or vice versa.

According to another additional characteristic, the reversible fixing means are arranged on the service capsule, opposite the hinge.

According to an alternative additional characteristic, the cover comprises a tab connected to the rest of the cover by a blade and by at least one breakable bridge, the reservation or aperture of the cover being arranged in said tab.

According to an additional characteristic, the lid comprises clipping means comprising in particular gadroons coming from the lid and oriented towards the inside of the lid. These clipping means are configured to clip the lid onto a neck of a bottle fitted with the service cap, once the neck has been uncapped.

According to an additional characteristic for a second embodiment, the means for fixing the cover to the body are formed by a plurality of breakable bridges connecting the cover with an element of the body. This element of the body can be added and fixed to the body, or come from one material with it.

According to an additional characteristic, the hinge comprises a deployable part held to one of the cover or the body or both by breakable bridges.

According to an additional characteristic for a third embodiment, the means for fixing the cover to the body are reversible. They are in particular formed by at least two lugs issuing from and projecting laterally from the periphery of the body and cooperating with corresponding reservations or slots in the cover, or vice versa.

According to an additional characteristic, the hinge comprises two blades side by side each having a preferential bending zone. These blades are arranged "butterfly", according to the term used in the field of the manufacture of service capsules.

According to another additional characteristic, the cover comprises bistable sealing means comprising a peripheral lip and a concave central surface configured to present a contracted position presenting the retracted lip and the concave surface oriented towards the inside of the capsule, and a position deployed presenting the concave surface towards the outside of the service capsule and the protruding lip. In the contracted position, the sealing means do not interfere with the mounting of the service cap on a sealed bottle neck. In the deployed position, the lip of the sealing means can come into contact with the edge of the opening of an uncapped bottle neck.

The invention also relates to a bottle comprising a neck having an opening and comprising a service cap mounted on said neck, said service cap comprising all or part of the characteristics of the service cap described above.

According to a characteristic of the invention, the opening of the neck is covered by a detachable cover.

The invention relates to a service cap 1. This service cap 1 can cap a bottle, in particular a bottle of long-life milk, uperized at high temperature or not. This bottle has a neck 2 in which is formed an opening 20 delimited by a peripheral edge 21 of the neck 2. For reasons of size and clarity, only the neck 2 of the bottle is shown in the figures.

The opening 20 of the neck 2 of the bottle is covered and capped by a detachable seal. In fact, this lid can be made of plastic material, but is in a known manner formed of several layers comprising a layer of an aluminum film and a layer of a sealing film of thermoplastic material of the polyethylene type, for example. The sealing film layer is placed in contact with the upper surface of the neck 2 and is sealed there. The lid may also have a side tab to facilitate its tearing. For reasons of clarity of the figures, the cover is not shown in the figures.

The service capsule 1 comprises an annular body 3 delimiting an orifice 30 and a cover 4 which caps the annular body 3. A hinge 5 connects the annular body 3 and the lid 4. This hinge 5 makes it possible to open the service capsule 1 by pivoting the lid 4 around the hinge 5 to make the orifice 30 accessible. so-called closed position, in which case the cover 4 covers the orifice 30. The service capsule 1 can also be in the so-called open position, in which case the orifice 30 is accessible.

Throughout the description and the claims, the service cap 1 and the bottle topped with such a service cap 1 are considered placed on a horizontal surface, the neck 2 of the bottle being oriented upwards and the base of the bottle being oriented downwards, the body 3 of the service capsule 1 being at the bottom, the lid 4 being at the top when the lid 4 is closed on the body 3 and the hinge 5 being on a rear side part of the service capsule 1. The part side of the service cap 1 opposite the hinge 5 is considered to be at the front of the service cap 1. The service cap 1 comprises an interior space partially delimited by the internal surfaces of the body 3 and of the lid 4.

Thus, for example, figure 1d shows the front of the service cap 1 on the right of the figure, figures 4c, 7d, 8a, 9c show the front of the service cap 1 on the left of the figures, figures 2d, 3d show a front view of service capsule 1, and Figures 5c, 6c show a rear view of service capsule 1.

Besides the hinge 5, the body 3 and the cover 4 are connected by fastening means 6. These fastening means 6 may or may not be reversible. Various alternatives of fastening means 6 are described below.

