Un parasol comprend, de façon connue, un mât vertical à proximité de l'extrémité supérieure duquel est monté un support pour une toile de protection solaire. De façon traditionnelle, un parasol comprend une douille montée coulissante le long du mât, cette douille portant, de façon articulée, des bras dont les autres extrémités sont articulées sur des bras eux-mmes articulés à l'extrémité supérieure du mât, et destinés à mettre en tension la toile.
