Abstract

The assembly has a body element i.e. bonnet (2) made of steel, connected to a structural element (8) i.e. lower crosspiece, by a support (9) that is configured to subside and authorize the displacement of the element to dampen an impact applied on the element. Another body element (5) i.e. plastic part, is retracted during the displacement of the bonnet when the element (5) contacts with a rotation axle (7) of the vehicle. The body element is clipped, screwed or joined on the bonnet. An independent claim is also included for a method for mounting a body element on a carrier structure of a motor vehicle.

Description

The present invention relates to the positioning and maintenance on the structure of a motor vehicle, body elements and in particular the front body, such as the hood of the vehicle. The present invention more particularly relates to an assembly consisting of a first motor vehicle bodywork element extended by at least a second bodywork element, the first bodywork element being connected to a support structure by at least one support configured to collapse and allow the movement of the first body member on the carrier structure to dampen an impact applied to the first body member.

20 ETAT DE LA TECHNIQUE :STATE OF THE ART:

It is known to rest the front cover on mechanical parts forming a fuse, that is to say parts that are likely to break or bend under the action of a shock on the hood. Due to the deformation of said parts, the cover collapses, which ensures shock absorption, for example of the head or the body of a pedestrian. However, this solution has several disadvantages. Indeed, during its sagging stroke of the hood, it may meet structural elements of the vehicle. These elements, such as an axis of rotation of a windscreen wiper, are fixed in rigid elements of the vehicle and can oppose the movement of a fuse cover which collapses when it is subjected to a force. When the hood meets a fixed element of the vehicle during its race, it can not collapse completely. The hood does not fulfill its role of shock absorber for example for a pedestrian hit by the vehicle, which increases the damage suffered by the pedestrian. Furthermore, if a wiper pin integral with the vehicle structure hinders the sagging of the vehicle hood, this axis is a hard point of contact that is dangerous for a pedestrian struck by the front of the vehicle.

DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION: To remedy these drawbacks, the invention proposes a bodywork element, for example a hood of a motor vehicle, capable of collapsing completely when it is shocked by proposing a retraction system connected to the hood that can be activated when it encounters a structural element of the vehicle. For this purpose, the invention provides an arrangement of the type previously described, characterized in that the second body member retracts during the movement of the first body member when it comes into contact with a structural member of the vehicle. According to other features of the invention - the first body member is steel and the second body member is plastic or tale; the second bodywork element is provided with a folding start line with a view to its retraction along the connection with the first bodywork element enabling it to retract during the displacement of the first bodywork element when it comes into contact with a structural element of the vehicle; - The second body member is fixed to the first body member by screwing or clipping; the support forms at least one tab in the form of a strip and designed to collapse in order to allow a vertical displacement of the first bodywork element; - The band forming a tab of the support is provided with a fold line of folding for its retraction; - The first body element is a front hood of a motor vehicle having an appearance surface and a reinforcing liner. The present invention further relates to a method of mounting a body member on a motor vehicle support structure, comprising the step of attaching the body member to the carrier structure using at least one support intended to collapse in the event of impact applied to the bodywork element, in order to dampen such impact by displacement of the bodywork element with respect to the supporting structure, characterized in that it comprises preliminary step of providing the body member previously secured to the second body member.

DESCRIPTION DETAILLEE DE MODES DE REALISATION PREFERES DE L'INVENTION :  DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION:

In the following description, like reference numerals refer to like parts or having similar functions. In known manner, Figure 1 is a schematic representation of a hood of a motor vehicle 2 consisting of a part 21 and a liner 22 connected together by welding. This cover 2 defines the exterior of the vehicle above the appearance part 21 and the engine compartment under the liner 22. Figure 1 shows the rear end of the hood 2 facing the vehicle windshield 6 . The windshield 6 is integral with a structural element 8 of the vehicle, for example a lower cross member. According to a known embodiment, the wipers (not shown) of the vehicle are housed between the cover 2 and the windshield 6 so as to include them in the residual space. The axis of rotation of these windscreen wipers normally protrudes outwardly of the vehicle to allow the alternative rotation of the windscreen wipers on the windshield 6. To allow the windshield wipers to be properly positioned relative to the windshield wiper. breeze 6, the axis of rotation 7 has an incompressible volume and minimum dimensions do not allow it to sag in case of shock. In this configuration, the axis of rotation 7 constitutes an obstacle to the downward movement of the vehicle hood 2. Indeed, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, the axis of rotation 7 is located on the path of the hood 2 which can not evolve properly from an initial position to a retracted position when it is shocked. To solve this technical problem, the present invention proposes to extend the cover 2 by a second element 5 body. This body element 5 is a plastic part of reduced thickness connected to the cover 3 by fastening means (not shown). In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the second body element is clipped, screwed or welded to the hood 2.

In the embodiment shown in Figure 2, the body member 5 is fixed on the cover 2 so that it is in the extension of the part of appearance 21 to respect the shape of said cover 2. The figure 1 furthermore represents a support 9 on which the hood 2 comes to rest. The support 9 forms at least one tab in the form of a strip designed to collapse in order to allow a vertical displacement of the cover 2. This strip forms a tab of the support and is provided with a fold initiation line for its retraction.

As represented by the evolution of FIG. 1 in FIG. 2, the shock caused, for example, by the head 3 of a pedestrian on the cover 2 causes folding of the support 9 and then the collapse of the cover 2 on the support 8 In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the cover 2 rests on a plurality of supports 9 distributed over the periphery of the cover 2. In such a way as to allow the cover 2 to collapse completely and to guarantee sufficient damping of the shock caused by the head. 3, the second bodywork element 5 also has a groove 4 in which a folding start line is made for its retraction. When the hood 2 collapses, the second bodywork element 5 meets the axis of rotation 7 of the wiper causing the folding of the groove 4 and the retraction of the element 5. In another embodiment, embodiment of the invention, a single bodywork element 2 and 5 comprises an arrangement in the form of a fold initiation line allowing a portion of the hood to retract when it encounters an obstacle when a shock is applied on the hood. The embodiment as claimed in the present invention ensures the proper operation of the pedestrian shock damping system while allowing the implantation of structural elements in the space necessary for the release of the hood.
