Abstract

The absorbtion device for a torsion bar comprises an absorbing sheath (9) in the form of a flat elastomer enclosing the bar (7). The absorbing filling may be constrained on the bar by a rigid frame (2) which is preformed in the shape of an open cylinder. The cylindrical frame is mounted on the bar and fixed in place by screws, clips or similar fastenings.

Description

SHOCK ABSORBER FOR TORSION BAR
The present invention relates to a shock absorber device for a torsion bar, in particular for an automobile suspension.

The object of the present invention is to reduce parasitic noise caused by a mode of resonance of the torsion bar.

In the event of an annoying resonance mode of the torsion bar, one usually proceeds to mounting, on this bar, an additional mass or a tuned beater.

These solutions have drawbacks, respectively that of increasing the mass significantly, or that of the difficulty of adjustment, due to the sensitivity of the mixer.

According to the present invention, these drawbacks are remedied by enclosing the torsion bar in a damping sheath consisting for example of a layer of damped elastomer, itself advantageously constrained on the bar by a rigid frame of generally cylindrical shape.

Figure 1 of the accompanying drawing shows such a device in the open position before mounting on a torsion bar; and
Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view through line 11-11 of Figure 1, of the bar equipped with this device.

In these figures, the device is referenced globally at 1; it consists of a rigid sheet metal frame 2 internally coated with a layer of shock-absorbing elastomer 3 constituting what has been called above the "sheath", the frame having in the open state the shape of two semi-cylindrical grooves connected by folding tabs 4 and externally comprising fixing tabs 5 pierced with holes 6. This device can thus be conveniently mounted on the torsion bar 7, then be secured thereto by screw-nut assemblies 8 , 9 or the like, the screws being engaged in the holes 6 of the tabs. This method of screw fixing could be replaced by clipping or any other means. In any case, the dimensioning of the device is such that after fixing it encloses the bar 7.

The frame 2 can be obtained by any suitable means, for example by being stamped and cut from a thin flat sheet, preformed into an "open cylinder" so that the opening allows engagement around the bar 7, or still overmolded with elastomer, with or without adhesion.

This results in effective damping of the resonances of the bar likely to produce noise in the vehicle. The solution proposed by the invention is simple and low cost.
