Hybrid applicator for the application of a product, in particular a cosmetic product, on keratin fibers

The present invention relates to a hybrid applicator for the application of a cosmetic product.

“Cosmetic product” means a product as defined in Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of November 30, 2009 relating to cosmetic products.

The invention is particularly suitable for the application of a cosmetic product, such as a makeup product, for example on keratin fibers, and in particular to the application of mascara.

By mascara is meant a composition intended to be applied to the eyelashes or eyebrows. It may especially be an eyelash or eyebrow makeup composition, an eyelash makeup base called a "base coat", a composition to be applied to a mascara called a "top coat" or even a cosmetic treatment composition for eyelashes or eyebrows.

Conventionally, an applicator comprises at least one application member defining an application surface intended to come into contact with the part of the body to be treated. The applicator member has a main body or core, generally elongated, which can carry application elements extending projecting from said core.

The applicator also includes a rod integral with a gripping member and at the end of which is attached the applicator member. The gripping member is generally intended to seal off the opening of the container containing the cosmetic product to be applied.

There are different types of applicator members for eyelashes or eyebrows, for example so-called "fiber" or so-called "molded" applicators. The "fiber" application members are generally formed by two branches of a twisted metallic wire forming a core and which comprises tufts of hair retained between these branches.

The "molded" application members are obtained at least partially by molding at least one thermoplastic material, for example an elastomeric material.

In the field of make-up, it may be advantageous to be able to have an applicator which, for making up the same surface, offers two application characteristics, one for example, for the application of the product, the another for the finish, or in the case of a mascara for the eyelashes, one of the surfaces for applying the product, the other for the separation of the eyelashes after application.

To this end, patent EP-B1-1 475 013 (Kim) discloses an applicator which is provided with a first applicator member comprising a brush comprising a core integral with the rod of said applicator and bristles extending around this core over a limited angular sector, and of a second applicator member produced in the form of a comb mounted around the core of the brush and equipped with teeth extending in the angular zone left free fur.

A hybrid applicator of similar design is also described in patent application WO-A2-2010 / 129818 (HCP Packaging).

Such applicators have the major disadvantage of imposing a gesture of use requiring a certain attention and a certain address to make up the eyelashes then to separate them after application.

To overcome this drawback, it is possible to provide a hybrid applicator of the type illustrated in FIG. 6 of patent application FR-A1-2 762 494 (L’OREAL). This applicator comprises a first application member molded integral with the rod of said applicator, and a second application member consisting of a brush which is equipped with bristles and disposed axially adjacent to the first application member. The core of the brush is forcibly inserted inside a blind recess formed on a front face of the first molded applicator member.

Having these two members axially next to each other makes it easier to use the molded applicator member to apply the product to the eyelashes, and the use of the brush to separate the eyelashes. after application or make up the corner of the eye or any other surface difficult to access.

However, to obtain the assembly of the applicator head on the applicator rod, it is necessary to make the first molded application member integral with the rod and to fix the brush core in the blind recess formed on this first application body.

It is therefore understood that there is a need to facilitate the assembly of hybrid applicators comprising at least two different and adjacent application members.

The subject of the invention is an applicator for applying a product to keratin fibers, in particular to eyelashes, comprising a rod and an applicator head comprising at least one brush provided with a core and with bristles which are fixed to the core and which form a first application body.

The applicator head further comprises at least a second application member produced by molding at least one synthetic material and comprising application elements disposed axially between said first application member and the rod.

According to a general characteristic of the invention, the core of the brush is fixed on the rod. According to another general characteristic, the second application member is mounted around the core of the brush.

The mounting of the second applicator member around the core of the brush allows the applicator head to be assembled by simple axial thrust of said second member against the bristles of the brush. The applicator head thus assembled can then be easily attached to the rod of the applicator by the part of the core of the brush which extends beyond the second applicator member.

Furthermore, there is no axial overlap between the part of the bristles of the brush forming the first application member, ie the first active surface of the applicator head, and the second application member molded by considering the longitudinal axis of the soul of the brush. This makes it easier to use the applicator.

According to an advantageous design, the second applicator member is held axially along the core of the brush on one side by the bristles of said brush and on the opposite side by axial contact with the rod.

This arrangement is particularly advantageous insofar as a single attachment to the rod of the applicator, in this case the attachment of the core of the brush, makes it possible to obtain the axial blocking of the application members with respect to said rod. In an alternative design, however, it remains possible to provide a fixing of the second application member on the rod.

In one embodiment, the second application member comprises a body provided with a through opening inside which the brush core extends axially, the application elements being carried by the body and s 'extending projecting from said body. The application elements may be able to retain the product to be applied on the surface, to transport it and to restore it on the surface to be treated. Application elements may include pins, and / or spikes, and / or ridges, and / or bosses, and / or fins.

In an advantageous embodiment, the core of the brush can be removably attached to the rod. Such a fixation of the core makes it possible to be able to change, if necessary, the application member molded by another application member molded of a different design, for example according to the application characteristic of the desired product. The core of the brush can be fixed in a recess of the rod.

