Description
The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing Sn-containing glasses. In principle, it is generally known to manufacture glasses which are used to a large extent in industry with regard to their composition and intended use. In recent decades, particular attention has been given in this context to the manufacture of glass-ceramic products, these materials constituting a link between glasses and ceramics. In addition to the manufacture and shaping of molten glass, at least partial crystallization is achieved in the case of glass-ceramics, through controlled nucleation in the molten glass, with a suitable heat treatment. For this purpose, special nucleating agents are used which include, among others, precious metals and oxides, as well as phosphates. With lithium aluminosilicate (LAS) glass ceramics, titanium dioxide (TiO2) and zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) are preferably used as nucleating agents. In the manufacture of LAS type glass ceramics, technical raw materials are also preferably used which have the effect that contamination of LAS glass-ceramics with ferric oxide (Fe2O3) is inevitable, for economic reasons. Typical contents of Fe2O3 are at least 150 ppm and frequently more than 200 ppm. With these Fe 2 O 3 contents, an inevitable interaction of ferric oxide with titanium oxide, added for nucleation, occurs in the LAS product. This results in a distinct brown hue visible. Therefore, if it is desired to suppress this brown hue with the same Fe contents (and associated costs of raw materials), it is necessary to reduce completely or partially the Ti content in the glass. Equimolar amounts of SnO2 are ideally suited to replace TiO 2 as a nucleating agent, since SnO 2 also acts as a nucleating agent, without causing an interaction with iron, which manifests itself as a hue. Therefore, molten glass, to which stannic oxide (SnO 2) is added as a nucleating agent, can give glass or a vitroceramic product having a much less inherent color. The SnO2 system is therefore of particular importance for glass ceramics when high transparency is required. Furthermore, SnO2 is also used as a refining agent in the manufacture of glasses, that is to say for removing bubbles from the finished molten glass. Thus, concentrations from 0.1 mol percent for SnO 2 are normally used as the fining agent. When SnO2 is used as a nucleating agent, the concentrations are generally higher, ie at least 0.5 mole percent, and above 0.7 mole percent, than when performing the operation. ripening alone. With glasses containing tin (Sn), there may be difficulties in the form of an excessive upper devitrification limit (UDL), especially in contact with Pt-based materials, in the event of exceeding the concentrations of the order of 0.2 molar percent. Since tin can be dissolved in the glass, simultaneously in two different redox states, as tin oxide (SnO) and stannic oxide (SnO2), the tendency to crystallize tin-containing glasses (Sn) depends, in addition to the overall content and temperature, the redox state of the glass.
The critical temperature ranges result from the contact temperatures of the glass with the forming materials, and these are normally adjusted in such a way that the glass viscosity ranges necessary for the shaping process are maintained (glass transition temperature = GOES). The condition for retaining the resulting forming process window lies in the fact that the temperature difference between the upper devitrification temperature and the glass transition temperature is less than zero: UDL - VA <0.
A process for producing glasses in production systems containing platinum or molybdenum is known from US 5,785,726 and WO 98/018731. According to these documents, the partial pressure of hydrogen is controlled outside the production vessel, with respect to the hydrogen partial pressure, respectively in the glass or in the production vessel. By doing so, the number of bubbles on the surface can respectively be adjusted or decreased. This is achieved by previously setting a hydrogen partial pressure so high outside the vessel that the hydrogen can not separate from the glass through the walls of the platinum production vessel. Oxygen enrichment in the boundary area between glass and platinum is thus avoided. By avoiding oxygen enrichment at the boundary surface, bubble formation is prevented as much as possible. Such an adjustment of the partial hydrogen vapor pressure may be effective to the extent that it wholly or partly replaces the normal protective effect of the refining agent, particularly arsenic oxide ( As2O3). However, this gas application is not sufficiently studied with respect to avoiding crystallizations.
Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a shaping process for the manufacture of glass, by providing an acceptable viscosity range with molten glasses with a high tin content, in particular alumino-silicate type glass ceramics. lithium. This object is achieved by a method of manufacturing tin-containing glasses, comprising the steps of: producing molten glass, shaping molten glass, cooling and stress relieving, and subsequent processing, with a shaping process to produce a reducing condition, locally adjusting the oxygen partial pressure (PO2) prevailing on a boundary surface of the glass, on a body containing the glass, guiding the glass or inserted in the glass, and / or in the media used, so to avoid the exsolution of constituents containing tin which separate from the glass. Consequently, it is a process for producing glasses or glass-ceramics, in particular tin-containing glasses and / or lithium alumino-silicate glass-ceramic (LAS) glass-ceramics, which The method comprises the steps of producing molten glass, forming molten glass, cooling and stress relieving, as well as subsequent processing (including ceramization). The method is characterized in that with a shaping process to produce a reducing condition, locally adjusting the oxygen partial pressure (pO2) prevailing on a boundary surface of the glass, on a body containing the glass, guiding the glass or inserted in the glass, and / or in the media used, so as to avoid the exsolution of tin-containing constituents which separate from the glass. According to the invention, the redox state can thus be adjusted in a molten glass.
According to the invention, the higher devitrification temperature can be adjusted selectively, and in particular decreased, by adjusting previously reducing conditions. A glass sufficiently free of exsolution, or a glass ceramic type LAS, can be produced. According to the invention, the difference in critical temperature between the higher devitrification temperature and the glass transition temperature (UDL-VA) is considered not only as material-specific, depending on the composition, but also as process-specific, according to the redox condition.
According to the invention, the solubility of tin is adjusted by creating reducing conditions such as a tin conglomeration or an exsolution of constituents comprising tin which separate from the glass, in particular stannic oxide, or metallic tin, are reduced and in particular avoided as far as possible, or removed in relation to normal conditions. Thanks to the invention, it is advantageously possible to perform the shaping, in particular the drawing and rolling, of lithium alumino-silicate type glass ceramics, with platinum, avoiding undesirable crystallization phenomena in the glasses and coatings. ceramic. According to the invention, the local partial pressure of oxygen must be considered as being an oxygen partial pressure prevailing at least around devices such as platinum contacts or nozzles in contact with the glass and / or glass-ceramics or their primary products are also in the form of a melt, in the case of a glass and / or vitroceramic manufacturing process, as well as subsequent processing. According to an embodiment of the process according to the invention, the oxygen partial pressure is adjusted in such a way that the stannic oxide deposit (SnO2) and / or the tin conglomeration (Sn) are reduced. The oxygen partial pressure may preferably be adjusted such that a conglomeration of liquid metal tin (Sn) is reduced. By doing so, the process parameters, preferably the oxygen partial pressure, as a function of temperature, can also be adjusted to avoid the exsolution of liquid tin on the glass surface. According to a preferred embodiment of the process according to the invention, the oxygen partial pressure (PO 2) is adjusted so that the formation of liquid platinum-tin alloys is avoided.
If, with the process according to the invention, the nucleation and / or crystallization step is carried out after the shaping step, it is also possible to advantageously manufacture vitroceramics with a high tin content, in particular vitroceramics with reduced titanium content and iron content due to production. According to one embodiment of the process according to the invention, the local partial pressure of oxygen (pO2) at a point of contact of the glass with a precious metal is reduced by means of chemical processes to such an extent that Because of the increased solubility thus caused, a tin (Sn) deposit added to the glass or molten glass is respectively avoided. Preferably, it is obtained according to the invention the prior adjustment of the reducing conditions through the adjustment of local partial pressures of oxygen. According to one embodiment of the invention, gases containing water or hydrogen are applied to a wall of precious metal, made for example of platinum. In further developing this embodiment, it is especially proposed to apply pure water vapor. However, it is also conceivable to chemically adjust reducing conditions by providing humidified nitrogen or humidified air. The proposed gas applications are based on the permeability of platinum to hydrogen which has a reducing effect on Sn-containing glasses. Platinum is preferably used as a material for the production, melting and feeding systems and therefore allows the process according to the invention to be carried out in the usual industrial production plants, without incurring the costs of production. important technical adaptation. According to the invention, the chemical measurements are carried out in such a way that a system of a refractory, preferably porous, additive material is provided for applying a gas, for example to a glass ceramic of the LAS type. According to the invention, the application of the gas is facilitated by a source of continuous gas. According to another embodiment of the invention, the application of a cathodic protection current is carried out as an electrochemical process for adjusting the oxygen partial pressure at the point of contact of the glass with a production system or vessel. , melting or feeding, consisting of a precious metal. Thus, it is further provided, in the context of the invention, to use suitable counter-electrodes which may comprise rollers or may be arranged in the stirred bath, respectively for protective currents or their application, and for constitute sources of voltage and devices for measuring the current.
