Abstract

The box has inner flaps (8, 9) with lateral edges adjoined to the corresponding edges of outer flaps (6, 7) and articulated on the outer flaps by a folding line. Corners of the inner flaps are contiguous to the wall and outer flaps, and folding lines (10-12) form an angle with the lateral edges such that parts (8a, 8b, 9a) of the inner and outer flaps disposed between the respective lines and the contiguous edges, respectively, are folded on the remaining flaps to form a gusset when the flaps are folded perpendicular to the associated walls (1-4).

Description

New boxes with flaps made of a semi-rigid material, cut blanks and

  for the production of these boxes and their use.

  The present invention relates to improvements made to flip-flops of a semi-rigid material, such as cardboard or corrugated board, of the American box or half-box type, in particular those having a reduced height relative to their section. cross-section, in order to reinforce the squareness of their walls. It also relates to precut blanks and repressed for the realization of these boxes and a use thereof.

  The boxes to which the present invention is concerned are, in particular those designated by references 0200 to 0231 of the International Code for Carton Packaging, published in France by FEFCO and adopted on a world-wide basis by the International Association of Manufacturers of Cartons. Corrugated cardboard, still known as ICCA.

  Such boxes are generally issued from a single blank precut and repressed in a semi-rigid material, and they comprise four side walls each arranged perpendicularly to the adjacent walls and hinged together by parallel fold lines, two of these walls n ' being not adjacent but joined by at least one connecting element, which is adjacent to one of them, on which it is articulated by a folding line parallel to the preceding ones, and which is secured, for example by gluing, from the other wall. Flaps are articulated on these four walls by folding lines perpendicular to the preceding and arranged in the same plane, these flaps being adapted to be folded perpendicular to the adjacent walls, two of them, called "external flaps" articulated on two opposite walls, being turned towards the outside of the body, in the folded state, and covering the two other flaps called "internal flaps" articulated on two other opposite walls and facing the interior of the body.

  In the remainder of the present description and in the appended claims, it is such boxes that will be designated by the expression flap boxes.

  When these boxes have a low height and a large cross section, in a plane perpendicular to the fold lines by which the side walls are hinged together, for example when the box is intended for the conditioning of a single bed of coated objects of thin, for example bottles, it is difficult to obtain a satisfactory squareness of the side walls of the box, when joining it, which does not deteriorate during use.

  This is the problem of the present invention and aims to provide a simple, easy to implement and inexpensive way to improve the squareness of the walls of such flap boxes.

  o For this purpose, the subject of the invention is a box with flaps of a semi-rigid material such as cardboard or corrugated board, characterized in that: - the lateral edges of the internal flaps are adjacent, depending on at least a part their length from the associated wall, to the corresponding edge (s) of the contiguous outer flaps and are articulated thereon by a fold line disposed in a plane perpendicular to the associated wall and passing between these edges; - From the corner or corners of these internal flaps contiguous to the associated wall and the outer flaps contiguous extends obliquely, on these internal flaps, a fold line forming with the contiguous side edge an angle such that the portion of the flap internal disposed between this oblique fold line and the adjacent side edge can be folded over the rest of the inner flap forming a bellows, when the different flaps are folded perpendicular to the associated walls.

  With the internal flaps thus folded on themselves forming one or bellows, these flaps are much less likely to move relative to the outer flaps, resulting in a better squareness of the side walls of the body, especially if the height of it is weak, compared to its cross section.

  This adaptation of the usual flap boxes is very simple and entails practically no additional manufacturing costs.

  The invention is suitable both for American half-boxes and American boxes themselves, with various types of funds, and when these boxes include internal and external flaps articulated on two parallel edges of each of the side walls, the improvements according to the invention can be applied to the flaps arranged on one side of the box, the other flaps can then be adapted to the intended use for this box, as well as all the flaps arranged on both sides of the fund.

  When at least one connecting element of the side walls of the box is attached to a side wall thereof and is secured to a contiguous side wall not adjacent to the previous one, the inner flap adjoining one of these walls may comprise only an oblique fold line, starting from the corner contiguous to the external flap to which it is attached and on which it is articulated, because there is no interest in then providing a second fold line starting the opposite corner, since the contiguous edge of the flap is a free edge.

