Abstract

Ferritic steel contains by weight less than 0.02% carbon, 0.3-1.5% manganese, less than 0.3% silicon, 0.04-0.1% phosphorous, less than 0.01% sulphur, 0.2-0.5% copper and less than 0.2% nickel. Maximum proportions of optional ingredients are 0.08% niobium, 0.05% titanium and 0.3% molybdenum. The rest is iron and impurities. Also claimed is preparing the steel under vacuum, hot rolling it at over 850 degrees C, cooling to 450-650 degrees C and winding the resulting steel strip into a reel.
