According to the invention, such a device is formed at least partially of a plurality of fragments of macroalgae agglomerated with each other.
Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION The field of the invention is that of poultry farming.
More specifically, the invention relates to a device for shortening the claws of a gallinaceous, including a laying hen. 2. State of the art In the countries of the European Community, since 1 January 2012, Directive 1999/74 / EC requires laying cages for laying hens for consumption eggs, in order to guarantee a minimum level of well-being. these farm animals. A provision of this directive provides that the cages must be equipped with a nest, a litter of a perch and a device for shortening the claws.
In a laying hen farm, it is indeed important to keep the claws of the short hens: if the claws of hens are too long, they can injure or mutilate each other. The risk of injury or mutilation is all the more important as hens are confined in large numbers in the reduced space of a cage.
It has been found that the lack of space induces hierarchical conflicts, which result in an aggressive behavior of some chickens towards their congeners. To allow the hens to shorten the claws, it has been proposed to have scrapers or bench-top on the floor or on a wall of the cage. Document US-A1-2013 / 0014707 discloses, for example, scrapers consisting of rigid plates or fabrics covered with an abrasive material, such as, for example, sand. A disadvantage of this known scraper technique having an abrasive surface is that this surface wears quickly.
Another disadvantage of this known technique is that the abrasive particles are most often stuck on their support. The hens, picking the particles that have detached from the support, then also ingest glue, which is not desirable for the health of these animals and for that of the consumer, because the glue compounds are found in eggs laid by hens. It is also known from WO-A2-2005086975 or from EP-A2-1308088 to use perforated and / or rough metal plates or metal grids intended to allow the hens to file their claws. A disadvantage of this known technique results from the fact that the openings in the plate or the metal grid are quickly closed by the dung hens, which makes them at least partially inefficient. This technique also has the disadvantage that pierced plates or grids are difficult to clean. In order to overcome these disadvantages, and in particular to facilitate cleaning, it has been thought to manufacture plastic scrapers. A disadvantage of this plastic scraper technique is that the hens pull out plastic scraps when scraping the scraper with their paws or pecking the scraper. Chickens then ingest pieces of plastic, which is unsatisfactory in terms of health and quality. OBJECTIVES OF THE INVENTION The object of the invention is therefore in particular to overcome the disadvantages of the state of the art cited above. More specifically, the invention aims to provide a device to shorten the gallinaceous claws that is without risk to the health of the gallinaceous and / or the end consumer if ingested by gallinaceous, and in particular that contains no product synthetic chemical such as plastic or glue.
An object of the invention is also to provide a device for shortening the gallinaceous claws which is resistant to droppings. Another object of the invention is to provide such a technique which is simple to implement. Yet another object of the invention is to provide such a technique which is of reduced cost. 4. Description of the Invention These and other objectives which will appear later are achieved by means of a device for shortening the claws of a gallinaceous. In the context of the invention, such a device may also serve to shorten the gallinaceous beak. According to the invention, such a device for shortening the claws of a gallinaceous is formed at least partially of a plurality of fragments of macroalgae agglomerated with each other. Thus, in an unprecedented manner, the invention proposes to manufacture wholly or partly a device for shortening gallinaceous claws from fragments of macroalgae. The implementation of macroalgae makes it possible to obtain an inexpensive gallinaceous claw shortening device, biodegradable, and which can be pecked without risk by gallinaceans. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, said macroalgae are selected from the brown macroalgae, or Phaeophyceae, of the order of the laminariales or the order of the fucales.
According to a particular aspect of the invention, said macroalgae comprise macroalgae of the genus Ascophyllum nodosum. In variants of the invention, it may be provided to use macro-red algae or green macroalgae or a mixture of brown macroalgae and / or red and / or green.
In a particular embodiment of the invention, said plurality of macroalgae fragments results from a grinding of said macroalgae.
The macroalgae can in particular be ground in a knife mill, in a screw mill, in a hammer mill, in a grid mill, in a ball mill or in a mill. In a variant of this particular embodiment of the invention, it may also be envisaged that the macroalgae fragments are obtained by cutting the macroalgae. Advantageously, said macroalgae are macroalgae treated with a weak acid or an acid diluted in water, by immersing said macroalgae in a bath of said weak acid or diluted in water and / or by spraying said weak acid or diluted in water on said macroalgae. The inventors have indeed found that the treatment of macroalgae with an acid improves the adhesion between the fragments of algae and makes the agglomerate of macroalgae fragments more resistant to deformation efforts. These macroalgae treated with a weak acid or diluted in water may advantageously be a waste of the alginate extraction industry. According to a particular aspect of the invention, a gallinaceous claw shortening device as described above is in the form of a plate 1 to 5 centimeters thick. This gives a device that can be placed on the bottom of the cage and does not break under the weight of gallinaceous. It should be noted that in the context of the invention, the plate may be of any suitable size and may have any contour of appropriate shape, allowing in particular its establishment in a breeding cage. Advantageously, such a device for shortening the claws of a gallinaceous has a plurality of asperities on its surface. This makes it easier to grip the claws on the device.
According to a particular embodiment of the invention, said fragments of macroalgae agglomerated with each other are fragments of thermo-compressed macroalgae. It may especially be fragments of algae thermo-compressed at a temperature between 50 and 180 ° C, preferably between 60 and 160 ° C, and at a pressure between 400 and 4000 bar for 50 to 200 seconds. Advantageously, said macroalgae fragments have a residual moisture content, expressed as a water mass relative to the total mass of said macroalgae fragments, of less than or equal to 26%. In a particular embodiment of the invention, a device for shortening gallinaceous claws such as those described above comprises albumin mixed with said macroalgae fragments. 5. List of Figures Other features and advantages of the invention will appear more clearly on reading the following description of an embodiment of the invention, given as a simple illustrative and non-limiting example, and drawing. annexed which illustrates an exemplary embodiment of a device for shortening the claws of a gallinaceous according to the invention. 6. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION In the sole FIGURE, a plate 10 according to the invention has been shown, allowing laying hens 11 enclosed in a cage 14 to shorten their claws by scraping this plate. This plate 10, with a thickness of 4 centimeters, is of rectangular format. The dimensions of its upper face 12 are substantially equal to those of a sheet of A5 format. It has on its upper surface 12 protruding pins 13, which facilitate the grip of the claws on the plate. The plate 10 is formed of fragments of brown algae of the genus Ascophyllum nodosum agglomerated with each other. It was obtained by thermocompression for 180 seconds, at a temperature of 110 ° C. and a pressure of 2500 bars, of a powder consisting of particles with a diameter of 1 ± 0.5 millimeters. This powder is obtained by drying for 6 hours in a drying tunnel at a temperature of 50 ° C. of a solid bromate of ascophyllum nodosum treated with acetic acid mixed with albumin. In this particular embodiment of the invention, the powder used to form the plate 10 has a residual moisture content of 12%. It should be noted that acetic acid-treated ascophyllum nodosum ground material advantageously comes from an industrial site for the extraction of alginates, of which it constitutes a waste product.