  On the other hand, if the connecting element of the lateral walls is a band laterally articulated on one wall by a fold line and made integral with a contiguous wall not adjacent to the preceding one, and if this strip extends laterally along the edge of the corresponding inner flap by a portion intended to be secured to a contiguous outer flap, this portion of the strip may be adjacent to the inner flap and be articulated thereon by a fold line disposed in a plane perpendicular to the associated wall and it may extend along a portion of the edge of this flap from the corresponding corner, a second oblique fold line then being formed from this corner forming with the contiguous edge of the inner flap an angle such that the portion of this flap limited by this second oblique line and this contiguous edge can be folded forming a bellows on the rest of the internal flap, when the outer flap contiguous is folded perpendicularly to the associated wall.

  As will be seen below in more detail, the invention also applies to the case where the flap case comprises a so-called S junction, that is to say in the case where a side wall of the body as well as the at least one internal flap adjacent thereto each comprises two parts assembled by gluing, the "composite" internal flap (s) thus produced being able to be considered as an ordinary internal flap and being adjoined by a fold line along part of their two lateral edges to the two adjacent outer flaps, with an oblique fold line starting from each of the ends of the fold line by which this "composite" internal flap is hinged to the associated "composite" wall.

  In all these forms of implementation of the invention, at each corner of the inner flap corresponding to an end of the fold line by which the inner flap is hinged to the associated wall and from which a fold line s' extends obliquely on the inner flap, will be formed a cutout, for example circular, intended to facilitate the folding bellows of the inner flap.

  The invention also relates to a pre-cut blank and repressed in a semi-rigid material for the realization of a flap box as defined above, this blank comprising at least four first rectangular panels hinged together by lines of folding along parallel edges and whose other edges are in the extension of each other, so that these first panels form a strip, a connecting member being articulated by a folding line parallel to the preceding on the panel disposed at a end of this band and being intended to be secured to the panel disposed at the other end of the strip, the first panels being intended to form the walls of the body, and four second panels respectively hinged on the previous by folding lines aligned and merged with an edge thereof, these second panels being intended to form external flaps and flaps in d blank of the box, this blank being characterized in that one of the second panels is contiguous in at least a portion of its lateral edges to the two adjacent second panels and articulated thereon by fold lines arranged in the extension of those by which the first panel adjacent to this panel is adjacent to the first contiguous panels, while the second panel adjoining the first panel disposed at one end of the strip of the first panels is also attached, along at least part of its lateral edge corresponding to the second panel contiguous and articulated thereon by a fold line disposed in line with that by which the second panel is hinged to the second adjacent panel, and in that fold lines are formed obliquely in the second panels from the corner or corners of these panels where they are adjacent to adjacent panels.

  Other features and advantages of the invention will appear in the following detailed description of various forms of implementation thereof. In this description, reference is made to the accompanying drawings, in which the like parts of the illustrated corrugated boxes are designated by the same references. In these drawings: FIG. 1 is a plan view of a pre-cut and repressed corrugated cardboard blank from which a first flap box according to the invention can be made; - Figure 2 is a perspective view of the flap box from the blank of Figure 1; FIG. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 1 of a pre-cut and repressed blank, from which can be made a second flap box according to the invention; - Figure 4 is a perspective view of the box from Figure 3, illustrating its use for packaging a bed of three bottles lying down; - Figures 5 and 6 are views similar to Figure 3, two other pre-cut blanks and repressed, from which can be made respectively a third and a fourth box flaps according to the invention.

  Reference will first be made to FIGS. 1 and 2, which illustrate a first embodiment of the invention.

  The flap case shown comprises two rectangular longitudinal walls, 1 and 2, and two transverse walls also rectangular, 3 and 4, hinged together along their lateral edges by parallel fold lines. A joining strip 5, adjoining the wall 4 by a fold line parallel to the preceding, is glued against the inner face of the wall 1 adjacent to which the wall 4 is not adjacent. Each wall is perpendicular to the contiguous walls.

