Abstract

The protective packaging for an article which is basically cubic in shape, e.g. a domestic appliance such as a fitted cooker, consists of a cage (2) with a top (4), a bottom (3) and four corner supports (5) and an outer layer of a covering material. The top and bottom of the cage form a first set of identical pieces, while the four corner supports form a second, and are shaped so that can be adapted to fit different types of appliances. Both sets of cage components are made from expanded polystyrene, and the top and bottom are covered with a polystyrene film. Once the appliance has been fitted with the cage it can be packed in a cardboard box or covered with a thermo-shrink plastic film. The protective packaging gives improved protection for appliances with fragile components, e.g. glass doors.

Il parait évident que cette porte constitue la partie la plus fragile du four et qu'elle doit être parfàitement protégée par le dispositif d'emballage du four pour éviter tout risque de détérioration lors de sa manutention, notamment par des chariots de manutention à pinces. Les dispositifs d'emballage comportent habituellement une cage de protection en polystyrène constituée de plusieurs pièces adaptées à la forme, au profil et au volume de la porte du four. Par conséquent, ce type d'emballage engendre un coût de fabrication élevé vu qu'il nécessite un moule pour chaque type de porte. De plus, le stockage et la gestion du stock sont d'autant plus complexes et coûteux qu'il y a de types de porte. Par ailleurs, en fin de montage des appareils à emballer, il est nécessaire de prévoir un poste de manutention pour prélever l'appareil de la ligne d'assemblage et pour le poser dans son dispositif d'emballage.
