Abstract

The taximeter has a timer unit (11) to enable operation of the taximeter over a predetermined time interval which is equal to or greater than the payment interval, typically one month and ten days for monthly rental. The timer is reset by entry of a code supplied by the owner of the taximeter. The code is entered at a keyboard (12) fitted to the taximeter. At the end of the allowed time interval the taximeter reverts to the 'free' position, and remains there till the person renting the taximeter enters the enabling code. The codes may be grouped into families with each taximeter accepting only a particular family of codes.
