Abstract

The speed detector consists of a sensor (18) which detects the passage of a metal marker (16) connected to the gearbox primary shaft (2). The detector is situated on the outside of the gearbox, mounted e.g. on a bracket (19), and is in contact with the gearbox's aluminium end cover (8). The rotary marker (16) is attached to the hub (14) of a gearbox synchroniser (13), e.g. by a nut (17), and the detector is either magnetic or operates by the Hall effect. During operation the rotation of the marker is picked up by the detector and transmitted to a controlled clutch computer or other processing unit.
