A local oxygen partial pressure is set during a shaping process to produce a reducing condition for the purpose of suppressing redox-sensitive crystallization reactions.
Description
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of Sn-containing glasses.
The production of glass used industrially in a variety of ways in terms of their composition and their purpose is generally well known. In recent decades, special attention has been paid to the production of glass-ceramics, ie materials that act as a link between glasses and ceramics. In addition to the production and shaping of glass melts, in the case of glass ceramics at least partial crystallization is achieved via controlled nucleation in the molten glass with a suitable thermal treatment.
Special nucleating agents, which include precious metals, oxides and phosphates, are used. In lithium alumino-silicate glass-ceramics (LAS-GK), titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) and zirconium dioxide (ZrO 2 ) are primarily used as nucleating agents in practice. In addition, for the production of LAS-GK, mainly technical raw materials are used for cost reasons, which make a contamination of the LAS-GK with iron (sesqui) oxide (Fe 2 O 3 ) unavoidable. Typical Fe 2 O 3 contents are at least 150 ppm, often also over 200 ppm. In these Fe 2 O 3 contents, however, an unavoidable interaction of the iron oxide with the titanium oxide added for nucleation occurs in the LAS-GK. The result is a clearly visible brown coloration of the LAS-GK. If one therefore wants to suppress the brown coloration at the same Fe contents (and the associated raw material costs), one must reduce the Ti content of the glass completely or partially. Ideally, equimolar amounts of SnO 2 can be used as a substitute for the nucleating TiO 2 , since this also nucleates without the iron becoming discernible as a colorant.
Glass melts treated with tin dioxide (SnO 2 ) as a nucleating agent can therefore lead to a glass or a glass ceramic with a significantly lower intrinsic color. Therefore, the SnO 2 system is of particular importance in use of the glass-ceramics which requires high transparency. In addition, SnO 2 is also used as a refining agent in the production of glasses, ie, for expelling bubbles from the finished molten glass.
As a rule, concentrations of 0.1 mol% or more are used for SnO 2 as refining agent. Concentrations when using SnO 2 as a nucleating agent are generally higher than at least 0.5 mole% and above 0.7 mole%, rather than ensuring refining function alone. For tin (Sn) -containing glasses, when concentrations in the range of 0.2 mol% are exceeded, difficulties may occur in the form of too high an upper devitrification limit (OEG), in particular on Pt materials.
Since tin in glasses can be dissolved simultaneously in two different redox states as tin oxide (SnO) and tin dioxide (SnO 2 ), the crystallization tendency of glasses containing tin (Sn) depends not only on total content and temperature but also on the redox state of the glass.
The critical temperature ranges result from the contact temperatures of the glass with the shaping materials and these are usually adjusted so that the viscosity ranges of the glass necessary for the shaping process are maintained (glass transition temperature = V A ). The consequent requirement for compliance with the forming process window is that the temperature difference between the upper devitrification temperature and the glass transition temperature be less than zero: OEG - V A <0.
It is therefore an object of the invention to enable a molding process in glassmaking while providing an acceptable range of viscosity for high tin content glass melts, particularly lithium alumino-silicate glass-ceramics.
The object is achieved with the subject of claim 1.
Accordingly, a method is provided for producing glasses or glass ceramics, in particular tin-containing glasses and / or tin-containing lithium aluminum silicate glass ceramics (LAS-GK), which comprises the steps of producing a glass melt, shaping the glass melt, a cooling and relaxing and a post-processing (including ceramization). The method is characterized in that an oxygen partial pressure prevailing at an interface of the glass, at a glass receiving, glass leading or introduced into the glass and / or prevailing in participating media is locally adjusted in a shaping process for producing a reducing condition so as to avoid precipitation of tin-containing constituents from the glass.
As a result, according to the invention, the reduction state can be set within a molten glass.
According to the invention, by specifying reducing conditions, the upper devitrification temperature can be adjusted in a targeted manner, preferably lowered. As a result, a sufficiently precipitation-free glass or a LAS glass ceramic can be produced. According to the invention, the critical temperature difference between the upper devitrification temperature and the glass transition temperature (OEG-V A ) is considered not only as material-specific via the composition but also as process-specific via the redox state.
