COSMETIC PENCIL HAVING A SEALING ARRANGEMENT

The invention relates to a cosmetic pencil, and more particularly, a cosmetic pencil comprising a piston having an annular projection compressing a biasing element in a valve to push a rear end of the piston against a rear end of the valve in a closed state, so as to maintain a good seal, vis-à-vis the air, of the cosmetic liquid contained in a pencil tube.

There are a wide variety of commercially available cosmetic pencils. For example, a conventional cosmetic pencil developed by the present applicant is shown in Figures 5 and 6 and comprises a hollow valve 100 comprising an axial space 101, a shoulder 102 on an internal surface, and two opposite outlet orifices 103 at one end back ; a piston 104 comprising, on an external surface, a latching part 107 at a front end, an annular flange 105 adjacent to the latching part 107, a rear tubular element 106 spaced from the flange 105, and an annular projection 120 spaced from the flange 105 and disposed on the tubular member 106, the piston 104 further comprising an annular protrusion 1041 on an internal surface and adjacent to the flange 105; a compression spring 113 placed around the tubular element 106 and having a front end in abutment against the projection 120 and a rear end in abutment against a bottom of the space 101; a hollow conical element 108 having an enlarged rear end 109 gripping the latching part 107 and pressing against the flange 105; and an applicator 111 having a tapered front end passing through both the piston 104 and the conical member 108 to be attached thereto, the applicator 111 comprising an annular groove 112 adjacent to a rear end, the annular groove 112 being engaged in a complementary manner with the protrusion 1041 to help fix the applicator 111 and the piston 104.

In a closed state of the cosmetic pencil, a cap is fixed by thread to a front end externally threaded of a pencil tube, the projection 120 compresses the compression spring 113 to push the rear end of the tubular element 106 against a rear end of the valve. Thus, the cosmetic liquid stored in the pencil tube is prevented from leaving the applicator 111 via the outlet orifices 103.

However, the sealing arrangement of the conventional cosmetic pencil is not reliable and thus the applicator can come into contact with air and oxidize and the cosmetic liquid can degrade.

Thus, there is still a need for improvement.

Is proposed according to the present invention a cosmetic pencil characterized in that it comprises: a hollow cap comprising a rear opening and an annular shoulder on an internal surface; a hollow piston comprising, on an external surface, a front annular groove, an annular flange adjacent to the annular groove and configured to bear against the annular shoulder, a rear tubular element, and an annular projection spaced from the annular flange and disposed on the tubular member; a hollow conical element having an enlarged rear end bearing against the annular flange; an applicator passing through both the hollow plunger and the hollow conical member to be attached thereto; a biasing element placed around the tubular element and having a front end in abutment against the annular projection; a hollow valve placed both around the annular projection and the biasing member, the hollow valve comprising an internal shoulder bearing against a rear end of the biasing member, and a plurality of adjacent rear outlet ports at a rear end of the applicator in the hollow piston; a hollow element disposed in the hollow cap and having a front end engaged with a blind end of the hollow cap, the hollow element comprising a flexible rear annular recess pressing both against a tapered front end of the hollow conical element and a inner surface of the hollow cap; a sealing ring tightly disposed between a front end of the hollow piston and an inner surface of the hollow conical member; and a pencil tube configured to be removably attached to the hollow cap; in which, in a closed state of the cosmetic pencil, the annular projection compresses the biasing element to push a rear end of the hollow piston against a rear end of the hollow valve.

Preferably, the hollow cap further comprises internal threads in front of the rear opening.

Preferably, the pencil tube further comprises an externally threaded front end capable of being fixed to the internal threads.

Preferably, the cosmetic pencil further comprises a plurality of membranes in the outlet orifices, respectively, the membranes being allowed to bend only inward.

Preferably, the applicator has a tapered front end.

Preferably, the pencil tube is hollow to form a space for storing cosmetic liquid.

The invention has the following advantages and benefits in comparison with the prior art. The applicator is prevented from coming into contact with air and fluid communication through the outlet ports is impossible in the closed state. Air cannot enter the pencil tube to contact the cosmetic liquid in the closed state. The sealing arrangement is reliable.

The objectives, characteristics and advantages above, as well as others, of the invention will appear on reading the following detailed description, taken in conjunction with the attached drawings.

Referring to Figures 1 to 4, it can be seen that a cosmetic pencil according to the present invention comprises the following components as described in detail below.