  At each of the walls are adjacent fold lines perpendicular to the preceding two rectangular flaps intended to be folded perpendicularly to these walls, namely two sets of external flaps 6-6 'and 7-7', respectively adjacent to the longitudinal walls 1 and 2, and two sets of internal flaps 8-8 'and 9-9', respectively adjacent to the transverse walls 3 and 4. The fold lines by which these flaps are articulated on the associated walls are arranged substantially in two parallel planes according to the edges of these walls perpendicular to the fold lines by which they are hinged together.

  It will be noted that the flaps 6 ', 7', 8 'and 9' usually comprise free lateral edges, extending from the fold line by which these flaps are respectively hinged to the associated walls, and that, in the starting blank (see Figure 1), the side edges of each of these flaps are separated from the side edge of the contiguous flap along their entire length by a notch from the same fold line.

  In contrast, according to the invention, the lateral edges of the flaps 6, 7, 8 and 9 are contiguous over part of their length to the adjacent flaps from the fold line by which these flaps are articulated on the associated walls. . More specifically, the free edges of the inner flap 8 are attached over part of their length to each of the outer flaps 6 and 7, while the inner flap 9 is attached along part of its length to the outer flap 7 contiguous.

  In addition, according to the invention, from the ends of the fold line by which the flap 8 is articulated on the wall 3, and from the end contiguous to the flap 7 of the fold line by which the flap 9 is articulated on the wall 4, folding lines 10, 11 and 12 are formed obliquely on the flaps 8 and 9 and make with the previous an angle such that, as shown in Figure 2, when the flaps 6, 7, 8 and 9 are folded to be brought into a position perpendicular to the adjoining walls, parts 8a and 8b of the flap 8 located between the lines 8 and 11 and the contiguous edges, on the one hand, and the portion 9a of the flap 9 located between the line 12 and the contiguous edge, on the other hand, are folded over the rest of the flap, forming a bellows with the outer flap contiguous covering them.

  The formation by folding of these bellows has the effect of securing all of the internal flaps 8, 9 and locking them in position relative to the outer flaps 6, 7, resulting in an improved and durable squaring of the side walls, even if the height of these walls is reduced, compared to the cross section of the body.

  It will be noted that at the connection points of the oblique fold lines 10, 11 and 12, and fold lines by which the internal flaps 8 and 9 are articulated on the associated walls, cutouts 13, here circular, are formed in the corrugated cardboard, so as to facilitate the bending folds of the internal flaps.

  It will also be noted that the flap 9, which has a free lateral edge, has only an oblique fold line 12 extending from the corner opposite this free edge, since a bellow of the portion contiguous to this free edge and by therefore not attached to the outer flap 6 contiguous would produce no effect.

  In the case of the example of Figures 1 and 2, the oblique lines 10 and 11 and 12 completion in the middle of the edge of the inner flap 8, 9 to opposite the fold line by which the flap is hinged to the associated wall, but lines 10-12 could have a different orientation.

  In the case of FIG. 1, the flaps 6 '- 9' have been shown to be usual flaps not adjacent to the adjacent flaps, but of course there is nothing to prevent them from being made in accordance with FIG. The invention, in the same manner as the flaps 6 -9 Figures 3 and 4 are intended to illustrate an application of the box according to the invention, wherein the height of the body is low, compared to its cross section. The body shown is in all respects identical to that of FIGS. 1 and 2, with the only difference that, in the internal flap 8 ', of a conventional type, opposite the flap 8 according to the invention, are provided two lines of section 14 parallel to the wall 3 adjacent respectively from one of the free lateral edges of the flap, over a length of about one-third of the corresponding dimension thereof, while the end of these cutting lines 14 no contiguous to the corresponding edge of the flap 8 'is connected by a fold line 15 to the edge of this flap 8' parallel to the wall 3. This box is intended here for packaging a bed of thin or diameter coated objects, here three bottles 17 arranged in parallel between the walls 1 and 2, and it is thus possible, as seen in Figure 4, to fold down the parts 16 of the flap 8 ', defined by the cutting lines 14 and the fold lines 15, between the bottles 17, to wedge them in position and prevent them from colliding during transport and handling.