According to the invention, the monitoring of the changes obtained by the application of a reducing oxygen partial pressure, or a corresponding electrochemical priority, must be carried out by means of electrochemical potential measurements on platinum components, preferably not connected to the earth.
According to another embodiment of the process according to the invention, the partial pressure of oxygen is adjusted at least locally depending on the temperature, so that above a threshold temperature and above above a threshold pressure, a partial pressure of oxygen which increases with temperature guarantees a solubility range of tin in the molten glass such that the temperature can be varied within a range of at least 400 degrees, at a constant oxygen partial pressure. The process can then be carried out in such a way that the exsolution of the stannic oxide or the thinning of the tin is avoided, by maintaining the solubility range of the tin by pre-adjusting the partial pressure of the tin. oxygen and / or temperature. With the process according to the invention, the glass and / or glass-ceramic may have an iron content of at least 0.015 percent by weight, preferably 0.01 percent by weight of ferric oxide (Fe2O3). On the other hand, the glass and / or glass ceramic may contain less than 1.0, preferably less than 0.05 percent by weight of titanium dioxide (TiO 2). With a preferred embodiment of the process according to the invention, a glass and / or a glass-ceramic having at least 0.01 per cent by weight of ferric oxide (Fe 2 O 3) and less than 0.05 per cent is produced. by weight of titanium dioxide (TiO2). The process according to the invention for manufacturing glasses or glass-ceramics makes it possible to respond to process windows with regard to pressure and temperature, depending on the composition of the material. The process windows of a shaping according to the invention allow tin contents of 1 mol percent and above.
The invention will be described in detail below, with the aid of exemplary embodiments and with reference to the accompanying drawings. Thus, the exemplary embodiments illustrated should be considered as non-limiting of the general concept of the invention. In the drawings, FIG. 1 is a graph of the solubility of tin with respect to temperature; FIG. 2 represents a calculated solubility of tin of a lithium aluminosilicate type glass-ceramic system according to FIG. FIG. 3 is an equilibrium diagram of a LAS type melt with stannic oxide; FIG. 4 represents the molar solubility of tin as a function of the local partial pressure; FIG. 5 shows the molar solubility of tin as a function of the local electrochemical potential; FIG. 6 represents a graphical illustration of the molar solubility of different species of tin, depending on a state of FIG. 7 represents a quasi-binary Pt-Sn-O equilibrium diagram, FIG. 8 represents a dependence of the partial pressure of oxygen on the temperature for a control system. FIG. LAS type with SnO2, and FIG. 9 is a diagram corresponding to FIG. 6 for a LAS type system produced using a flotation process. Figure 1 is an illustration of the molar solubility of different species of tin in a lithium alumino-silicate (LAS) glass ceramic, which is important for understanding the invention. In this figure, the molar solubilities of the total content of tin (total Sn), tin oxide (SnO) and stannic oxide (SnO2) are plotted as a function of temperature in the range of 1100 to 1600 °. vs. The tin reduction states, corresponding to SnO and SnO2, have different solubility characteristics in LAS glasses. When the bivalent form is indefinitely soluble in a range of less than 10 mole percent, the quadrivalent form of tin, which corresponds to the SnO2 compound, has a solubility in the range of a few ppm (parts per million) to a value of maximum of one percent molar. Under the usual shaping conditions in the manufacture of glass-ceramics, the solubility of SnO 2 is less than 0.5 mole percent for the high-melting glasses according to the invention. The solubility of the whole tin with this glass depends on the state of reduction or the oxygen partial pressure pO2 prevailing in the glass. The oxygen partial pressure in the glass in turn depends on the temperature T. However, the measurement results shown for the solubility can be influenced from the outside by a contact of the glass, for example with a platinum wall (Pt ). In view of the fact that the water dissolved in the glass disintegrates when it comes into contact with a platinum wall, the state of reduction changes locally to an oxidized species. When measuring the corresponding solubility values, this implies that the measurements must be made in platinum tanks whose wall is not too thin. Indeed, crystallizations occurring on the walls would generate high exsolution temperatures, which would in turn distort the solubility values. In the case of the measurements shown, the state of reduction was defined by means of a rinsing process with pure oxygen. In addition, contact with a platinum wall was avoided, so that a correct molar solubility of tin could be measured at temperatures above T = 1300 ° C, which solubility can be expressed for the LAS glass system. by the following equation: xsn [mol%] = 0.216 + 1.143. 106. exp (-24773 / T [° C])
En utilisant l'équation de réaction suivante : This functional relationship corresponds to the "Total Sn" graph shown in Figure 1, where extrapolation was performed below 1200 ° C. Using the following reaction equation:
SnO2 = SnO + 1/2 02, SnO2 = SnO + 1/2 O2,
L'espèce bivalente Sn peut être réduite davantage pour obtenir de l'étain métallique pur, conformément à : SnO = Sn° + 1/2 02. it is possible to determine the concentrations of divalent and quadrivalent species that depend on temperature. The bivalent Sn species can be further reduced to obtain pure metal tin, according to: SnO = Sn ° + 1/2 O2.