In a particular design of the brush core, it comprises at least two branches which are twisted at least partially one over the other, the bristles being retained between said branches.

In a particular embodiment, at least part of the bristles of the brush is folded back towards the core. Thus, the bristles can be oriented obliquely to the longitudinal axis of the brush core. According to a first design, the second application member can be shaped to fold said part of the bristles. According to a second alternative design, the applicator may further comprise a sleeve mounted around the core of the brush to fold the bristles. Such a sleeve can be interposed radially at least in part between the core of the brush and the second application member.

The brush core preferably extends into the extension of the applicator rod. According to a particular design, the brush is aligned axially with the second application member. Alternatively, it is possible to provide an arrangement in which the extension axis of the brush forms a non-zero angle with the extension axis of the second application member.

The invention also relates to a device for packaging and applying a product, in particular a makeup product, comprising a container for storing the product, and an applicator as defined above. The device may also include a member for closing the container which carries the stem of the applicator.

The invention also relates to a method for making up the eyelashes or the eyebrows by means of the applicator in which the product is applied with one of the application members in an orientation of the core which is parallel, or perpendicular, with respect to the eyelashes or eyebrows, then after application the eyelashes or eyebrows are combed with the other applicator member in an orientation of the core perpendicular, or parallel, to said eyelashes or to said eyebrows.

The present invention will be better understood on studying the detailed description of embodiments, taken by way of non-limiting examples and illustrated by the appended drawings, in which:

In Figure 1 is shown an applicator, designated by the general reference 10, which is intended to allow the application of a cosmetic product according to different application characteristics of the product.

The product to be applied may for example be a cosmetic product such as a makeup or care product, and in particular mascara intended to be applied to the eyelashes or eyebrows of a user.

The applicator 10, of longitudinal X-X ’axis, is shown in a supposedly vertical position. The applicator 10 comprises a rod 12, of longitudinal X-X ’axis, and an applicator head 14 carried by the rod. The longitudinal axis of the applicator head 14 coincides with the axis X-X ’of the rod 12.

The applicator 10 also comprises a gripping member 16 fixed on the rod 12 axially on the side opposite the applicator head

14. The gripping member 16 is for example configured to be placed on a container (not shown), containing the cosmetic product to be applied, so as to seal it. The gripping member 16 comprises a mounting skirt arranged to be fixed on the container, for example by screwing on a neck of the container. The neck of the container can support a wiper of the rod 12 and the applicator head 14. The applicator head 14 is located inside the internal volume of the container when the gripping member 16 is mounted thereon.

The rod 12 and the gripping member 16 can be made in one piece, for example by molding a plastic material, on which the applicator head 14 is then attached. Alternatively, it is possible to provide a fixing of the rod 12 on the gripping member 16 by any other suitable means, for example, by gluing, screwing, etc.

The rod 12 comprises a first upper end to which the gripping member 16 is fixed and a second opposite lower end to which the applicator head 14 is fixed. In the illustrated embodiment, the rod 12 has a circular cross section. Alternatively, the rod 12 may have in section other profiles, for example polygonal such as square, rectangular, hexagonal, or even oval, etc.

The applicator head 14 comprises a brush 18 forming a first applicator member, and a second molded applicator member 20 obtained by molding at least one thermoplastic material. The second applicator member 20 and the brush 18 are arranged upstream downstream relative to the rod 12 of the applicator.

As illustrated more clearly in FIG. 2, the brush 18 comprises a core 22 and a plurality of tufts or bundles of bristles 24 fixed on the core. The core 22 extends axially through the second applicator member 20 and is fixed directly to the rod 12. The second applicator member 20 is mounted on the core 22. In the illustrated embodiment, the core 22 is coaxial with the rod 12 and the axis XX '.

The core 22 comprises two branches (not referenced) which are twisted along the axis XX 'and between which the bristles are retained 24. The bristles 24 extend radially with respect to the core 22. The two branches of the core 22 can for example come from the same metal wire folded back on itself as a pin before being twisted. The bristles 24 extend through the branches so as to protrude from two distinct sides of the core 22. As an indication, a bristle 24 may for example be cylindrical, with a diameter between 15 and 35 hundredths of a millimeter. The bristles 24 can be full or hollow. When the branches of the core 22 are twisted, the bundles of bristles 24 are spread out between the branches so as to form a substantially homogeneous sheet in the axial and circumferential direction. The bristles 24 may all be identical to each other, or else be formed by a collection of bundles of various types of bristles, for example of different diameter, shape and section. The bristles 24 are for example made of synthetic or natural material, in particular polyamide.

The bristles 24 are arranged at the free end of the core 22, which is here the lower end in the position of the applicator which is illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2. The opposite end of the core 22, which extends axially projecting from the second applicator member 20, is fixed to the rod 12. For this purpose, a blind recess 12a is provided at the lower end of the rod 12 and inside which is housed l 'upper end of the core 22. Preferably, the core 22 is removably attached to the rod 12, here by wedging in the recess 12a of the rod. It is possible to provide another type of removable fixing, for example by screwing or by clipping. As a variant, it is also possible to provide a fixing of the rod 12 which is not removable, for example by gluing, welding, crimping hot insertion, etc.