A hollow cap 10 comprises a rear opening il, an annular shoulder 13 on an internal surface, and internal threads 12 between the opening il and the annular shoulder 13. A hollow piston 30 comprises, on an external surface, an annular groove front 33, an annular flange 31 adjacent to the annular groove 33 and pushing against the shoulder 13, a rear tubular element 34 spaced from the annular flange 31, and an annular projection 32 spaced from the annular flange 31 and disposed on the element tubular 34. A hollow conical member 40 has an enlarged rear end bearing against the annular flange 31. An applicator 50 having a tapered front end passes through both the hollow piston 30 and the hollow conical member 40 to be fixed to these. A biasing element 60 (such as a compression spring) is placed around the tubular element 34 and has a front end bearing against the annular projection 32. A hollow valve 70 is placed at the same time around the annular projection 32 and of the biasing element 60 and comprises a plurality of rear outlet orifices 71, a plurality of membranes 73 in the outlet orifices 71, respectively, the membranes 73 being allowed to bend only inwards, and an internal shoulder 72 bearing against a rear end of the biasing element 60. Namely, the biasing element 60 is constrained between the shoulder 72 and the annular projection 32. The outlet orifices 71 are adjacent to one end rear of the applicator 50 in the hollow piston 30. A hollow element 80 is disposed in the cap 10 and has a front end engaged in a blind end of the cap 10. The hollow element 80 comprises a flexible rear annular recess 81 bearing both against a tapered front end of the hollow conical element 40 and an internal surface of the cap 10 for fixing purposes. A sealing ring 90 is tightly disposed between the front end of the hollow piston 30 and an internal surface of the hollow conical element 40. A pencil tube 20 includes an internal space 22 for storing a cosmetic liquid, and a externally threaded front end 21 able to be fixed to the internal threads 12 so that a complete cosmetic pencil is assembled.

In a closed state of the cosmetic pencil, as can be seen in Figure 4, the annular projection 32 compresses the biasing element 60 to push the rear end of the hollow piston 30 at the same time against a rear end of the hollow valve 70 and the membranes 73. Thus, the cosmetic liquid stored in the space 22 is prevented from leaving the applicator 50 via the outlet orifices 71.

It is envisaged according to the present invention that any one of other pencil tubes 20 can be mounted on the hollow valve 70, provided that it is formed in a complementary manner to the hollow valve 70.

The operation of the present invention will be described in detail below.

A user can turn the cap 10 to remove it from the pencil tube 20. Thus, the compressed biasing member 60 extends to push the hollow piston 30 forward and, in return, an annular gap is formed between the the rear end of the hollow piston 30 and the rear end of the hollow valve 70 and the membranes 73 are curved inward. The cosmetic liquid under pressure in the space 22 flows through the applicator 50 for application via the outlet orifices 71 and the gap, as can be seen in Figure 3.

It is understood that the above embodiment of the present invention has been given by way of non-limiting indication and that modifications may be made thereto without departing from the scope of the present invention.

Claims (6)

1 - Cosmetic pencil, characterized in that it comprises: 5 - a hollow cap (10) comprising a rear opening (11) and an annular shoulder (13) on an internal surface; a hollow piston (30) comprising, on an external surface, a front annular groove (33), a flange Annular (31) adjacent to the annular groove (33) and configured to bear against the annular shoulder (13), a rear tubular element (34), and a annular projection (32) spaced from the flange annular (31) and arranged on 1 tubular element (34); 15 - one conical element hollow (40) having a end rear enlarged in support against flange annular (34); an applicator (50) passing both through the hollow piston (30) and the hollow conical element (40) to 20 be attached to them; a biasing element (60) placed around the tubular element (34) and having a front end in abutment against the annular projection (32); a hollow valve (70) placed both around the annular projection (32) and the biasing element (60), the hollow valve (70) comprising an internal shoulder (72) bearing against a rear end of the biasing member (60), and a plurality of rear outlet ports (71) adjacent to a Rear end of the applicator (50) in the hollow piston (30); a hollow element (80) disposed in the hollow cap (10) and having a front end engaged with a blind end of the cap (10), the hollow element (80) comprising a flexible rear annular recess (81) bearing on the folded against a tapered front end of the hollow conical member (40) and an inner surface of the hollow cap (10); a sealing ring (90) tightly disposed between a front end of the hollow piston (30) and an inner surface of the hollow conical member (40); and a pencil tube (20) configured to be removably attached to the hollow cap (10), in which, in the closed state of the cosmetic pencil, the annular projection (32) compresses the biasing member (60) to push a rear end of the hollow piston (30) against a rear end of the hollow valve (70). 2 - cosmetic pencil according to claim 1, characterized in that the hollow cap (10) further comprises internal threads (12) in front of the rear opening (11). 3 - cosmetic pencil according to claim 2, characterized in that the pencil tube (20) further comprises a front end externally threaded (21) adapted to be fixed to the internal threads (12). 4 - Cosmetic pencil according to claim 1, characterized in that it further comprises a plurality of membranes (73) in the outlet orifices (71), respectively, the membranes (73) being allowed to bend only towards the inside. 5 - Cosmetic pencil according to claim 1, characterized in that one applicator (50) has a tapered front end. 6 - Cosmetic pencil according to claim 1, characterized in that the pencil tube (20) is ίο hollow to form a space (22) for storing cosmetic liquid. 1/6