The service capsule 1 can cover a neck 2 of a bottle of milk for example. When service cap 1 is mounted on neck 2 of the bottle, lid 4 is in contact with neck 2.

The service cap 1 can be screwed or clipped onto the neck 2 of the bottle.

The service cap 1 and the neck 2 of the bottle can thus comprise threads and corresponding counter-threads.

The neck 2 of the bottle may also comprise, in a complementary or alternative manner to the threads and counter-threads, a peripheral protrusion on which means 7 for holding the service cap 1 are clipped. This peripheral growth can be continuous or discontinuous. These holding means 7 hold the service cap 1 on the neck 2 of the bottle, as illustrated in all the figures. These holding means 7 can be formed by a belt at the bottom of the service capsule 1, comprising a succession of serrations all along the belt forming teeth pointing downwards, as illustrated in FIGS. 2c1 and 2c2. This belt has a bending zone allowing all or part of the belt to be pivoted towards the inside of the service capsule 1, as illustrated in particular in FIGS. 1b, 2b, 4b, 5b, 6b. When mounting the service cap 1 on a bottle neck 2, these teeth pass, by deformation of the belt, under the peripheral protrusion of the neck 2 and maintain the service cap 1 on the neck 2. This belt can be continuous or discontinuous and be formed only of teeth.

According to an alternative embodiment, this belt may comprise a peripheral extra thickness replacing the teeth and allowing the same holding effect, as illustrated in particular in FIGS. 3c1, 3c2, 7c, 7d, 8b, 9b.

According to another alternative embodiment, this belt may comprise, or be formed, a succession of internal lugs all along the belt, replacing the teeth and allowing the same holding effect, as illustrated in particular in FIG. 3b.

According to an alternative embodiment of the solutions presented above, the belt may also not include a bending zone, it then exerts its holding effect without prior manipulation or pivoting, as illustrated in particular in Figures 3b, 3c1, 7b, 8b , 9b.

The service cap 1 can cover a neck 2 of a bottle sealed by a lid.

In fact, when the cover 4 of the service capsule 1 is on the neck 2, the cover and the opening 20 are in the orifice 30 of the service capsule 1. When the service capsule 1 is in the open position, the operculum is then accessible. A user can then remove this lid to make the opening 20 of the bottle accessible. When the service capsule 1 is in the closed position, the lid is then inaccessible to a user.

The presence of the lid on neck 2 does not prevent the mounting of the service cap 1 on neck 2 and the contact of the lid 4 with the sealed and/or uncapped neck 2. In fact, the service capsule 1 can cover the capped and/or uncapped neck 2, the holding means 7 having a clearance when they are mounted on the neck 2 making it possible to compensate for the difference in height due to the thickness of the operculum. The cover 4 may alternatively or in a complementary manner have elastic deformation characteristics making it possible to also compensate for the difference in height due to the thickness of the lid. The hinge 5 can also deform to compensate for this difference in height, as shown in Figures 3a to 3e, 4a to 4e, 6a to 6e and 8a to 8c.

When neck 2 is sealed, service capsule 1 can be screwed or clipped onto neck 2. Lid 4 comes into contact with neck 2, more particularly with the cover of neck 2.

When the neck 2 is uncapped, that is to say once the service cap 1 has been opened for the first time to remove the cover, the cover 4 of the service cap 1 can be closed so that the service cap 1 goes into position closed. The lid 4 of the service capsule 1 in the closed position then comes into contact with the neck 2, and the lid 4 closes the opening 20 of the uncapped neck 2, that is to say once the detachable cover has been removed.

As illustrated in particular in the figures, 1e, 2e, 4d, 5d, 6d, 9d, the cover 4 has a support zone which comes into contact against the upper surface of the neck 2, at the level of the edge 21 of the opening 20 from neck 2.

This bearing area can be flat, as shown in Figures 1e, 2e, or include a circular lip in the shape of lips to concentrate the bearing surface. This support zone may include several concentric lips, as illustrated in particular in Figures 4d, 5d, 6d, 9d. This or these lips can be attached to the cover 4 and can be formed from an elastomeric material compatible with the material of the cover 4.

The lid 4 may also include lips which penetrate wholly or partly into the uncapped opening 20 of the neck 2, as illustrated in particular in FIGS. 3c2, 3e, 8b.

