Abstract
Manual propulsion system for boats and canoes, by means of full rotation oars. The invention is a manual propulsion system for boats and canoes, by means of oars whose movement forms complete rotations perpendicular to the body of water. The concept is a compromise in its use between paddles and oars. The system optimizes the physical effort provided by the user and provides a better performance of the dynamics of the boat compared to the use of conventional paddles. The two oars (paddles) stir the water at the same time, or separately to maneuver and in the manner of conventional paddles in a 360 degree rotation cycle because their wide and flat conformation handle is associated perpendicularly and respectively each to a horizontal axis held on the edge of the boat. Each train is operated by means of a crank consisting of an arm of a shape comparable to that of the oars arms; it is located on the inner edge of the boat with a handle to handle it. Each is given to one of the previously described axes at its opposite end from the one where the ream arm is located. The system according to the invention is designed to equip including recreational craft and sports.
Description
The present invention is a manual propulsion system for boats and canoes by means of oars whose movement forms complete rotations perpendicular to the body of water. The concept is a compromise in its use between paddles and oars; the action of the rower to operate the device resembles that performed for the handling of oars, although in this case the oars concerned are of the "paddle" type (11). Two modes of use are possible, each corresponding to a specific arrangement of the trains, commented at the end of page 1 and beginning of page 2. The system optimizes the physical effort provided by the user and provides a better performance of 10 the dynamics of the boat, compared to the use of conventional paddles. The two oars (paddles) "attack" the water at the same time to move the boat in a straight line, and are operated separately to maneuver. They stir the water in the manner of conventional paddles in a 360 degree rotation cycle, since their respective handle is associated perpendicular to a horizontal axis (1) (at its end) which it is integral with and driven by it. , each axis being held on one of the edges of the boat, an axis to port, a second to starboard. The handles of the paddles are flat and wide conformation arms (2); paddles with standard sleeves may be associated with these arms to form a functional assembly by being immobilized thereon. Each train is operated by means of a crank (3) also consisting of an arm about thirty centimeters long and of a shape comparable to that of the rowing arms, it is located on the inner edge of the boat with a handle (4) for handling it. It is given to the axis designated in (1) at its opposite end from the one where the ream arm is located. When the handle is at its highest point of rotation, it is about the shoulder height of the rower, and when it is at its lowest level it is at the height of its seat or a little above it. The ends of the shafts are reinforced with base-shaped end pieces, serving as enlarged contact areas (5) for fixing the rowing arms and the cranks. The pins are housed in cylindrical tubes of adequate diameter (6) in relation to theirs, which are held and immobilized on the edges of the boat by fastening elements of the spike or U-flange type (7). The supports (10) on which the tubes are supported have "grooves" serving as locations to be wedged in. The rowing arm with respect to the crank is positioned differently depending on whether the rower is directed towards the direction of movement of the boat or turned in the opposite direction of displacement as in rowing practice. 3032684 2- In the first proposal the cranks are directed downwards (handles) downwards when the oars are in contact with the water (Fig.2); considering a boat seen from its port side (bow to the left) the oars turn counterclockwise, and the rower pulls the cranks from down to him during the phase where the oars are in contact with the water, so also directed down. In the second proposal the rowing arms (rotating in the same direction) and the cranks are aligned, in the extension visually with respect to each other (Fig.3), but in the opposite direction to each other; that is to say, when the oars enter the water the cranks are directed in the opposite direction up (handle up).
In adaptable kit the device is attached to a frame that serves as a support which is stabilized by screwing on the boat, or by means of cords attached to cleats or other elements taken on the boat. The frame consists of two transverse tubes (8) of square section, parallel to each other, resting on the edges of the boat at the front and rear; on the other hand, on each side (port-starboard), two parallel tubes (9) arranged perpendicularly to the previous ones designated in (8). By this means, the position, in spacing between the two sets of cranks, axles and oars, between port and starboard, is adjusted over an amplitude of a few centimeters. The system according to the invention is designed to equip including recreational craft and sports.
