Description

Folded tube for a heat exchanger, in particular for a motor vehicle
The invention relates to the field of heat exchangers, in particular of a motor vehicle, and more precisely the folded tubes used in certain types of heat exchangers of technology known as "tube-insert".

This invention relates more particularly to tubes comprising a metal plate (or core) which has internal and external faces parallel to each other and has a central part terminated by two longitudinal edges parallel to each other. The metal wall is intended to be folded, with the meeting of the two longitudinal edges, so that, on the one hand, their external faces are parallel to each other and in contact, and on the other hand, that their end faces contact the internal face of the central part, thus delimiting two independent longitudinal cavities in which a fluid, for example refrigerant, can circulate.

The folded tubes of this type are usually coated on their outer face with a layer of solder which is intended to secure the longitudinal edges to each other and to the central part, when passing through a brazing furnace.

However, during this brazing operation, the brazing which is on the external faces of the longitudinal edges can diffuse in the direction of the spacers, in particular. The distance which then separates the external faces of the two longitudinal edges can locally become substantially equal to twice the initial thickness of the brazing layer, and consequently the sealing of the tubes can no longer be ensured. This phenomenon is further increased at the openings of the manifolds through which the transverse ends of the tubes pass.

Consequently, an object of the invention is to provide a tube for a heat exchanger which does not have the above-mentioned drawback.

To this end, the invention provides a tube of the type described in the introduction, in which only the internal face of the plate is covered, before brazing, with a layer of brazing, which preferably consists of an aluminum alloy and of silicon.

The Applicant has in fact noticed that, surprisingly, by coating only the internal face of the bent tubes, the joining of their longitudinal edges was very significantly improved. One explanation would consist in the fact that in the absence of plating (brazing layer), the external faces of the longitudinal edges of a tube which has just been bent are almost in contact with one another. The space to be filled between said edges then becoming extremely reduced, the solder present on the internal faces of the central part and of the longitudinal edges of the tube plate is sufficient to ensure the tight filling, the solder migrating between the edges by capillarity.

In an application to a brazed heat exchanger, in particular for a motor vehicle, the joining of the transverse ends of the tubes bent in the transverse openings of a collector plate of the heat exchanger is also improved because the space to be filled is markedly reduced.

Advantageously, an auxiliary layer, for example of the anticorrosive type, can be provided between the internal face of a tube plate and the solder layer.

Preferably, such an anticorrosive auxiliary layer consists of an aluminum and zinc alloy.

The invention applies more particularly to tubes made of aluminum, or of an aluminum alloy.

In the description which follows, given by way of example, reference is made to the appended drawings, in which - FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic cross-section view of a tube-plate coated on its internal face with a single layer of solder, before folding; - Figure 2 is a schematic cross-sectional view of a tube plate coated on its internal face with an auxiliary layer and a layer of solder, before folding; - Figure 3 illustrates, in a cross-sectional view, the tube plate of Figure 1 after folding; - Figure 4 schematically illustrates part of a heat exchanger fitted with tubes according to the invention; and - Figure 5 is an enlargement of part of Figure 4, in a cross-sectional view.

The invention relates to bent tubes with two cavities suitable for use in brazed heat exchangers, such as for example heating radiators, cooling radiators, cooling radiators of supercharging circuits (compact or surface), or else still condensers. Such exchangers are produced in a technology called "tube-spacer", preferably.

As is partially illustrated in FIG. 5, a heat exchanger conventionally comprises a multiplicity of longitudinal tubes 1 mounted between two manifolds 2 placed in transverse positions and in which a fluid, such as a refrigerant, circulates. The tubes 1 are separated from each other by spacers 3, which in the example illustrated are placed in a transverse position relative to the longitudinal axis of the tubes.

The same applies to the tubes 1 and the manifold 2.

The various constituents of such a heat exchanger, to be joined, are first assembled, then their joining is ensured by passing through a brazing oven.

To produce a tube 1 according to the invention, a metal plate 4 is preferably used, made of aluminum, as indicated above, and more preferably still in an aluminum alloy of the so-called "4000" series. This metal plate 4 also called core is of generally parallelepiped shape. More precisely, this plate is rectangular in shape, and consequently has two long sides called "longitudinal edges" 5 and two short sides called "transverse edges" 6 perpendicular to the longitudinal edges 5.

The metal plate 4 comprises a so-called "external" face 7 and a so-called "internal" face 8 parallel to the external face and opposite to it. The justification of the qualifiers internal and external will be given below.

According to the invention, the internal face 8 is coated with a brazing layer also called plating layer 9. Only this internal face 8 receives the plating 9 which is preferably made of an aluminum and silicon alloy.

As an alternative, as illustrated in FIG. 2, an auxiliary layer 10 can be provided between the internal face 8 and the solder or plating layer 9 intended, for example, to provide anti-corrosion protection to the plate 4. Such a layer 10 is preferably made of an aluminum and zinc alloy.

The metal plate 4, coated on its only internal face 8 with a layer of solder 9, is then folded so that its internal face delimits two independent longitudinal cavities 11-1 and 11-2.

To allow the constitution of these two independent cavities 11-1 and 11-2, the two longitudinal edges 5 of the metal plate 4 are folded back so that they are substantially perpendicular to the central part 12 of this same plate 4, and that the respective external faces 7 of these two longitudinal edges 5 are substantially in contact with one another. In addition, to ensure independence between the two cavities 11-1 and 11-2, the end faces 13 of the longitudinal edges 5 (substantially perpendicular to the internal 8 and external 7 faces) are substantially in contact with the solder layer. 9 placed on the internal face 8 of the central part 12 of the plate 4.

The sealing edges of the longitudinal edges 5 of a tube-plate thus formed, as well as that of the end faces 13 of these same longitudinal edges and of the internal face 8 of its central part 12, are provided by passing through an oven. soldering.

More specifically, when the tubes according to the invention are used in a heat exchanger, of the type partially illustrated in FIG. 4, this connection by brazing takes place after assembly of the various constituents of the heat exchanger which must be united to each other. This mainly concerns the folded tubes 1, the spacers 3 placed between these folded tubes 1, and the manifold plate 14 of the manifold 2. This manifold plate 14 has a multiplicity of shaped transverse openings 15, parallel to each other and intended to each receive a transverse end (or transverse edge) 6 of a bent tube 1.

To allow the interleaving of the spacers 3 on the external faces 7 of the bent tubes 1, each spacer is entirely coated with a layer of solder (or plating), on its two faces. Likewise, to allow the transverse ends 6 of the bent tubes 1 and the collector plate 14 to be joined at the openings 15, the collector plate 14 comprises on one of its faces a layer of solder (or plating), the face coated with veneer depending on the orientation of the collars formed at the openings 15 in order to receive the transverse ends 6 of the tubes with sealing.

Once the elements to be brazed have been assembled to each other, they are placed in a brazing furnace. During this brazing operation, the internal brazing layer 9 which is placed on the internal face 8 of a bent tube 1 will migrate by capillarity in the reduced spaces which are, on the one hand, between the external faces 7 two longitudinal edges 5, and on the other hand, between the end faces 13 of these same longitudinal edges 5 and the internal face 8 of the central part 12 of the folded tube.

The filling of the rest of this furrow 16, in particular at a opening 15 of the collecting plate 14 is ensured by the diffusion of part of the veneer placed on the spacers 3.

The invention is not limited to the embodiment described above, by way of example, but it extends to other variants which a person skilled in the art may develop within the framework of the claims below .