The fixing means 6 of the lid 4 on the body 3 of the service capsule 1 can be reversible, that is to say they can allow successive closures and openings of the service capsule 1. These fastening means 6 may be formed by a lug issuing from and protruding laterally from the body 3 and cooperating with a reservation or hole in the cover 4, as illustrated in FIGS. 1a to 1e, 2a to 2e, 7a to 7e. According to an embodiment not illustrated here, these fixing means 6 can be formed by a lug coming from and projecting laterally from the cover 4 and cooperating with a reservation or opening of the body 3.

These reversible fixing means 6 can be arranged on the service capsule 1, and more particularly opposite the hinge 5, as illustrated in FIGS. 2a to 2e.

As illustrated in FIGS. 2a to 2e, cover 4 includes a tab 40 connected to the rest of cover 4 by a blade and by at least one breakable bridge. The tongue 40 is here connected to the cover 4 by breakable bridges on the two substantially vertical sides of the tongue 40, as illustrated in particular in FIG. 2d or 2e. The reservation or opening of the cover 4 is arranged in said tab 40. Tearing off these breakable bridges makes it possible to lift the tab 40 of the cover 4 and thus free the lug from the opening.

But the reversible fixing means 6 can also be formed by at least two lugs coming from and projecting laterally from the periphery of the body 3 and cooperating with corresponding reservations or openings of the cover 4, as illustrated in Figures 1a to 1e, and 7a to 7th. According to an embodiment not illustrated here, these fixing means 6 can be formed inversely by lugs coming from and projecting laterally from the cover 4 and cooperating with reservations or openings of the body 3.

According to an alternative embodiment of the invention not illustrated here, the fixing means 6 of the cover 4 on the body 3 comprise a part coming from one of the body 3 or from the cover 4 and connected by breakable bridges or a zone tearable, and mounted welded to the other of the lid 4 or of the body 3. This part is preferably but optionally located on a part of the service cap 1 opposite the hinge 5. Thus, it is easy to make the service cap 1 by open position and securing it in the closed position. A first opening indicator is thus obtained, the elements of which do not detach from the service capsule 1.

The fixing means 6 of the lid 4 on the body 3 of the service cap 1 can also be scored, that is to say they are broken once a first opening of the service cap 1 has been made, as illustrated in the figures 2a to 2e, 3a to 3e, 4a to 4e, 5a to 5e, 6a to 6e, 8a to 8c and 9a to 9e.

Thus, the means 6 for fixing the cover 4 to the body 3 of the service capsule 1 can be formed by a plurality of breakable bridges connecting the cover 4 with an element of the body 3. Like the part described above, this element of the body 3 can be attached and fixed to the body 3, or be made in one piece with the latter. And conversely, the means 6 for fixing the cover 4 to the body 3 of the service cap 1 can be formed by a plurality of breakable bridges connecting the body 3 with an element of the cover 4.

Hinge 5 may also comprise a deployable part held to one of cover 4 or body 3, or both by breakable bridges, as illustrated in FIGS. 6a to 6e. Once the bridges have been torn off, the hinge 5 can deform and lengthen, which facilitates the unscrewing and removal of the lid 4 from the opening 20 of the neck 2 of the bottle, as well as its screwing back on.

The lid 4 may also include means for clipping said lid 4 onto the neck 2 once it has been uncapped, as illustrated in Figures 3a to 3e. The neck 2 has a peripheral protrusion on which the clipping means of the cover 4 are clipped, as illustrated in FIGS. 3c2 and 3e. This peripheral outgrowth of neck 2 can be continuous, but it can be discontinuous.

These clipping means may include in particular gadroons from the cover 4 and oriented towards the inside of the cover 4, as illustrated in Figures 3b, 3e, 9b, 9e. These gadroons are clipped onto the peripheral protrusion. The peripheral outgrowth of neck 2 can be replaced by a groove or a peripheral recess, continuous or discontinuous.

These clipping means can also be formed by a continuous peripheral groove on the inside of the cover 4, or alternatively by gadroons extending over the inner periphery of the cover 4, which cooperate with the peripheral protuberance of the uncapped neck 2, as illustrated for example in Figure 3c2 or 9b to 9e, or vice versa.

In the embodiments illustrated by FIGS. 3a to 3e, the body 3 has a flexible and perforated part. When the lid 4 is clipped onto the uncapped neck 2, this part deforms and sags, just like the hinge 5.