De cette manière, les relations thermochimiques Neutral tin is not soluble in the glass and exsolves a metal phase which is deposited in the form of SN droplets on the surfaces or as a colloid in the glass. With a correct dosage, the reducing conditions thus give higher levels of SnO, as well as higher total solubilities of tin. In Fig. 2, the content of the two tin species mentioned above, as well as the total tin content, is illustrated as a function of the temperature in the range of Fig. 1, during the cooling process, considering that the resulting oxygen partial pressure PO2 (T) is reached. In contrast to Figure 1, here the actual oxygen partial pressure p02 is taken into account. The oxygen partial pressure PO2 in the glass of a melt refined at elevated temperatures decreases continuously as the temperatures drop. Therefore, taking into account this temperature dependence, this results in the characteristics of the solubility shown in Fig. 2. Since the decrease in oxygen partial pressure compared to constant pressure , on which the data of Figure 1 are based corresponds to the reducing conditions, a comparatively higher solubility is obtained. The solubilities Sn increase with greater reducing conditions, that is to say the increase with a lower partial pressure of oxygen (0.06 bar at 1 bar at 1350 ° C) compared to the pressure prevailing during the According to Figure 1. Assuming that the melting temperature and the oxygen partial pressure are independent thermochemical quantities, a zone in the exsolution-free molten glass phase diagram, as shown in FIG. be obtained with a constant total tin concentration, here for 0.7 mol% of SnO2. At low temperatures and high pressures, glass and SnO 2 are in the solid form, while at high temperatures and low oxygen partial pressures Sn exsolution in the liquid form occurs. The pressure and temperature ranges between the two solid and liquid exsolution ranges define the range of existence of a homogeneous and exsolution free LAS glass, with 0.7 mol% of tin. Excess tin exsolution as the metallic liquid phase dominates in the case of a float glass process (flotation process) which is an important shaping process for the manufacture of glass or glass ceramics. Thus, the molten glass is solidified during the passage from a hot zone to a cold zone on a tin bath. As shown in FIG. 4, slightly reducing conditions cause an increase in the solubility of tin at a constant temperature. With a PO2 oxygen partial pressure of 0.001 bar on a platinum contact, a solubility of Sn of 2 mol% would be achieved. This decrease of the oxygen partial pressure, according to the invention, which results in an increase in the solubility, can be adjusted by chemical and / or electrochemical methods, in the context of the present invention. According to the invention, however, it should be noted when doing so that tin in the form of SnO 2 acts as a nucleating agent, while the bivalent SnO forms only a part of the remaining glass phase. . Therefore, when controlling the higher devitrification temperature, it must be taken into account that a sustained displacement of the fractions between SnO2 and SnO in the total glass volume is not beneficial. Thus, the objective according to the invention is in particular only a local adjustment of the reducing conditions, for example on a Pt wall of a production, melting or feeding system or tank. The illustration of the tin concentrations as a function of the oxygen partial pressure, according to FIG. 4, can be transformed into an illustration of the tin concentration shown in FIG. 5, and, using the Nernst equation to a potential E. In doing so, it must be taken into account that all the possibilities of contact of the glass with the platinum are protected by a protection current condition, and that a local polarization takes place by applying corresponding voltages to suitably chosen anodes, for example rolls, or in stirring vessels. In case of complex geometries shaping apparatus, these protective currents have only limited effectiveness, so that the desired protective effect can be adjusted only very narrowly. Therefore, chemical pressure adjustment methods are of greater importance within the scope of the invention. For this purpose, and in accordance with the invention, hydrogen gas is applied from the rear face to a platinum-glass contact, which leads to a local reduction of the contact. Of course, the value of the oxygen partial pressure PO2 must be expressed as a process-specific value of the H2 / H2O ratio, as shown in Figure 6. In this way, the thermochemical relationships
Log (pH2O/pH2) = log K + 1/2 . log (pO2) [p en bars], avec log K = -2,971 + 12000/T [T en K] Log (pH2O / pH2) = log K + 1/2. log (pO2) [p in bars], with log K = -2.971 + 12000 / T [T in K]
ont été prises en compte. have been taken into account.
