L'assise est généralement rapportée sur un cadre lui-même supporté par les pieds, cette assise étant fixée sur le cadre de façon non mobile. On constate que les utilisateurs de tels sièges ont des tailles différentes et actuellement les sièges, notamment en collectivité sont tous identiques. En effet, quelle que soit la taille de la personne ou sa morphologie, les sièges sont identiques. Il a donc été étudié des sièges qui ont une hauteur d'assise moyenne, ce qui correspond généralement à une majorité de personnes mais pas à celles qui sont un peu en dessus de la moyenne retenue ou un peu en dessous de cette moyenne. On constate donc que les personnes qui sont de plus petite taille que la moyenne ont les pieds qui ne reposent pas au sol lorsqu'elles sont assises. La solution bien sûr consiste à s'avancer sur l'assise pour que les pieds reposent au sol. Deux inconvénients à cette solution : - Le dossier n'a plus aucun rôle, - L'utilisateur n'a qu'une petite longueur de cuisse reposant sur l'assise, ce qui est peu confortable d'une part et peut couper ou du moins limiter la circulation du sang dans lesdites cuisses. Les cuisses ne sont pas horizontales du fait d'une longueur de pied/tibia/genou inférieure à la hauteur d'assise. Les cuisses sont inclinées vers le bas. Ces phénomènes sont généralement aggravés par un état physique dégradé de la personne donc ces phénomènes sont plus sensibles pour des personnes âgées. Quant aux personnes de grande taille, elles ont beau se caler au fond du siège, elles ont les pieds qui reposent au sol cette fois, mais les cuisses se trouvent soulevées de l'assise, inclinées vers le haut, conduisant à des sensations d'inconfort là aussi. Le poids repose sur le sacrum et crée là aussi des points de compression, sans compter les éventuelles cyphose et lordose déviante à terme du fait de la faiblesse de la colonne liée à l'âge.
