Le problème avec ce type de pose manuelle, c'est que l'on risque d'endommager les pièces réfractaires et que la pose n'est pas toujours précise et propre. De plus, le poseur est obligé de maintenir les pièces réfractaires contre l'écran de manière à ce que la pâte à maçonner prenne, ce qui engendre une perte de temps, oblige l'utilisation d'une main d'oeuvre plus conséquente d'où une augmentation du coût du chantier. Enfin, cette pose n'est pas "confortable" pour le poseur car elle l'oblige à appuyer sur la pièce réfractaire sans réel point d'appui.
