Description
The present invention relates to a device for installing suspension springs on a vehicle in a mounting line, in particular rear suspension springs on a motor vehicle during manufacture. It also relates to a method of installing springs on a vehicle that uses such a device.
To mount a suspension spring, for example a rear suspension, on a vehicle in a mounting line, it must first be compressed. Means exist for compressing the springs during assembly.
For example, it is known from FR 2 421 034, a device for mounting and disassembly of high power springs - also called spring-lift - for a large spring. The device applies, in particular, to an axle spring of a motor vehicle. This device comprises two parts, which are arranged co-axially relative to each other and which move in the axial direction relative to each other under the action of a force. At these parts are respectively fixed two studs or semi-circular socket horseshoe sectional section approximately U. The crampons are arranged laterally in superposition relative to each other. One of the grip cleats is attached to one end of a guide tube. The other gripping cleat is attached to a sliding element capable of moving along the wall of the tube or along the rod, which cooperates, thanks to a female thread, with a threaded rod mounted in the guide tube or the guide rod.
Also known according to US 4,034,960, a device that can compress a vehicle suspension spring without the need to extract the suspension. This device, for example for a Mac Pherson type suspension, has U-shaped upper and lower pressure jaws which have helicoid-shaped outer peripheral surfaces which define slots for receiving spaced turns of the spring between opposite ends. spring. At least one of the jaws can be set in translation. Both jaws can be adjusted in angular position. Two pneumatic cylinders are positioned side by side between the upper jaw and the lower jaw. Pressurized air is supplied to the device to move the jaws relative to each other and thereby compress the spring or, on the contrary, pressurized air is evacuated to release the spring. Return springs are provided in the cylinders to hold the jaws in the non-compression position when the pressurized air is removed from the device. According to an alternative embodiment of the device, the lower jaw is replaced by a clamp mounted on a bench which engages in the suspension below the spring. However, on the assembly lines of motor vehicles, the presence, under the vehicles suspended in raised position, of metal bars of protection in case of fall - or anti-fall bars - prevents the use on the workstation of a transport trolley that would work with devices of the type known to those of the prior art.
Indeed, the use of a device as briefly described above to perform the installation of two rear springs on a vehicle, for example, would require the simultaneous presence and action of several editing operators, namely a first operator for carrying the mounting device and two other mounting operators for the pneumatic screwing operation, placed respectively on one side and the other of the assembly line. The object of the present invention is to provide a new device for installing suspension springs on a vehicle in a mounting line, in particular rear suspension springs on a motor vehicle, to hold the laying cycle time of the two springs. back with only two editing operators.
Another object of the present invention is to provide such a device, which can be used in a restricted space, and which is lighter than the mounting devices known from the prior art. Finally, it is also an object of the present invention to provide such a device, which is simple in design, easy to manufacture, easy to use and simple, which is robust, reliable and economical. To achieve these aims, the present invention provides a new device for mounting suspension springs on a vehicle, in particular rear suspension springs on a motor vehicle, which comprises: - a compression tool of a spring, which can be carried by a mounting operator and which is equipped with hydraulic means for compressing and extending the spring along its longitudinal axis, and - a preparation desk, located at the edge of the vehicle assembly line, which comprises positioning means a spring to mount, support means and hydraulic power supply means of said compression tool. According to the preferred embodiment of the invention, the hydraulic means of compression and extension of the spring along the longitudinal axis of the latter are constituted by two sliding jaws which can be moved towards or away from each other by a hydraulic cylinder mechanism. According to the preferred embodiment of the invention also, the positioning means of a spring to be mounted are constituted by two positioning pins of the preparation desk intended to receive respectively one and the other of the longitudinal ends of the spring to ascend. In addition, the positioning means may comprise a locating stop in rotation for referencing the spring according to its inside diameter. Preferably, the support means of the compression tool consist of at least one tubular support, substantially T-shaped, for supporting one of the sliding jaws of the compression tool. The console may include a balancer at the top for hooking the power supply cables. Preferably, the compression tool comprises a button for controlling the clamping of the jaws for compressing the spring and a button for controlling the loosening of the jaws for extending the spring.
The console comprises a hydraulic unit, located in the lower part of the console, for the hydraulic power supply of the compression tool. This hydraulic unit can be removably mounted on the desk and can be approached from the assembly line.