In the embodiment illustrated in FIGS. 9a to 9e, the service cap 1 comprises means 7 for holding the service cap 1 on the neck 2 of a bottle, the annular body 3 of the service cap 1 comprising these means of maintenance 7. The service capsule 1 comprises breakable bridges forming means 6 for fixing the cover 4 to the body 3, said means being irreversible. The cover 4 also comprises clipping means making it possible to clip the cover 4 onto the neck 2, in the form of gadroons inside the cover 4, which can cooperate with a discontinuous peripheral recess of the neck 2. These gadroons can be replaced by a continuous peripheral outgrowth.

When the service capsule 1 is mounted on a capped neck 2, the holding means 7 cooperate with the neck 2. The clipping means of the cover 4 are in contact with the peripheral recess of the neck 2, but they are not engaged with those -this. This leaves sufficient space for the thickness of the operculum covering neck 2.

When the breakable bridges connecting body 3 to lid 4 of service capsule 1 are broken, service capsule 1 can be opened to remove the seal. Once the cap has been removed, the play of the holding means 7 allows the clipping means to cooperate with the peripheral recess of the neck 2 by engaging on them to close the service capsule 1. In the closed position, the lid 4 then comes into contact with the peripheral edge 21 of the neck 2. Thus, the service capsule 1 is maintained in the closed position even if the breakable bridges are broken.

The hinge 5 can be formed from a single part, as illustrated in FIGS. 3b to 3e, 4a to 4e, 5a to 5e, or 8a, but it can also comprise two blades side by side each having a preferential bending zone, as shown in Figures 1c-1e, 2c2, 7b-7e. The preferred folding zones are substantially perpendicular to the plane of rotation of the hinge 5, within a few degrees. But these preferential bending zones may in particular not be carried by directions parallel to each other. These blades have a so-called “butterfly” arrangement, according to the term used in the field of the manufacture of service capsules, that is to say that they are symmetrical, and substantially parallel to each other. Due to the rounded shape of service capsule 1, these blades appear as two stylized butterfly wings next to each other when viewed from the rear of the closed service capsule 1. Such a “butterfly” hinge 5 has the advantage of having a stable state in the open position and in the closed position, and an unstable state between these two positions which brings the service capsule 1 elastically back to one of the two stable positions. This is due in particular to the fact that the directions of the preferential bending zones are not parallel.

A variant embodiment of the invention illustrated in FIGS. 8a to 8c shows the cover 4 comprising bistable sealing means.

These bistable sealing means comprise a peripheral lip and a concave central surface which can have two stable positions, a contracted position and an extended position.

In the contracted position, the lip is erased and the central surface of the lid 4 is concave towards the inside of the service capsule 1, as illustrated in FIG. 8b. Figure 8c shows a detail view of the contracted lip. We see a gap between the cover 4 and the opening 20 giving way to a lid.

In the deployed position, the central surface of the lid 4 is convex towards the inside of the service cap 1, and therefore concave towards the outside of the service cap 1. The lip is then projecting and comes into contact with the edges of the opening 20 to achieve a seal.

Of course, according to embodiments of the invention not illustrated here, the service capsule 1 can be made by replacing all or part of the breakable bridges presented above by one or more tearable zones when applying a force of tearing, and which allows(attempts) to carry out the same technical function. This or these tearable zone(s) can be torn punctually beforehand to facilitate the tearing of this zone when a user opens the service capsule 1 for the first time.

The service capsule 1 can be made by injection of a polyolefin-type thermoplastic material, in particular polypropylene, high-density polyethylene, or by a mixture of polyolefins and other compatible materials.

It is thus possible to propose a bottle comprising a neck 2 equipped with a detachable lid, the neck 2 and the lid being capped by a service cap 1 according to one or more of the characteristics described above.

This sealed bottle with service cap 1 allows, by opening the service cap 1, to access the lid and to be able to remove it without having to remove the service cap 1. It also allows the bottle to be closed once the operculum removed. And the service cap 1 remains attached to the bottle.

A service cap 1 according to the invention can be screwed onto an existing bottle, but, by the particular geometry of some of its variants, it also allows it to be mounted by clipping onto a bottle with threads if the latter comprises a peripheral protrusion , by cooperating the holding means 7 of the service cap 1 on the neck 2 of the bottle.
