En effet, cette grosse molécule polysaccharidique ne passe pas la barrière intestinale avec efficacité. De plus, compte tenu de sa nature biochimique, elle est rapidement dégradée. Pour contourner ce problème, une technique esthétique très utilisée consiste à repulper directement les rides ou certaines zones cutanées en les remplissant avec des polymères d'acide hyaluronique au moyen d'une seringue (le terme de « fillers » est employé).
