Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a door bottom insulation device. Such insulators are used for caulking doors.
The door sill insulation devices known on the market are traditionally made of a rigid profile of metal or plastic, such as PVC, finished with a flexible seal or brush fibers. The profile is fixed to the bottom of the door by screwing or by means of an adhesive provided on the profile. The main disadvantage of these devices is their lack of aesthetics. Indeed, they are arranged at the bottom of the door, usually on the inside, and remain visible. Moreover, when these insulating devices are installed on overhead doors, such as garage doors, the stresses exerted on the profile during the opening or ferrneture of the overhead door are such that the profile has tendency to spoil or even tear away over time.
The present invention aims to overcome the disadvantages of the prior art. In this perspective, one of the essential objectives of the present invention is to provide an aesthetic door bottom insulation device while providing maximum insulation. Another essential object of the present invention is to provide an isolation device that can be adapted for use as a swing door. Another essential objective of the present invention is to provide a door-bottom insulation device easily adjustable in height for better insulation efficiency. Another essential objective of the present invention is to provide an easy and economical insulation device to manufacture, to meet the economic requirements of the market. These objectives, among others, are achieved by the present invention which relates to a door bottom insulation device, characterized in that it comprises an insulation strip, intended to be arranged under the door, and extended on at least one of its longitudinal sides by a tongue forming substantially an L with the insulation strip at least during use of said device, said tongue being intended to be fixed to the door, and in that said insulation strip has, on its face intended to be opposite the door bottom, an elastically deformable insulating material. Advantageously, the insulation strip may have a width substantially corresponding to the thickness of the door, in order to fit the thickness of the door perfectly.
According to a variant of the invention, the insulation strip may be extended on its two longitudinal sides by a tongue, said tongues substantially forming a U with the insulation strip at least during use of said device, each tongue being then intended to be fixed on both sides of the door.
Preferably, the tongue is constituted by a flexible flap, connected to said insulation strip by a fold line. This flexible flap makes it easier to set up the device according to the invention and to adapt the insulation device to the exact shape of the door to be protected. More specifically, the tongue may be in the same plane as the insulation strip to facilitate the installation of the insulation device under the door, then the tongue is folded on the door then forming an L with the strip of insulation (or a U if there are two tabs) to then be attached to the door. Advantageously, the tongue may comprise, on its face intended to be opposite the door, an adhesive coating protected by a removable protective film, for fixing the insulation device on the door.
It is obvious that the tongue can be fixed to the door by any other suitable known fastening means, such as screws or nails. Similarly, it can be provided that the insulation strip comprises, on its face intended to be opposite the bottom of the door, an adhesive coating protected by a removable protective film, for reinforcing the fixing of the insulation device under the door .
Preferably, the insulation strip and the tongues may be made of metal or plastics, such as PVC. According to a variant of the invention, the insulating material may be flat and of constant thickness. It can also be covered with a layer of felt. This arrangement is particularly adapted to promote the sliding of the insulation device according to the invention relative to the ground when the isolation device is used on a traditional vertical hinge door. According to another variant of the invention, the insulating material may have a section of rounded shape, particularly adapted to promote the sliding of the isolation device according to the invention relative to the ground when the isolation device is used on a door tilting, of the type for example garage door. The insulating material may be chosen from the group comprising in particular polyurethane foam, polyethylene foam, PVC foam, rubber and silicone. These materials are prepared so as to be elastically deformable in order to be able to adapt perfectly to the space to be filled between the floor and the bottom of the door for good insulation, while allowing an easy opening and closing movement of the door. said door.
Due to its design and the materials used for its realization, the isolation device according to the invention is particularly economical to manufacture. In a particularly advantageous manner, the tongue may be transparent or have a color similar to that of the door. The tongue thus becomes invisible when it is placed on the door. The tongue can also be painted with the door to no longer be visible. The isolation device according to the invention is very easily put in place by sliding the insulation strip under the door and then folding and fixing the tongue or tabs on the bottom of the door, so that the device has the shape an L or a U fitting perfectly the thickness of the bottom of the door. The tongue or tabs are placed on the door depending on the height of the space to be filled between the floor and the bottom of the door. The device of the invention is therefore easily adjustable in height to ensure the best possible insulation. The fixing at the bottom of the door is made in a very simple manner, removing the protective films or tabs, and possibly that of the insulation tape. The present invention also relates to the use of the isolation device described above for isolating a vertical hinged door bottom. In this case, the insulating material, being arranged under the door, is completely invisible. The tongues are also invisible, the device according to the invention is no longer apparent and does not alter the aesthetic appearance of the door to be protected, unlike the door sills of the prior art. The present invention also relates to the use of the device described above in the variant according to which the insulating material has a section of rounded shape, for isolating a tilting door bottom. The rounded specific shape of the insulating material allows the isolation device according to the invention to slide better during the operation of the overhead door and to reduce the stresses exerted on said device. As a