Abstract

The luggage container is carried by an articulated support bracket (5,6) which is attachable e.g. to the towing hitch of a vehicle. The bracket is pivotable in a horizontal plane, about one of two vertical axes (7), and in a vertical plane about a horizontal axis (10). The pivoting action of the bracket is controlled by releasable locking pins (9) which secure the bracket and a container mounted on it in a closed position. The rear face of the bracket may include a mounting point for the vehicle registration plate and rear lighting assembly. In the case of a rear-end collision, the locking pins break to allow the bracket to function as a shock absorbing mechanism.
