Abstract

The projectile comprises an inner weight (1) of lead or alloy, and a cylinder (2) of a natural or synthetic material, enclosed in a metal shell (3). The assembled components fit into a case with symmetrical flat faces. The weight and cylinder are held by crimped rings inside the metal shell, which can contain a smoke, tear-gas, incendiary, explosive or penetrating charge.

Description

The present invention relates to an under calibrated, jacketed and expansive projectile for smooth-barreled weapons.

The projectiles for smooth barrels are traditionally heavy and of a diameter equal or very close to that of the barrels in which they are used. Their large diameter does not allow them to be sleeved without risking the destruction of the barrels. In addition, their weight gives them only a low average speed.

Some projectiles are under calibrated but heavy. These reductions in size only lead to greater penetration. Not being jacketed, these projectiles release only a very small part of their energy for the purpose achieved.

The projectile device according to the invention overcomes these drawbacks. The projectile thus described, of a weight and a diameter smaller than that currently used, is animated by a much higher initial speed, conferring on it a kinetic energy jamals reached to date by a projectile for smooth cannons of the same caliber as well as a lethality equal to, or even higher than, that of hunting projectiles intended for striped weapons.

According to a first characteristic, under-calibration makes it possible to increase the density dc favoring the factors of external and terminal ballistics. According to a second characteristic, the jacket allows a controlled expansion of the projectile upon impact, thereby releasing all of its kinetic energy in the objective achieved. According to a third characteristic, the projectile is, during its loading, placed inside the bucket of a skirted flock of a shape similar to that used for loading lead shot cartridges. Its function is threefold: # To guide the precectile during its path in the barrel.

# Protect the barrel from the friction of the projectile during its passage in the barrel as well as
passage of the constriction so that no deformation, neither of the barrel, nor of the proctctilc is possible.

trajectoire vers le but visé, seul.
# Separate the projectile wad assembly. Indeed, the symmetrical flaps of the wad being more
as long as the projectile itself, they have an air resistance upon exit from the barrel
which opens the sides and allows the separation of projectile stuffing. CC projectile continues its
trajectory towards the goal, alone. The flock, due to its very low weight and its high resistance to
the air falls a few meters from the muzzle of the cannon.

The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention: # Figure 1 shows in section the anterior mass # Figure 2 shows in section the cylinder # Figure 3 shows in section the metal shell # Figure 4 represents the projectile # Figure 5 represents the fluff # Figure 6 shows in section the projectile according to the invention
With reference to these drawings, the projectile (4) is made up of three parts: # Of an anterior mass (1) of lead or of an alloy having an equal density or
higher than that of cylindrical-frustoconical lead.

favoriser l'expansion.
# A cylinder (2) of natural or synthetic material of low density but hardness
superior to that of lead or alloy constituting the anterior part (1) Its function is
to shift the center of gravity of the projectile forward in order to make it
stable as well as causing crushing, upon impact, of the anterior mass (1) to
foster expansion.

# A metal casing (3) of sheathing, prefragmented or not, made of copper or
steel or brass or any other alloy or metal inside which are retained
elements (1) and (2) by a first crimp located at the front of the projectile (4).
crimping, arranged on the body of the metal casing (3), secures the anterior mass (1)
with the entire projectile (4) upon impact
The three assembled and crimped elements constitute the projectile (4). When the cartridge is chapped, the projectile (4) is placed inside the bucket with symmetrical sides of a skirted bore (5). According to particular embodiments, the symmetrical sides of the bucket of the flock (5) can only be at least two.

According to variants not illustrated and due to its container configuration, the projectile (4) allows other applications than hunting, it can be intended for law enforcement purposes or for military purposes. Indeed, the envelope (3) can be equipped with various charges, either smoke, tear, explosive, incendiary or perforating. This list is not exhaustive.

le projectile suivant l'invention est particulièrement destiné à la chasse au grand gibier ainsi qu'à des fins militaires ou de maintien de l'ordre. the projectile according to the invention is particularly intended for hunting big game as well as for military or law enforcement purposes.