result, the device according to the invention is more resistant to friction and no longer tends to tear. Other advantages and features will become more apparent from the following description of various embodiments of an isolation device according to the invention, given by way of non-limiting examples, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which the figures 1 to 3 show a perspective view of three variants of the isolation device according to the invention. Referring to Figure 1, there is shown a first variant of an isolation device 1 of a door bottom according to the invention. According to this first variant, the device 1 comprises an insulating strip 2, of rectangular shape, having a width corresponding substantially to the thickness of the door to be protected and a length sufficient to correspond to the width of the door, possibly after cutting to obtain an insulation device of appropriate length. The insulation strip 2 is for example in the form of a rigid PVC sheet, or any other suitable material, transparent or of a color similar to that of the door (wood appearance for example). The insulation strip 2 serves to support an elastically deformable insulating material 3, such as polyurethane foam or any other suitable material. The insulating material 3 is disposed under the insulation strip 2, on the face intended to be facing the ground and opposite the bottom of the door. In this variant intended more particularly for vertical hinged doors, that is to say the traditional doors, the insulating material 3 is deposited in the form of a flat layer of constant thickness. In order to reduce any noise related to the friction of the insulating device 1 on the floor, in case of operation of the door, the insulating material 3 is covered with a layer of felt 4, flat, constant thickness also. On its other side, that is to say the face intended to be facing the bottom of the door, the insulation strip 2 comprises an adhesive coating protected by a removable protective film 5. In this variant, the strip of 2 is extended on one of its longitudinal sides by a tongue 6, constituted by a flexible flap connected to the insulation strip 2 by a fold line 7. When using the isolation device 2, the shutter flexible is arranged so that the tongue 6 substantially forms an L with the insulation strip 2, to marry the shape of the bottom of the door. The tongue 6 has the necessary height to form a surface adhering to the door sufficient to ensure the maintenance of the insulating device 1. The tongue 6 may have a length identical to that of the insulation strip 2. But it is also possible to provide a tongue 6 cut in the form of several tabs for fixing the isolation device at several points of the door. The tongue 6 being in the extension of the insulation strip 2, it is also in the form of a rigid PVC sheet or any other suitable material, transparent or of a color similar to that of the door (wood appearance for example ). To ensure its fixing on the door, the tongue 6 has, on its face intended to be opposite the door, an adhesive coating protected by a removable protective film 8.
To fix the isolation device 1, after having put the insulation strip 2 under the door and folded the tongue 6, simply remove the removable protective film 8, and stick the tab 6 on the bottom of the door to the appropriate height so that the felt 4 touches the ground so as to seal. The isolation device 1, after its introduction, is completely invisible since the insulating strip 2 is hidden under the door and the tongue 6 for fixing merges with the door.
According to a second variant shown in FIG. 2, the insulation device 10 comprises an insulation strip 12 covered, on its face intended to be facing the ground, with an insulating material 13 and with a felt 14. In this variant intended more particularly for vertical hinged doors, that is to say the traditional doors, the insulating material 13 and the felt 14 are deposited in the form of a flat layer of constant thickness. If it is desired to strengthen the fixing of the insulation device 10 at the bottom of the door, it is possible to provide, on the other side of the insulation strip 12, an adhesive coating protected by a removable film 15.
In this variant, the insulation strip 12 is extended on each of its longitudinal sides by a tongue 16a, 16b, each consisting of a flexible flap connected to the insulation strip 12 by a fold line 17a, 17b respectively. When using the isolation device 10, the flexible flaps are arranged so that the tabs 16a, 16b substantially form a U with the insulation strip 12, so as to fit the bottom of the door. To ensure their attachment to the door, each tab 16a, 16b comprises, on its face intended to be opposite the door, an adhesive coating protected by a removable protective film 18a, 18b. To fix the insulation device 10 after having put the insulation strip 12 under the door and folded the tabs 16a, 16b, simply remove the removable protective films 18a, 18b, and stick each tab 16a, 16b on each side of the bottom of the door at the appropriate height so that the felt 14 touches the ground so as to seal. According to a third variant shown in FIG. 3, the insulation device 20 comprises an insulating strip 22 covered, on its face intended to be facing the ground, with an insulating material 23. In this variant intended more particularly for swing doors, the insulating material 23 is polyurethane foam, and has a section of rounded shape, so as to promote the sliding of the insulating material 23 on the ground during the tilting of the door and to reduce the stresses exerted on the device 20. On its other side, that is to say the face intended to be facing the bottom of the door, the insulation strip 22 comprises an adhesive coating protected by a removable protective film 25. In this alternatively, the insulation strip 22 is extended on one of its longitudinal sides by a tongue 26, constituted by a flexible flap connected to the insulation strip 22 by a fold line 27. 10 of the isolation device 20, the flexible flap is arranged so that the tongue 26 substantially forms an L with the insulation strip 22. To ensure its attachment to the door, the tongue 26 has on its face intended to be next to the door, an adhesive coating protected by a removable protective film 28. The insulation strip 22 and the tongue 26 are in the form of a transparent rigid PVC sheet so as to be invisible on the door. To fix the isolation device 20 after putting in place the insulation strip 22 under the door and folded the tab 26, simply remove the removable protective film 28, and stick the tab 26 on the bottom of the door at the appropriate height so that the insulating material 23 touches the ground so as to seal. It is obvious that this variant can also be made with a tongue on each longitudinal side of the insulation strip.
