Abstract

The ladder has a locking unit with a stop pin moving around an axis parallel to bars of upper and lower ladder units (1, 2) between locking and unobtrusive positions. The bar of unit (2) presses against the pin in the former position and the bar of unit (1) is allowed to pass in the latter position. The pin is in locking and unobtrusive positions by gravity and by the action of hand or feet of an operator, respectively.

Description

ECHELLE COULISSANTE
SLIDING LADDER
The present invention relates to a sliding ladder, and more particularly such a ladder of the type comprising at least one lower ladder element and one upper ladder element arranged to slide relative to the lower ladder element, and means for locking of the relative movement of the two scale elements.
Such scales are known which can be transformed into two or three planes (sliding and in inverted V for the two-plane scale and in inverted Y for the three-plane scale).
The standards in force impose a locking of the elements between them when they are used on a sliding ladder. This locking is currently done at the base of the sliding element, generally the least wide, in order to guarantee the impossibility of an accidental detachment.
There is currently known either an automatic locking or a manual locking, but in both cases the unlocking is manual, which requires on the part of the operator a squatting or leaning forward movement to unlock the elements. This results in low back pain and unnecessary fatigue.
The present invention aims to overcome these drawbacks.
More particularly, the object of the invention is to provide a sliding ladder the locking of which is automatic and the unlocking of which can be done either by hand or by foot, so as to allow manipulation of the ladder without having to stoop or to bend over.
To this end, the subject of the invention is a sliding scale comprising at least one lower scale element and an upper scale element arranged to slide relative to the lower scale element, and means for locking the movement. relative of the two scale elements, characterized in that said locking means comprise a finger mounted on said upper element, movable in rotation about an axis parallel to the bars of said elements between a locking position where a bar of the lower element can come to bear on said finger and a retracted position where it allows the passage of the bars of the other element, said finger being arranged to come into locking position by gravity and in retracted position by action of the hand or the foot of an operator.
In a particular embodiment, a stop is provided to limit the rotation of said finger slightly beyond the locking position on the side opposite the erased position.
Also in a particular embodiment, the end of said finger forms a support stop.
A particular embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of nonlimiting example, with reference to the appended schematic drawings in which FIG. 1 is a partial view in longitudinal section of a ladder according to the invention in position locking; - Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 of the ladder in the unlocked position; - Figure 3 illustrates the unlocking of the ladder at the foot; and - Figure 4 illustrates the unlocking of the ladder by hand.
We see in Figures 1 and 2 a sliding ladder formed by an upper ladder element 1 and a lower ladder element 2, each element being composed of two uprights 3 and bars 4. Known means, not shown , for example a hook secured to the element 1 arranged to bear on a bar of the element 2, make it possible to adjust the position of the element 1 relative to the element 2.
One of the uprights of the ladder element 1 has an axis 5 parallel to the bars 4, on which a locking finger 6 is mounted.
In the locking position of FIG. 1, it can be seen that the upper end 7 of the finger 6, in the form of a support stop, protrudes from the upright 3 of the element 1 in the direction of the element 2. In this position , it is not possible to raise the element 1 and therefore to unhook this element from the element 2.
In the deleted position of FIG. 2, the upper end of the finger 6 abuts against an upright of the element 1 and no longer opposes the displacement of the element 1 relative to the element 2.
The position of the center of gravity of the finger 6 relative to the axis 5 is such that, when the scale is in the normal position of use, the finger comes by gravity into the locking position of FIG. 1.
To come to the unlocked position, one can, against the action of gravity, either press, foot or hand depending on the height of the element 1, on the lower end 8 of the finger 6 towards the element 2, or press with your hand in the opposite direction on the upper end of finger 6.
A stop 9 is mounted on the element 1 to prevent the finger 6 from substantially exceeding its locking position from its erased position in the event that it is not retained by a bar 4 of the ladder element 2.
Figures 3 and 4 illustrate the deployment of the ladder which has just been described.
Initially (Figure 3), the operator unlocks the device with his foot, so without bending over. He can then mount the element 1, by tilting it in a known manner with respect to the element 2, for example from a height of the order of 1.5 meters and hang the element 1 from the element 2 , the locking by the finger 6 is effected automatically by gravity.
The operator can then (FIG. 4) unlock the finger 6 with his hand, then tilt the element 1 again relative to the element 2 and continue the rise of the element 1.
The ladder is folded up using the reverse movements.