  This use of the body according to the invention is another object of this invention.

  FIG. 5 illustrates another embodiment of the invention, for an application similar to that of the box of FIG. 4.

  In this embodiment, the joining strip 5 adjacent to the wall 4 and which is bonded against the wall 1 to secure these two walls is extended by portions of strips 18 and 18 'contiguous to the corresponding lateral edge of the flaps 9 and 9 and intended to be glued against the outer flaps 6 and 6 '. The portion 18 'is not adjacent to the internal flap 8' but, in the same way that the flaps 6-9 are adjacent to each other along part of their lateral edges contiguous to and articulated by a fold line from the adjacent wall, the strip 18 is adjacent to the panel 9 along part of its lateral edge from the adjoining wall 4 and is articulated on this flap by a fold line disposed in a plane perpendicular to this wall. As the strip 18 is glued against the outer flap 6, the flap 9 is in all respects comparable to the flap 7 and a second oblique fold line 19 can be formed in this flap 9 from the end of the fold line by which it is connected to the wall 4, so as to fold the two parts 9a, 9b, limited by the lines 12 and 19 and the contiguous edges of the flap 9 against it, forming bellows, when the flaps 6- 9 are folded perpendicular to the adjoining walls.

  FIG. 6 illustrates another embodiment of the box according to the invention, intended for the same application as the box of FIG. 4.

  In this embodiment, there are the same walls 1-3 and the same flaps 6-8 and 6 '- 7' as before, but the fourth wall and the internal flaps which are adjacent thereto are no longer constituted respectively of a single panel, but two portions of panels assembled together by gluing, as in the packaging bearing the reference 0230 in the International Code for Carton packaging mentioned above, this method of assembly being called "S junction" in the art .

  More specifically, the fourth wall comprises a panel 20a hinged to the wall 2 by a fold line parallel to those by which the other walls are hinged together, and a panel 20b hinged to the panel 1 by a parallel fold line to previous ones. Similarly, on these panels 20a and 20b are hinged by fold lines disposed in the same plane as those by which the flaps 6, 7 and 8 are articulated on the associated walls, two portions 21a, 21b of an internal flap of a conventional type, that is to say whose lateral edges are not adjacent to the outer flaps 6 ', 7' contiguous, and two parts 22a, 22b of an inner flap according to the invention, c ' that is to say which are adjacent along part of their lateral edges to the outer flaps 6, 7 contiguous and which are hinged to them by a fold line disposed in a plane perpendicular to the walls adjacent to these flaps. As indicated above, the portions 20a, 21a and 22a are respectively bonded to the portions 20b, 21b and 22b, following a bonding zone shown in gray in the drawing.

  The internal flap constituted by the parts 22a and 22b thus assembled is, like the internal flap 8, adjoining the two adjacent outer flaps and, like this one, it can therefore comprise two oblique fold lines from each of its corners. contiguous to these flaps. It may also comprise two oblique fold lines from each of these corners, one of these lines extending, as shown in the drawings, partly on the part 22a and partly on the part 22b. It is thus possible to fold the inner flap "composite" on itself, like the flap 8, forming two bellows, when the different flaps are folded perpendicular to the adjacent walls.

  Whatever the embodiment of the invention described above, note the simplicity of the starting blanks and the ease with which the flap box can be made from them.

Claims (9)

  1. Flap box made of a semi-rigid material such as cardboard or corrugated board, characterized in that: - the lateral edges of the internal flaps (8, 9) are adjacent, along at least part of their length from of the wall (3,4) associated with the corresponding edge (s) of the outer flaps (6,7) contiguous and are articulated thereon by a fold line disposed in a plane perpendicular to the associated wall and passing between these edges; to - from the corner or corners of these internal flaps (8, 9) contiguous to the associated wall and the outer flaps (6, 7) contiguous extends obliquely on these internal flaps, a fold line (10, 11, 12) forming with the contiguous side edge an angle such that the portion of the inner flap disposed between this oblique fold line and the adjacent side edge can be folded over the rest of the inner flap forming a bellows, when the different flaps ( 6, 9) are folded perpendicularly to the associated walls (1-4).   2.