According to the invention, tin-solubility is adjusted by providing reducing conditions such that tin accumulation or precipitation of tin-containing constituents from the glass, in particular tin dioxide or metallic tin, is reduced, preferably largely avoided, or suppressed, as far as possible under normal conditions.
The invention can advantageously be used for shaping, in particular drawing and rolling lithium-aluminosilicate glass ceramics with platinum components while avoiding undesired crystallization phenomena in glasses and glass ceramics.
According to the invention, the local oxygen partial pressure is at least one environment of objects, such as platinum contacts or drawing nozzles, which are in contact with the glass and / or the glass ceramic or also in melt form in a glass and / or glass ceramic production process and further processing operations thereon are in contact to understand ruling oxygen partial pressure.
In one embodiment of the method according to the invention, the oxygen partial pressure is adjusted such that an excretion of tin dioxd (SnO 2 ) and / or accumulation of tin (Sn) is reduced. The oxygen partial pressure may also preferably be adjusted to reduce accumulation of liquid, metallic tin (Sn). In this case, the process parameters, preferably the oxygen partial pressure as a function of the temperature, can also be set in order to avoid precipitation of liquid tin on the glass surface.
In a preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, the oxygen partial pressure is set so that formation of liquid platinum-tin alloys is prevented.
If, in the method according to the invention, the step of nucleation and / or crystallization follows the shaping step, glass ceramics with a high tin content can also be produced with advantage, especially those with reduced titanium content and with iron contents produced by the production process.
In one embodiment of the method according to the invention, the local oxygen partial pressure at a contact of the glass with a noble metal by chemical processes so far lowered that due to the consequent increase in Löschlichkeit an excretion of the glass or the molten glass added tin (Sn) is avoided.
By prescribing reducing conditions via a setting of low local oxygen partial pressures, this is preferably achieved according to the invention.
According to one embodiment of the invention, a gassing of a noble metal wall used in the manufacture of glass is carried out, for example, from platinum with hydrogen- or hydrogen-containing gases. In particular, a fumigation with pure steam is proposed in development of this embodiment. Conceivable is a setting of chemically reducing conditions but also by a supply of humidified nitrogen or humidified air.
The proposed fumigations are based on the permeability of platinum to hydrogen, which has a reducing effect on Sn-containing glasses. Because platinum is preferably used as a material for manufacturing, melting or supply systems used and therefore allows use of the method according to the invention in customary in industrial production plants without major equipment redesign effort.
According to the invention, the chemical measures are carried out by providing an adapted refractory, preferably porous, material system for the fumigation of, for example, a LAS glass ceramic. Fumigation is facilitated by a continuous gas source according to the invention.
In a further embodiment of the invention, an impressing of a cathodic protection current is carried out as an electrochemical method for adjusting the oxygen partial pressure at the contact of the glass with a production, melting or supply system or vessel formed from noble metal.
It is further provided in the context of the invention, for the protective currents or their embossing suitable counterelectrodes, which may comprise rollers or can be arranged in the stirring, to use and provide power sources and ammeters.
According to the invention, monitoring of the changes achieved by imprinting a reducing oxygen partial pressure or corresponding electrochemical influencing by electrochemical potential measurements on preferably floating platinum components is to be provided.
In a further process according to the invention, the oxygen partial pressure is adjusted at least locally as a function of the temperature such that above a threshold temperature and above a threshold pressure, an oxygen partial pressure rising with increasing temperature ensures a tin-salinity range in the glass melt such that at a constant oxygen partial pressure the temperature in a range of at least 400 degrees is changeable.
The process can then be conducted in such a way that precipitation of tin dioxide or liquefaction of tin is avoided by maintaining the tin-solubility range by specifying oxygen partial pressure and / or temperature.
In the method according to the invention, the glass and / or the glass ceramic may have an iron content of at least 0.015 percent by weight, preferably 0.01 percent by weight of iron (III) oxide (Fe 2 O 3 ). Furthermore, the glass and / or the glass ceramic may contain less than 1.0 percent by weight, preferably less than 0.05 percent by weight, of titanium dioxd (TiO 2 ). With a preferred guidance of the method according to the invention, a glass and / or a glass ceramic with at least 0.01 weight percent iron (III) oxide (Fe 2 O 3 ) and less than 0.05 weight percent titanium dioxd (TiO 2 ) is produced.
