Abstract

The method involves providing a digital color image of a subject or an object, and reducing the definition level and resolution of the image to obtain a small pixel matrix. A plate (3) with mounting prongs (4) is provided, where the prongs are disposed along a grid (Q) identical to the matrix. Stones with color shade similar to that of corresponding pixel in the matrix are set in each of several tiles of the grid. An independent claim is also included for a ring or pendant.

Description

The invention relates to the field of jewelery and more particularly

  a process for making a jewel in the form of a ring or a pendant with a tray covered with precious stones, stones or synthetic stones assembled to represent in particular the

portrait of a person.

  For this purpose the invention relates to a method for manufacturing a jewel, characterized in that it consists in the following steps: - providing a digital color image of a subject or an object; Lowering the level of definition and resolution of the digital image to obtain a small matrix of pixels; - Provide a plate of a ring or a pendant whose support surface is provided with crimping claws arranged in a grid identical to the matrix of pixels; - Crimp in each grid tile a stone whose color shade is close to that of the corresponding pixel in the matrix of pixels.

  The invention extends to a ring or pendant with gemstones having a diameter of about 2 mm disposed on the ring or pendant tray according to the above method.

  The method according to the invention is described below in detail in connection with figures which represent an example of implementation.

  Figure 1 schematically shows a small matrix of pixels. Figure 2 schematically shows a plate of a ring.

  In FIG. 1, there is shown a small matrix 1 of 20 by 30 color pixels obtained by lowering the level of definition (number of pixels) and resolution (number of pixels per unit length) of a digital image (generally an image having a definition of the order of 300 by 300) of a subject or object formed with a digital camera or the like. In this case, the digital image is a portrait. The reduction of the definition of the image can be done conventionally by averaging groups of pixels.

  Figure 2 shows a partial top view of a metal plate 3 of a ring or a pendant, here a rectangular shaped tray with a size of about 1 cm by 1.5 cm.

  As can be seen in FIG. 2, the upper surface of the plate is provided with crimping claws 4 arranged in a pattern defining a grid Q of 20 by tiles identical to the matrix 1 of FIG.

  It should be understood that four crimping claws are disposed at the four corners of each grid tile and each tile defines a substantially pyramidal shaped housing 5 for receiving a stone whose base has a corresponding shape.

  The process according to the invention consists in fixing each stone 3i of the grid in a crimping stone 6, in particular a gemstone (precious stone or fine stone) or a synthetic stone, whose color shade is identical to that of the pixel li corresponding in the matrix of pixels 1 so as to reproduce the illustration that appears in the matrix 1.

  As is known, crimping a stone 6 is carried out by pushing each claw 4 on the upper surface of the stone using a suitable tool.

  With the method according to the invention, a jewel such as a ring or a pendant is obtained which is illustrated by a portrait of precious stones for example. In particular, the best aspect of this jewel can be obtained with gemstones 6 cut with a diameter of about mm.

  One can easily imagine, without departing from the scope of the invention, that the illustration of the jewel can also consist in the photograph of any object, for example a painting, the photograph of an animal, etc ... .

3 claims   1) A method for manufacturing a jewel, characterized in that it consists in the following steps: - providing a digital image in color of a subject or an object; - lowering the definition and resolution level of the digital image to obtain a small pixel array (1); providing a plate (3) of a ring or a pendant whose support surface is provided with crimping claws (4) arranged in a grid (Q) identical to the matrix of pixels; - Crimp in each tile (3i) of the grid a stone (6) whose color shade is close to that of the corresponding pixel (1 i) in the matrix of pixels.   2) The method of claim 1, wherein the digital image is a portrait.   3) Method according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the stone (6) is a gemstone or a synthetic stone.   4) Method according to one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the matrix or the grid have a size of about 20 by 30.   5) Ring or pendant comprising stones (6) arranged on the plate of the ring or the pendant according to the method of claims 1 to 4.   6) Ring according to claim 5, wherein each stone is a gemstone which has a diameter of about 1 / 2mm.
