These means for holding the ball joint comprise a member (18) for setting the ball joint displaceable in a guide sheath (16), carried by the sleeve (12), intended to at least partially surround the ball. Preferably, the wedging member (18) is connected to a strap (28) for adjusting the position provided with two ends (28A, 28B) external to the sheath (16) carrying releasable means (30A, 30B, 32A, 32B) on the sheath (12), such as mobile self-gripping strips (30A, 30B) and fixed strips (32A, 32B).

Description

The present invention relates to an improved orthopedic knee brace. It applies in particular to an orthopedic knee brace of the type comprising a sheath, intended to envelop the knee of a patient, bearing means for holding the kneecap.

<B> us </ b> 135 and WO-95 32 690 each describe a toggle joint of this type in which the patella holding means comprise a padded fixed bead. The shape of this bead being final, it is not possible to obtain optimal adaptation of the knee to various pathologies.

The invention aims to provide an orthopedic knee brace adaptable to various pathologies.

Indeed, the subject of the invention is an orthopedic knee brace of the type mentioned above, characterized in that the means for holding the ball joint comprise a wedge member of the ball joint displaceable in a guide sheath carried by the sheath, intended to at least partially surround the patella.

According to other features of this orthopedic knee brace: - the wedging member is connected to a position adjustment strap provided with two ends external to the sheath carrying releasable means of attachment on the sheath; the hooking means of the adjustment strap comprise a mobile self-gripping strip, carried by each end of the strap, cooperating with a corresponding fixed self-gripping strip, carrying the sheath; - Each fixed Velcro strip extends substantially vertically, preferably along a flexible rib sleeve - adjustment strap is tubular, the wedging member being housed in this strap; - The wedging member is immobilized longitudinally in the tubular strap by two sewn pinches of the strap; - The wedging member has a hardness of between 50 and shores; - The wedging member is silicone; - The sheath has a vertical upper notch assistance to the establishment of the toggle provided with closing means after implementation of the toggle joint; - Closing means comprise a zipper; - Sheath comprises a flexible tubular casing, preferably woven, the guide sheath being delimited by a lining internal to the casing and substantially circular seams interconnecting the casing and lining.

The invention will be better understood on reading the description which follows, given solely by way of example and with reference to the drawings in which: - Figure 1 front view in perspective of a toggle joint according to the invention; - Figure 2 rear view in perspective of the toggle shown in Figure 1; - Figure 3 detail view, with a cutaway, the circled portion 3 of Figure 1; - Figure 4 detail view in plan, with a tear, of the adjusting strap of the position of the wedging member; - Figure 5 is a schematic vertical sectional view of the toggle shown in Figures 1 and 2.

FIGS. 1, 2 and 5 show a toggle joint according to the invention designated by the general reference 0.

In what follows, lower, upper, front and back orientations will be considered in relation to the usual orientations of a patient wearing the toggle joint 10.

In conventional manner, the knee brace 10 comprises a sheath 12 intended to enclose the knee G of a patient shown in phantom in FIG. 5. This sheath 12 comprises a flexible tubular casing 14, preferably woven using known materials. in particular cotton yarns and elastomer giving at least some parts of the sheath 1 an ability to elastic deformation radial and axial.

The density and the structure of the mesh of the tubular envelope 14 preferably vary according to the functionalities specific to the different zones of this envelope 14. In particular, the mesh density of the rear zone Z1 of the tubular envelope 14 intended to be in contact with the popliteal fossa of the patient is reduced in particular with respect to the mesh upper and lower adjacent areas.

The sheath 12 carries means 16 for holding the patella R of the knee, comprising a member 18 for wedging this ball that can be displaced in a guide sheath 20 carried by the sheath 12, intended to at least partially surround the patella R (see FIGS. 4 and 5).

The wedging member 18, generally in the form of a flexible bead, is capable of being curved around the ball joint. Preferably, the wedging member 18 has a hardness of between 50 and 70 shores. The wedging member 18 is for example silicone. In the example described, the guide sheath 20 is delimited by a lining 22 internal to the casing 14 and seams 24,26 interconnecting the casing 14 and the liner 22. These seams 24,26 are substantially circular manner to extend around the zone Z2 of the sleeve 12 intended to be in contact with the ball. The location of the seams 24, 26 on the sheath 12 is indicated in the figure by straight line segments in phantom.

For the adjustment of its position in the sheath 20, the wedging member 18 connected to a strap 28 provided with two ends 28A, 28B, external to the sheath carrying releasable hooking means on the sheath 12. These means of fastening comprise for example a self-gripping band 30A, sewn on each end 28A, 28B of the strap, cooperating with a fixed self-gripping strip 32A, 328 corresponding sewn on the sheath 12.

Each fixed self-gripping strip 32A, 32B extends substantially vertically, preferably along at least one flexible whale 34 of the sheath interposed between the casing 14 and the fixed self-gripping strip 32A, 32B. In the illustrated example (see Figure 3), each fixed self-gripping strip 32A, 328 extends along two whales 34 juxtaposed, each whale 34 consisting of metal turns deployed flat in the longitudinal direction of the whale.

adjusting strap 28, for example of woven material, preferably tubular, the wedging member 18 being housed in this strap. The wedging member 1 immobilized longitudinally in the strap 28 by two pinches stitched 36 this strap. The location of these nips 36,38 on the strap is indicated in Figure 4 by straight segments in phantom.

The sheath 12 comprises an upper vertical notch 40 for assisting the knee pad provided with closure means such as a slide fastener. The toggle joint 10 according to the invention is simple to put in place. First of all, the user puts the knee joint 10 around the knee, the zipper 42 being open to facilitate the installation of this toggle joint 10. Then, after closing the slideway 42, the user sets the position of the wedging member 18 around the patella, depending on the pathology, to obtain a maintenance of the most effective patella possible. This adjustment is effected by acting on the ends 28A, 28B of strap, accessible outside the sheath 20. Finally, the wedging member 18 immobilized in the desired position by hooking the ends 28A, 28B of the strap on the sleeve 12 by means of the mobile self-gripping strips 30A, 30B and fixed 32A, 32B.