The method according to the invention for the production of glasses or glass ceramics envisages compliance with pressure and temperature depending on the material composition of predetermined process windows. The process windows of a shaping according to the invention allow tin contents of 1 mol% and more.
The invention will be explained in more detail by means of embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings. The illustrated embodiments are not to be understood as limiting the invention as a whole.

Thus, the solubility of the total tin from the state of reduction or the prevailing oxygen partial pressure dependent on the glass. The oxygen partial pressure within the glass in turn depends on the temperature T. However, the solubility results shown can be influenced from the outside by contact of the glass with, for example, a platinum (Pt) wall. As water dissolved in the glass decomposes on contact with a platinum wall, the state of reduction changes locally towards an oxidized species. When determining the corresponding solubility values, this has the consequence that the measurements should be carried out in platinum vessels which are not too thin-walled. Crystallization on the walls would lead to high precipitation temperatures, which in turn would distort the solubility values.
In the measurements shown, the reduction state was defined by a purge with pure oxygen.
In
According to the invention, however, it should be noted that the tin in the form of SnO 2 plays a role as a nucleating agent, whereas the divalent species SnO is always only part of the residual glass phase. Therefore, when setting the upper devitrification temperature, it should be noted that a continuous shift in the proportion of SnO 2 to SnO in the entire glass volume is not favorable. The specification according to the invention is therefore particularly in an exclusively local setting reducing conditions, for example, on a Pt wall of a manufacturing, melting or supply system or vessel.

Therefore, the chemical pressure adjustment methods in the context of the invention is of greater importance. For this purpose, according to the invention, a platinum glass contact is gassed on the back with hydrogen (H 2 ), whereby a local reduction of the contact is achieved. It is understood that the size of the oxygen partial pressure has to be expressed as the process-specific size of the ratio H 2 / H 2 O, which is given in

been taken into account.
In an alternative embodiment of the invention, the gassing is carried out with humidified nitrogen or with pure water vapor, for example analogously to a grafting. Since in this embodiment of the invention only very weakly reducing conditions prevail, the influence of undesirable side reactions is advantageously reduced.
Both in the proposed electrochemical and chemical lowering of the upper devitrification temperature (OEG) in the context of the invention, an interfering water decomposition reaction on an inner wall, a platinum vessel or a platinum wall is to be considered. Here is an increase in the local oxygen partial pressure due to the usual water decomposition to observe. However, this does not suffice for an oxygen bubble formation because the glass already has too low a temperature.
When using As 2 O 3 as a refining agent in LAS glass ceramics, the concentration of 0.3 mol% compared to over 0.7 mol% SnO 2 is not negligible, the arsenic is largely as As 2 O 3 and occurs during a cooling process with the tin species in reaction. In this case, a reduction of SnO 2 takes place, the precipitation temperature is advantageously lowered. Overall, however, arsenic and, in a corresponding manner, antimony should be dispensed with in a method according to the invention since now both the effects of water decomposition and the upper devitrification limit (OEG) observed on platinum can be lowered in As-free melts.
Furthermore, in the method according to the invention or use of a device designed to carry it out, the interaction of platinum and tin must be taken into account. In this case, the solid tin-platinum solution with cubic surface-centered structure (fcc) and the liquid alloy of the two should be noted. The stability of the fcc phase is temperature-dependent as well as dependent on the total content of the tin. This in turn is the redox state or the prevailing certainly.
In an implementation of the invention is generally considered that the same tin contents should be maintained in the glass. Furthermore, the local process temperatures should also be stationary and subject to as few fluctuations as possible. An abrupt cooling leads z. B. to a spontaneous release of the dissolved in platinum reducing agent Sn to the glass. This in turn could cause violent gas formation. Also, possible embrittlement of the cubic face-centered (fcc) Pt phase is promoted by periodic and abrupt changes.