The second molded applicator member 20 is mounted around the core 22 of the brush, being disposed axially between the bristles 24 of said brush and the rod 12. The core 22 supports the molded applicator member 20. In the exemplary embodiment illustrated, the second applicator member 20 comprises a body 26 provided with a longitudinal through opening 26a inside which extends the core 22 of the brush, and a plurality of elements of application 28 extending projecting from said body. The body 26 may have in cross section a circular, elliptical, polygonal profile, etc.

The application elements 28 are produced here in the form of pins. The applicator elements 28 may have other shapes, for example teeth, and / or spikes, and / or ridges, and / or bosses, and / or fins, etc. The application elements 28 may for example be arranged on the body 26 in the form of rows, each row may include application elements aligned or staggered along said body. The application elements 28 can be arranged according to any other type of arrangement. As an indication, the height of the application elements 28 can be between 1 and 6 mm. The application elements 28 can have an equal height or even have a variable height along the axis X-X ’. It is also possible to provide application elements which differ from one another by at least one of their shape, thickness, height, orientation, color and / or material.

The body 26 and the application elements 28 can be molded from the same synthetic material, or as a variant can be made from at least two different synthetic materials. A part of the body 26 and the application elements 28 can for example be made of a first synthetic material, and another part of the body 26 and of the application elements 28 can be made of a second synthetic material, for example more flexible or harder than the first. The application elements 28 can for example be made in one piece by molding with the body 26 or even by overmolding on said body, or even be fixed on the body by any suitable means for example by gluing, flocking, crimping, etc.

As an indication, to mold the second application member 20, any synthetic material, relatively rigid or not, may be used, for example SEBS, a silicone, latex, a reinforced sliding material, butyl, EPDM, a nitrile, a thermoplastic elastomer, a polyester, polyamide, polyethylene or vinyl elastomer, a polyolefin such as PE or PP, PVC, EVA, PS, SEBS, SIS, PET, POM , PU, SAM, PA, PMMA.

The second applicator member 20 equipped with the applicator elements 28 makes it possible to be loaded with product to be applied and to restore it to the eyelashes of the user, while the bristles 24 of the brush which form the first member of application of the applicator head can be used to separate the eyelashes after application or even make up the corner of the eye or any other surface difficult to access.

Starting from the rod 12 of the applicator, it is successively disposed on the core 22 of the brush the second application member 20 molded then the bristles 24. There is no axial overlap between the bristles 24 of the brush and the applicator member 20 molded by considering the longitudinal axis XX ′ of the core 22. The molded applicator member 20, which is mounted around the core 22, is held axially on said core by the bristles 24 and by the rod 12. The axial retention of the molded applicator member 20 is thus achieved on one side by the axial contact against the bristles 24 and on the other side by the axial contact against the rod

The embodiment illustrated in FIG. 3, on which the identical elements bear the same references, differs from the previous example in that the molded applicator member 20 further comprises a base 30 extending the axial end of the body 26 and coming to be housed in the recess 12a of said rod. The base 30 and the body 26 are in one piece.

In this exemplary embodiment, the recess 12a of the rod has a stepped shape with a part of small diameter inside which is fixed the core 22 of the brush which is extended by a part of large diameter opening onto the end of the rod and inside which is fitted the base 30 of the molded applicator member. In this exemplary embodiment, the core 22 and the molded applicator member 20 are fixed to the rod 12.

The embodiment illustrated in FIG. 4, on which the identical elements bear the same references, differs from the first example described in that the molded applicator member 20 has an increased axial dimension which is adapted to fold the bristles 24 from the brush to the core 22. The molded applicator member 20 covers the base of the bristles 24 extending from the core 22. The axial locking in position of the applicator member 20 on the side of the hairs 24 is produced here by wedging on these hairs.

Part of the bristles 24 of the brush extends in an oblique direction relative to the longitudinal axis of the core 22, and the other part of the bristles extends substantially in a direction parallel to said axis.

Analogously to the embodiments described above, the applicator head 14 of the applicator makes it possible to be able to use independently the application member 20 molded for applying the product to the eyelashes of the bristles 24 for separating the eyelashes after application. .

In addition, taking into account the orientation of the bristles 24, the applicator 10 makes it possible to have two different make-up effects, with two different gestures.

For example for the application of product to the eyelashes, the product can be deposited by the applicator member 20 molded with the core 22 of the brush oriented parallel to the eyes and to the eyelashes, then after application the eyelashes can be combed by the hairs 24 with the core 22 oriented perpendicular to the eyes and the eyelashes.

To make up the eyebrows, the bristles 24 can be used for applying the product with an orientation of the core 22 of the brush perpendicular to the eyebrows, then the molded applicator member 20 can be used to comb them with an orientation. of the core 22 of the brush parallel to the eyebrows.

Thanks to the invention, there is an applicator of simple design, economical and easy to assemble, and allowing different characteristics of application of a product with an easy-to-use gesture.
