Abstract

The cover for a motor vehicle seat has a fold line (8) to stow the cover (7) into the padding. The padding has a recess (11) opening to its front face and aligned with the fold line. A folding wire (12) partially fits into the padding. The wire is made of an inextensible organic material and the section fitting into the padding is held taut by it.

MOTOR VEHICLE SEAT

  The present invention relates to a device for forming at least one return line of a covering cap in a padding of a seat, in particular for

motor vehicle.

  In such seats, the padding is usually made of synthetic foam and comprises a front carrying face which is covered with the covering cap, for example by the traditional padding technique. This technique consists in linking the cap to the padding mechanically using a device which consists of: - at least one recess made in the thickness of

  the padding and which opens onto the front face thereof

  ci, in correspondence of at least one return line, - at least one filiform return element which comprises at least a first section incorporated into the padding and at least a second section appearing locally in the bottom of said at least one recess, - and means for hooking the covering cap on said at least one second section of the return element to form said at least one line of

reminder.

  The threadlike return elements usually encountered take the form of a metal or plastic rod. This rod must be shaped on special machines before being incorporated into the

padding.

  This type of rod has the disadvantage of having to be shaped on a special machine before injecting the foam of the padding and of being unable to be recycled

at the same time as this one.

  The object of the present invention is to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks by providing a device in which the return element can be easily adapted to the shapes of the return lines produced in the padding and in which the return element can be transformed

  simultaneously with this padding.

  To this end, according to the invention, the device for forming at least one return line of a covering cap of the aforementioned type, is essentially characterized in that said at least one return element is made of inextensible organic material and in that the synthetic foam of the padding cooperates intimately with said at least one first section of the return element, so that the second section is under tension in the bottom of said at least one recess and the first section is loose in the foam. Thus, the return element can be recycled by being crushed simultaneously with the synthetic foam padding, and be easily shaped to the shape of the return lines to be produced, regardless of the type of seat. The device according to the invention may optionally further include one or more of the following characteristics: - the return element is made of twisted paper forming a cord; - The synthetic foam infiltrates into said at least one first section of twisted paper of the return element, so that the latter is firmly anchored in the foam; - a single return element is incorporated into the foam, extending in correspondence of said at least one return line; - the diameter of the cord is between 3 and 5 mm approximately; and - at least one fixing strip is integral with the cap in correspondence of said at least one return line and in which is formed at least one hole opposite the recess, the padding having at least one slot in correspondence of said at least one return line and into which the fixing strip penetrates, the hooking means comprising at least one hook passed

  in the hole and on the return element.

  An exemplary embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: - Figure 1 is a perspective view of a vehicle seat with parts in partial section, and provided with a following device the present invention; and - Figure 2 is an enlarged view of a section of

  the return element of the device in FIG. 1.

  A vehicle seat 1 is shown in Figure 1 and comprises, in a manner known per se, a seat 2 and a backrest. 3 each with foam padding

  Each padding 4 has a rear face 5 fixed to a metal frame (not shown) and a

  carrying front face 6 covered by a cover 7.

  In Figure 1, the seat back 3 is partially shown in section in order to show

  the device for forming the return lines 8.

  The reminder lines 8 of the file 3 are horizontal and vertical while the reminder lines 8

  of the seat 2 are longitudinal and transverse.

  The foam padding 4 is produced with several slots 10 which open towards the front face 6 and which extend over a certain thickness inside this padding. These slots are located in correspondence

  with extension lines 8 to form.

  Each of the slots 10 has enlargements 11 regularly spaced along the length of these slots. The enlargements form deep recesses

greater than that of the slots 10.

  Behind the slots 10 are located one or more return elements 12 embedded in the synthetic foam. These return elements 12 are located substantially at the same depth as the bottom of the recesses 11 so that they have first sections 13 incorporated in the padding and second sections 14 appearing

  locally in the bottom of said recesses 11.

  At the level of the return lines 8, the cover 7 is integral with a fixing strip 15 which penetrates inside the slots 10 and which has holes 16

  intended to be opposite the recesses 11.

  Hooking means 20 of the covering cap 7 on the return elements 12 consist of hooks 21 passed through the holes 16 and on the second

  sections 14 of the return elements 12.

  During the manufacture of the padding 4 by injection of foam into an injection mold, the return elements 12 are previously placed in the mold

  to be located at the extension lines 8.

  According to the present invention, the return elements 12 are threadlike and are made of an inextensible organic material such as paper. The paper is braided for

  form a cord with a diameter of the order of 3 to 5 mm.

  This cord is placed in the mold so that the second sections 14 intended to come opposite the bottom of the recesses 11 are stretched (by means of pliers not shown) while the first sections 13 intended to be embedded in the synthetic foam are cowards and a

any length.

  During injection, the polyurethane foam infiltrates into the first sections 13 so that the paper braid is stiffened and is an integral part of the padding to be irremovable. The second sections 14 of the braid are stretched at the bottom of the recesses 11, the cap 7 is thus effectively recalled in the padding

4 by means of hooks 21.

  Preferably, the return elements 12 consist of a single cord which is shaped to follow the outline of all of the return lines 8 of the padding 4. Prior to injection, the flexibility of the cord allows a setting quick, without

need special machine.

  In addition, the material used to manufacture the return element allows simultaneous recycling by

  grinding the padding and the return element.

  Of course, it is understood that one can use other materials than paper to make the insert as long as it can be ground with synthetic foam.

Claims (6)

  1. Device for forming at least one return line (8) of a covering cap (7) in a padding (4) of a seat, the padding (4) being made of synthetic foam and comprising a front face carrying (6), the device comprising: - at least one recess (11) which is formed in the thickness of the padding (4) and which opens onto the front face (6), in correspondence with said at least one line return (8), - at least one threadlike return element (12) which comprises at least a first section (13) incorporated into the padding (4) and at least a second section (14) appearing locally in the bottom of said au at least one recess (11), - and hooking means (20) of the covering cap (7) on said at least one second section (14) of the return element (12) to form said at least one return line (8), characterized in that said at least one return element (12) is made of inextensible organic material and e n that the synthetic foam of the padding (4) cooperates intimately with said at least one first section (13) of the return element (12), so that the second section (14) is under tension in the bottom of said at least one recess (11) and the first section (13) is loose in the foam. 2. Device according to claim 1, wherein the return element (12) is made of twisted paper forming a cord.   3. Device according to claim 2, wherein the synthetic foam infiltrates said at least one first section (13) of twisted paper of the return element (12), so that the latter is firmly anchored in the foam. 4. Device according to claim 2 or 3, wherein a single return element (12) is incorporated into the foam extending in correspondence with said at least a reminder line (8).   5. Device according to any one of   claims 2 to 4, wherein the diameter of the   cord is between 3 and 5 mm approximately.   6. Device according to any one of   claims 2 to 5, wherein at least one strip of   fixing (15) is integral with the cap (7) in correspondence of said at least one return line (8) and in which is formed at least one hole (16) facing the recess (11), the padding ( 4) having at least one slot (10) corresponding to said at least one return line (8) and into which the fixing strip (15) penetrates, the hooking means (20) comprising at least one hook (21) passed through the hole (16) and onto the element of reminder (12).
