DESCRIPTION DESCRIPTION
OYSTER OPENER OPENING PLIERS Oyster opening devices are designed to penetrate either by the side (across), or (in length) by the narrow end. In the first case, after penetration, cut the muscle to separate the lid. In the second case, one can be content to penetrate in force and thus break the hinge; then, it is the consumer who, by easily penetrating with a simple table knife, can cut the muscle internally flush with the lid and the bottom of the oyster to detach it entirely. To open by the side, the penetration force is quite low, however, it is necessary to find the joint and the position of the muscle to be cut, otherwise a lot of scrap shells penetrate inside. In addition, there is danger of skidding if the tip of the knife magnifies the joint, and risk of injury. The rack-and-pinion oyster tongs provide a great power to break the hinge, without excessive effort, without any danger, without the introduction of oyster debris and with a great ease of use. The establishment and maintenance of the oyster during the penetration is particularly easy.
The trajectory of the tip is totally linear and the position of the oyster is adjustable according to the shapes of oysters. The clamp consists of a fixed handle, plastic, flat, hollowed in its entire length and largely in its width by a groove that can contain a long piece and flat making the knife, which can slide in the groove on about 8 cm of race. This flat piece has a U-shaped end, and cut in tip, end. Along its right side, are dug a dozen tooth rack-shaped. The handle has externally, out of the molding, a square shape (5 cm x 5), on which the oyster comes to bear during the penetration of the tip. The main component constituting the clamp is a movable arm articulated by a fixed axis passing through the thickness of the handle and the movable branch, very close to the flat piece rack, and each of their end. Parallel to the fixed axis, 1.5 cm from the latter, outwards, an axis passes through the mobile branch only. It operates a connecting rod housed in the groove of the handle; the latter cooperates with the teeth of the rack so that it advances one notch for each pressure received by the movable branch contained in the hand with the handle. In order to avoid that, at the end of each pressure received by the rack, the latter does not rise due to the elasticity of the oyster and mechanism assembly, a non-return ratchet rod is housed between the driving rod and the rack. This rod ratchet, articulated on the fixed axis, is put in place anti return lock at the end of each hand pressure, housing in a tooth next to the rack by the effect of its tension spring P. La driving rod I is also equipped with a tension spring Q, housed in the movable arm to make effect with respect thereto. The reopening of the clamp is produced by the effect of return spring M acting between the handle and movable arm. All springs are hairpin type.
The operation emerging from these provisions is that the knife tip spread away from the support plate, will approach the latter da value of a notch for each hand pressure. To regain the tip of the starting position, it must be possible to cancel the effects of the two springs on the drive rod and the non-return ratchet J by removing them from the rack teeth. This occurs by the effect of double support L (Figure 5-6) by the movable arm in maximum opening. On the single attached drawing board, Figures 1-2-3-4 show the clamp assembly with A in the handle made of plastic material and out of the mold, in D the support of the oyster, more E an inner stop, to limit the stroke of the rack blade B. In C 3, the movable arm forming the clamp and the pin F, stabilizing the holding in hand and counteracting the reactive effect of the thrust of the left hand (for right-handed), helping for a difficult penetration, pushing the shell towards the tip. In G, the beak at the end of the blade support knife to bring down the tip and oyster assembly.

So that the oyster can be opened, it must go down, the tip engaged in the small hollow to ask, its rounded end on the support D, usually near the handle with its oriented lid almost always looking at all plastic handle. OPERATION: 1 - Take the forceps in the right hand with 4 fingers around the handle, and the thumb hooking the movable branch, flush with the nipple F, the assembly being held flat; 2 - Fully open the movable arm in the hand 3 - Slide the knife blade to full opening, either by tilting, or by free hand action; 4 - Take the oyster between 4 fingers: middle finger, ring finger, and pinkie on one side, and thumb on the other; orient it so that the lid looks at the handle and press the small hollow of the narrow end of the oyster against the point of the knife blade spread; 20 5 - With the index finger still free, lower the oyster and knife assembly to rest on the support D 6 - Press fully until you hear a clack, then release the moving arm until you reach second bed (but no further). Press again until you hear a new clack. In general, the oyster is opened in the meantime; 7 - To remove the oyster, let the movable branch open fully, which will give the total freedom of the knife blade to find the large opening or, second solution, slide outward the part supported by the Oyster ; In some cases, if the oyster is very twisted, it may be interesting to place the shell with its lid facing outward.
