Le corps du BIC contient à la carte : un détecteur de chocs, un capteur de température et d’hygrométrie, une identification unique par RFID, un dispositif Bluetooth Low Energy et une alimentation autonome rechargeable par induction. Un applicatif sur une unité de contrôle de type Smartphone, Tablette ou équivalent permet de consulter la mémoire locale du BIC contenant les enregistrements des données réalisées par les capteurs. Le BIC vient se superposer par-dessus le bouchon et la capsule de sur-bouchage d’origines de la bouteille, le BIC s’arrime autour du col de la bouteille sans détériorer la capsule de sur-bouchage ni provoquer d’intrusions physiques dans le bouchon. Une plaque métallique en partie supérieure du BIC protège le bouchon d’éventuelles intrusions physiques externes réalisées, par exemple, à l’aide de dispositifs de perçage ou d’aiguilles. Toutefois en cas de perçage de la plaque métallique, une poche située sous la plaque renfermant de l’encre indélébile se déverse sur le goulot de la bouteille et sur un marqueur interne du BIC attestant de la survenance d’une violation de la plaque de sécurité par pénétration d’un corps étranger.
