Description
The present invention relates to a ventilation box with smoke extraction members. In the field of mechanical ventilation, it uses ventilation boxes comprising a mechanical extraction turret with at least one fan and a curb venting the air extracted by the turret, the curb being capped by the air extraction turret. For safety reasons, the ventilation box must be equipped with means ensuring that, in the event of non-operation of the turret or the extraction of hot fumes, air or fumes may escape through a path having a section of at least 20 dm2. This condition is generally fulfilled with a pivoting mounting of the extraction turret on the curb. However, the weight of the turret exposes the casing at the risk of a blockage of the pivot mechanism after overheating of the latter. The object of the invention is to provide a solution that can overcome this disadvantage. The object of the invention is achieved with a ventilation box with smoke extraction members, comprising a curb and an air extraction turret capping the curb, the smoke extraction members comprising at least one register arranged upstream the air extraction turret and the controlled means for opening the damper. According to the embodiment chosen, the box may also have at least one of the following additional features, considered alone or in combination: the curb has a substantially parallelepipedal shape and the box comprises at least two registers arranged on two opposite sides of the curb; - The box comprises a substantially parallelepiped shaped curb riser, mounted between the curb and the air extraction turret, and at least two registers disposed on two opposite faces of the curb riser; - The registers are pivotally mounted between a closed position and an open position transverse to the closed position; - The registers are pivotally mounted about horizontal axes; the registers are pivotally mounted around vertical axes; the registers are connected to a servomotor; each of the registers is connected to an individual servomotor. Other features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following description of an embodiment of the ventilation box of the invention. The description is made with reference to the drawings of which: - Figure 1 shows an entire ventilation box according to the invention and - Figure 2 shows the part of the box with registers. [0009] Figure 1 shows an entire ventilation box according to one embodiment of the invention. The box comprises, in the order of mounting from the bottom to the top, a curb 1, a curb extender 2 and an air extraction turret 4 with at least one fan. FIG. 2 shows by extract only the curb upstand 2. [0011] The curb 1 is a metal frame of parallelepipedal general shape comprising four lateral faces 11 to 14 which delimit the "free air" end of a air extraction duct of a mechanical ventilation system. The curb 1 is shaped to be mounted on a roof of a house or a building. According to the example shown in the drawings, the curb 1 is capped with the curb upstand 2 which, too, is a metal frame of generally parallelepipedal shape having four lateral faces 21 to 24. Each of the two opposite side faces 21 and 23 is provided with two registers 3 formed by valves 31 and frames 32 as well as horizontal pivot axes 33 of the valves 31. [0013] According to an alternative embodiment not shown, the curb 1 and the curb extension 2 form a single body. In this case, the registers 3 are arranged in the side walls 11 and 13 of the curb 1. The registers 3 constitute closable lateral openings of the curb upstand 2 and thus of the ventilation box. These side openings are closed when the ventilation box is operating normally, ie when operating in ventilation mode (also called "comfort mode") or when operating in smoke extraction mode and the extraction turret works normally. The valves 31 of the registers 3 are then in a substantially vertical position. By cons, when the extraction turret 4 does not work properly, for example when the fan fails, the registers 3 are activated, that is to say the lateral openings they form are open and the valves 31 are then in substantially horizontal position. The dimensions of the registers 3 are determined so that, when in the open position, the passage section for the extracted air is at least 20 dm2. For example, for a curb extension with a width of about 700 mm, the height of each of the two openings formed in the side faces 21, 23 is about 300 mm. The pivoting of the valves 31 of the registers 3 is obtained with the aid of one or more servo motors not shown constituting controlled means for opening the registers 3. According to a first arrangement, the ventilation box is equipped of a single servo-motor with a toothed wheel driving two chains, one of which is connected to the registers 3 of the lateral face 21 and the other of which is connected to the registers 3 of the lateral face 23. [0018] According to a second possible arrangement, the registers 3 of each of the two lateral faces 21, 23 are driven by a dedicated servo-motor, which makes a total of two servomotors for all the registers 3 of the ventilation box shown. And according to a third possible arrangement, each of the registers 3 is driven by an individual servo motor, which makes a total of four servo motors for the ventilation box shown. According to yet another embodiment not shown, the registers 3 are pivotally mounted about vertical pivot axes. In this case, and for the given example of dimensions, each of the lateral faces 21, 23 of the curb upstand 2 will be equipped with four registers. Whatever the arrangement of the registers 3 and their drive, the or each of the servo-motors is connected to an electrical box for receiving a command from a fire plant to switch to smoke extraction mode. [0022] More precisely, the fire station receives a signal, for example from a smoke sensor or a manual release, which is equivalent to a request to switch to smoke extraction mode. In this case, the fire station orders the ventilation turret to operate. A device comprising a pressure sensor, for example a depressostat, located inside the curb adjuster 2 verifies the presence of a depression and thus the proper operation of the ventilation turret. In case of failure of the ventilation turret, the fire station receives a signal indicating this fault and gives the order, via the electrical box, to the servo motor (s) to open the registers 3 so to allow a natural evacuation of the fumes. The ventilation box according to the present invention has the advantage of a simpler and more reliable design than the solutions using tilting mechanisms of the extraction turret, since the design according to the invention is independent of the weight of the turret. In addition, when the valves 31 are arranged symmetrically with respect to their pivot axis 33, as shown in the accompanying drawings, low power servomotors and small space are sufficient to drive the valves. Finally, when the registers are arranged on two opposite lateral faces of the curb 1 or the curb upstand 2, natural smoke extraction is ensured even in case of wind: no back pressure.