According to another embodiment of the invention, the application of the gas is carried out with humidified nitrogen or with pure water vapor, possibly by applying droplets. In view of the fact that very weak reducing conditions prevail with this embodiment of the invention, this influence of secondary reactions is advantageously reduced. With the electrochemical reduction proposed in the context of the invention, as well as with the chemical reduction of the higher devitrification temperature (UDL), it is necessary to take into account a disturbing reaction of decomposition of water on an internal wall of a platinum tank or a platinum wall. Due to the usual decomposition of water, an increase in the PO2 oxygen partial pressure can be observed here. However, this is not sufficient to form oxygen bubbles, because the glass has a temperature already too low. When using As2O3 as a refining agent in LAS type glass ceramics, whose 0.3% molar concentration is not negligible compared to more than 0.7 mol% of SnO2, arsenic is widely present as As2O3 and reacts with the tin species during a cooling process. As a result, a reduction in SnO 2 occurs, and the exsolution temperature is advantageously reduced. Overall, however, it should be possible to avoid the use of arsenic and, therefore, antimony by the process according to the invention because the effects of water decomposition as well as the upper limit of devitrification (UDL) observed on platinum in As-free fusion baths can now be reduced. With the process according to the invention, or using an apparatus provided for carrying out this process, the interaction of platinum and tin has also been taken into account. By doing so, the solid tin-platinum solution, with a cubic face-centered structure (fcc), and the liquid alloy of the two must be taken into consideration. The stability of the fcc phase depends on the temperature as well as the total tin content. This in turn is determined by the redox state or PO2 respectively. When oxygen is included in the platinum-tin balance diagram (Pt-Sn), a quasi-binary Pt-Sn-O equilibrium diagram results for a constant oxygen partial pressure, such as shown in FIG. 7. Here, the platinum-tin solid phase in the fcc structure is limited by liquefaction (alloy and melting) as well as by SnO2 exsolution (cooling and internal oxidation). Considering a specific solubility of SnO2 and O2 in a LAS type melt glass, the phase diagram shown in Fig. 8 can be derived with a process window shown at 1300 ° C, this temperature being an operating point according to the invention, on a nozzle used for the manufacture of glass. This can be achieved by applying a mild reduction gas, or by applying a direct current generating the same chemical effects, without the risk of alloy formation becoming too great. Taking into account the formation of Pt3Sn, as shown in Figure 8, the process window is further reduced accordingly, as also shown in Figure 8. With a large-scale flotation process for glass production or glass-ceramics, the glass is exposed to strongly reducing conditions, at its surfaces. Even at pO 2 pressures <10-16 bar, the dissolved SnO 2 is converted to SnO which is in turn converted to tin metal, but not completely. This tin is then released on the underside and on the upper face of the glass ribbon. In order to avoid the deposition of liquid tin on the surface of the glass, in accordance with the invention, it is necessary to respect a narrow process window of PO2 and temperature, as shown by way of example in FIG. a temperature range between 700 and 950 ° C, the invention thus provides a dominant process window in the flotation bath, which process window is limited vis-à-vis higher temperatures and liquid tin deposition and, on the lower pressure side, by SnO2. The diagram of FIG. 9 shows at the same time a gate valve (or operating window) for the use of a shutter. When implementing the invention, it must generally be taken into account that the same contents of tin in the glass must be respected. On the other hand, local process temperatures must be constant, with fluctuations as low as possible. For example, sudden cooling causes spontaneous discharge of the Sn reducer, dissolved in platinum, in the glass. This could in turn lead to violent gas formation. A possible weakening of the face centered cubic Pt phase (fcc) is also facilitated by periodic and abrupt changes.
