Abstract
Description
Use of an organophilic clay for producing self-gelling masks for cosmetic use.
Field of the Invention The present invention relates to the field of designing and producing compositions for cosmetic use. More specifically, the present invention relates to the field of self-gelling masks. State of the Prior Art Mask-type products are well known in the cosmetics field. They are in particular form of gel, emulsion or paste. These masks can be in particular moisturizing masks in the form of gel, cleaning masks often in the form of emulsion which can be removed by rinsing with water. There are also peeling masks. Peeling masks include masks based on polyvinyl alcohol, polyurethane or alginate. The alginate masks are composed of sodium alginate, a poorly soluble calcium source such as calcium sulfate and a calcium sequestrant such as sodium pyrophosphate. These masks are in the form of a powder of very small particle size. This powder is dispersed in water by the user and forms a paste which is uniformly applied to the skin. After application, the dough gels and forms a film which can then be removed by peeling. Gelation occurs by reaction of calcium ions with solubilized sodium alginate. This reaction is only possible if the sodium alginate is solubilized before free calcium ions are present in the medium. This is why a poorly soluble calcium salt is used in the presence of a very effective sequestering agent. The first free calcium ions are sequestered by the pyrophosphate until its quantitative consumption and then react with sodium alginate which has had time to solubilize. In addition to the gelling system (sodium alginate, calcium sulphate and sodium pyrophosphate), the mask composition also contains fillers for dispersing and individualizing the alginate particles. Indeed, without this dispersant, the alginate grains will stick to each other and form lumps. The main difficulty in selecting these bulking agents is that the bulking agent must not interfere with alginate solubilization or gelation. It is therefore necessary the most inert compounds possible and having a low affinity for water. The bulking agent traditionally used as a dispersing agent in the composition of self-gelling masks is diatomaceous earth. The diatomaceous earth has the advantage of not slowing the solubilization of the alginate, of not interfering during gelation while giving a homogeneous and smooth texture. However, a major disadvantage of diatomaceous earth is the presence of crystalline silica which represents a potential hazard to the manipulators in case of inhalation. There remains therefore the need for a self-gelling mask containing fillers and not having this drawback of the prior art.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION The object of the invention is therefore to improve the compositions of self-gelling masks for cosmetic use of the prior art. The object of the invention is in particular to propose a composition of self-gelling masks the manufacture and use of which are safe for the persons who are to handle them.
The invention also aims to provide a composition of self-gelling masks with cleaning properties and / or improved care compared to the techniques of the prior art.
Description of the invention The Applicant has surprisingly and unexpectedly found that it is possible to use organophilic clay fillers as dispersing agents in an alginate-based composition in order to obtain mask compositions. cosmetics.
A clay naturally occurs in the form of hydrophilic leaflets. When reacting quaternary ammonium salts or, more simply, alkylamines in an acidic medium with a hydrophilic clay, a so-called organophilic clay is obtained, which then has a high affinity for organic molecules (oils, etc.). and an extremely low affinity for water.
The subject of the invention is therefore the use of such organophilic clays as a dispersing agent in the production of a composition of self-gelling cosmetic masks, in particular masks which can be removed by peeling. The invention also relates to the corresponding compositions comprising at least one alginate, a source of calcium, a calcium sequestering agent and a dispersing agent of said alginate, said dispersing agent being an organophilic clay. Preferably, the organophilic clay will be chosen from the group consisting of bentonites, hectorites and montmorillonites with which at least one quaternary ammonium salt or at least one alkyl amine in an acidic medium has been reacted. The compositions of the invention preferably comprise between 20% to 95% and most preferably between 50% to 80% of organophilic clay dry weight of the total dry weight of the composition.
Preferably, the compositions of the invention comprise between 5% and 20% of an alginate, 5% and 20% of a source of calcium and 1% to 10% of a sequestrant respectively by dry weight of the total dry weight of the composition. . The use of an organophilic clay as a filler allows a gradual solubilization of the alginate and thus avoids the formation of poorly solubilized alginate agglomerates. The preparation obtained after rehydration of the composition is perfectly homogeneous and smooth, which allows to have during the application a completely uniform mask.
In addition, the reduced affinity of the organophilic clays makes it possible to obtain compositions that are less sensitive to moisture than the compositions of the prior art and therefore easier to preserve and longer effective than those of the prior art. Moreover, the particles of organophilic clay coming into contact with the skin and having a high affinity for the organic molecules will absorb the fatty compounds of the surface of the epidermis, in particular sebum but also pollutants such as pesticides, dioxins, cigarette smoke, heavy metals, .... In addition, the strong affinity of this type of clay for organic molecules offers the possibility of very easily integrating complementary assets such as essential oils, mineral compounds or plant extracts (algae, fruit ...) when carrying out the composition. The mask, once formed, will behave as an occlusive system by promoting the diffusion and penetration of assets previously incorporated on the skin.
However, unlike the usual occlusive materials that can generate a heating of the skin with redness or irritation, the clay mask does not induce these disadvantages and provides on the contrary a particularly pleasant cool effect. In parallel, this mask will help maintain the ion balance of the skin (concentration of monovalent and divalent macro-elements: calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium). In particular, depending on the needs of the skin, calcium ions will be exchanged between the alginate and the skin: in the presence of high concentrations of monovalent ions, calcium alginates will be released.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF AN EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION The following example of composition according to the invention and of implementation of a composition according to the invention is given by way of illustration and without limitation. Compound Trade name / INCI name Mixed% total dry weight Organophilic clay Tixogel MPZ 60 Stearalkonium bentonite (100%) Benzyl alcohol (0.002%) Calcium source Calcium sulphate dihydrate Calcium sulfate (100%) Alginate Sodium alginate 12 Algin ( 100%) Sequestrant Tetrasodium pyrophosphate 8 Tetrasodium pyrophosphate (100%) Each of the compounds is in powder form. Two ranges of organophilic clay powder, Claytone and Tixogel are marketed and distributed by the companies ROCKWOOD ADDITIVES and CHIMILAB ESSOR respectively. Each product line can be used according to the present invention. The four powders are mixed in the proportions defined in a mixer and the resulting composition is packaged in pots or buckets. In use, three doses of the composition are mixed with 4 doses of warm water at 20-25 ° C and immediately mixed vigorously to obtain a smooth and homogeneous paste. The resulting paste is applied to the skin and left in contact with the skin for at least 10 minutes. After this period, the mask is peeled off in one piece. It is understood that many parameters such as: - the concentrations of minerals and trace elements of the water used for the rehydration of the composition (the more water used is rich in calcium and the more the setting time will be short ); - the temperature of the water used; - the incorporation of products (essential oils, creams, ...) into the composition; intervene on the setting time, the effects and the quality of the mask.