The device of the invention comprises a fixed assembly and a movable assembly. As shown in the drawing of FIGS. 1 and 2, the stationary assembly is constituted by a preparatory desk, of general reference 1, located on the edge of the vehicle assembly line, which comprises positioning means, of general reference , a mounting spring (not shown), support means 20 and hydraulic power supply means for feeding a general reference compression tool 50, described later in the text. The console 1 has the general shape of a main mast 1A whose upper end supports a cable support balancer 2, and a secondary mast 1B rigidly connected to the main mast 1A by transverse beams 1D and 1F. The positioning means 10 of a spring to be mounted are carried by the secondary mast 1B. These positioning means 10 are essentially constituted by two positioning pins 11 and 12 (Figure 2) for respectively receiving one and the other of the two ends of a spring to be mounted. The positioning means 10 also comprise a rotational location stop 12A for referencing the spring to be mounted according to its inside diameter. The preparation desk 1 also comprises support means 20 for the compression tool 50. These support means 20 consist of two tubular supports, referenced 21 and 22, substantially T-shaped, intended to support one of the two sliding jaws, respectively 51 and 52, of the compression tool 50. The preparation desk 1 also comprises a hydraulic unit 30, located in the lower part of the desk 1, on the base 1C of the desk 1, for the supply of hydraulic power of the compression tool 50. This hydraulic unit 30 is removably mounted on the desk 1 and can be approached from the vehicle assembly line by rolling it on the ground, so that one gains about 5 meters of a flexible pipe. Referring more particularly to the drawing of FIGS. 3 to 5, the compression tool 50 will now be described. The compression tool 50 is a member that can be manually carried by a mounting operator through a tubular handle 53 The tool 50 has a generally parallelepipedal general shape. The tool 50 comprises two sliding jaws 51 and 52 which slide on a longitudinal surface of the parallelepipedal shape. The two jaws 51 and 52 can be moved closer together or away from each other by a hydraulic cylinder mechanism, of known type, represented only by its fluid supply duct 54. A pneumatic control represented by its housing 58, powered by the conductor 55, allows to control the movement of bringing the two jaws 51 and 52 closer together or away from each other. This control comprises a button for controlling the clamping of the jaws 56 for compressing the spring and a button for controlling the loosening of the jaws 57 for the extension of the spring. The control button 56 supplies the pump of the hydraulic unit 30 with air and compresses. The control button 57 cuts the air and the single-acting hydraulic cylinder returns to its original position by means of an integrated spring system. These two control buttons 56 and 57 can be of different color: red for button 56 and green for button 57, for example. There is shown in the drawing of Figure 5 the two clamping jaws 51 and 52 on a spring R to be mounted, the clamping axis and the spring R being designated XX '. The method of installing rear suspension springs on a vehicle in a mounting line is as follows. - Place the spring R to be mounted between the two locating pins 11 and 12 of the preparation desk 1, the spring R being referenced according to its inside diameter and according to the rotational location stop 12A, - one removes the compression tool 50 of its support 20, and the cables of the balancer 2 are unhitched, - the clamping jaws 51 and 52 of the compression tool 50 are placed between the turns of the spring R to be mounted, the clamping control knob 56 to move the jaws or the release control knob 57 away from them), - the jaws 51 and 52 of the compression tool 50 are brought together to compress the spring R to be mounted up to the spring is extracted from the positioning pins 11 and 12, the assembly formed by the compression tool 50 and the spring R to be mounted on the vehicle is positioned in the mounting line; the jaws 51 and 52 of the compression tool 50 so that the spring R extends and is placed in place on the vehicle, and - the compression tool 50 is placed on its support 20 on the console 1 before repeating the same operations for another spring to be mounted.
By way of example, and to illustrate the embodiment of the invention, the maximum compression force provided by the compression tool is of the order of 400 daN (Deca Newton) and the length of a spring sufficiently compressed to be passed in its housing is of the order of 240 mm. It should be noted that, for the safety of the mounting operator using the device of the invention, an internal flow limiter can be provided which reduces the maximum operating pressure of the compression tool from 700 bar to About 70 bars. Note also that the two sliding jaws 51 and 52 are made of steel, preferably treated 42CD4 steel (steel for oil quenching for high stress, delivered in a quenched and tempered state). The body of the compression tool 50 may be of steel or aluminum, with slides for moving the jaws which are steel for the guide rollers. The invention has many advantages, among which the following advantages: - it allows the installation of the springs on the vehicle in the assembly line with a minimum number of assembly operators (only 1 operator for the installation of a spring against 2 operators with a device of the prior art), it allows the operator to work in a restricted space and in an ergonomically favorable manner, it does not require the use of a support carriage, and is therefore, of possible use under the vehicle even when there are fall arrest bars (as illustrated in B in Figure 6), - it is easy to use because the compression tool is more light weight (about 6 kg) than the similar function tools known from the prior art. Of course, the present invention is not limited to the embodiment described and shown above by way of example; other embodiments may be devised by those skilled in the art without departing from the scope and scope of the present invention.
