Abstract
Description
Procédé de tannage de peaux.Process for tanning skins.
The present invention relates to a new process for tanning skins for the use of full-grain leathers or crusts obtained by this process in the manufacture of various products such as shoes, in particular safety shoes.
The industrial tanning processes known to date consist of a series of operations aimed at transforming the raw natural skin of animals into leather under the chemical action of tannins or organic or mineral agents, in particular chromium salts. The objective of the tanning processes is to make the skins rot-proof and to give the leather obtained properties of mechanical resistance, in particular of resistance to temperature, suitable for the subsequent manufacturing operations. Existing tanning processes allow this optimization of the properties of leather but prove to be unfavorable to the environment due to the use of metals which are difficult to recycle or eliminate such as chromium. In addition, the use of metals such as chromium sometimes causes, due to the allergenic action of the latter, reactions in the user. Finally, in traditional methods, tanning does not apply to crusts which constitute a by-product and therefore does not allow the recovery of the waste obtained after carrying out operations such as slitting and declutching.
The object of the present invention is to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks by proposing a process for tanning hides excluding any use of chromium so as to allow on the one hand the application of the process to crusts, on the other hand the recovery of the waste obtained after declutching from crusts or full-grain leathers.
To this end, the invention relates to a process for tanning hides and skins for the preparation of leathers used in particular for the manufacture of shoes, of the type consisting, before tanning, of washing the skins in a first step, known as quenching, then to subject them to a skinning operation to allow, in a subsequent slitting operation, the separation of the skins in leather on the grain side called hereinafter grain leather and in leather side flesh called crust, the fatty lime contained in the flower leathers being eliminated by neutralization by means of an acid during a so-called deliming operation while the crusts are subjected to a pickling action in order to allow their softening, characterized in that the subsequent tanning operation is carried out in two time, said operation comprising a pre-tanning step prior to the declutching operation known per se and a tanning step after the operation clutch release ion known per se, at least said pre-tanning step consisting in subjecting pickled crusts or loose hides to the chemical action of a mixture free of chromium sulphate.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is pretanned and optionally tanned using a mixture based on aldehydes, synthetic tannins and / or acrylic resins.
The invention also relates to a leather obtained by the implementation of the method, characterized in that it constitutes the flesh side or the flower side of a skin.
Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will become apparent on reading the description which follows and the attached single figure which represents a block diagram allowing the comparison between a process according to the state of the art and the process object of the invention. 'invention.
In accordance with the block diagram representing the processes known to date, the steps of which are mentioned in the left part of the figure, the tanning of leathers has hitherto required the implementation of twelve differentiated steps described below. This process resulted in the production of scraps that were difficult to reuse and the appearance of non-recoverable waste.
In accordance with the diagram shown in the single figure, in the processes known to date, the first operations carried out on rawhide bought in hair consist of washing and then depilating the skins in order to allow them to be slit, that is to say - tell the separation of the tripe skin into two parts, one of the sides said flesh side also called crust, the other side said flower side called leather flower. Step 1 groups these operations under the terms quenching, skinning and slitting. The quenching operation therefore consists in washing the skin. Once washed, this skin is subjected to a skinning operation which consists in carrying out, simultaneously or after depilation, an alkaline treatment, for example, so as to cause controlled hydrolysis of the skin in order to make the skin more receptive to subsequent operations, in particular after separation during the slitting operation, using a fatty lime milk.
We will first deal with the future of grain leather. In the conventional methods known to date, the grain leather is subjected to a deliming operation in a step 2. Deliming consists in fact of an action of neutralization, by an acid, of the lime contained in the skin so as to eliminate alkaline substances retained by the skin in guts. Once this operation has been carried out, the grain leather is subjected to a pickling action in a step 3a. This pickling operation, which aims to make the gut skin absorb varying amounts of acid while suppressing swelling, most generally in the presence of neutral salts, may consist, for example, in the passage of skins to fuller with dilute sulfuric acid and a little sea salt, then soaking these skins in a solution of concentrated sea salt. In a step 3b, the skin thus obtained is tanned using a chromium-based solution. In reality, this tanning step often uses a mixture based on alum, chromium salts and other organic or mineral agents so as to allow the transformation of the dermis into leather.
In step 4, the leathers thus obtained are wrung out so as to eliminate a certain number of elements from the solution used during step 3b. In a subsequent step, in this case step 5, a new slitting of the grain leather known as blue slitting is carried out, the leather being still wet and impregnated with chromium salts.
Then, in a step 6, the leathers thus obtained are sorted and in a step 7, a declutching operation is carried out.
In this step, the thickness of the leather is equalized so as to make this thickness uniform. Generally, this equalization is done by eliminating fine chips on the flesh side. During this stage, a certain amount of waste is produced. This waste is generally not reused due, in particular, to the significant presence of metals which would have to be separated by means of heavy treatments. In a subsequent step called step 9, the leather is neutralized by means of an appropriate chemical solution then again, in the next step numbered 10, a retanning operation is carried out using a solution of composition similar to that of step 3b. Then it is possible, optionally in a step 11, to dye the leather and, in a step 12, to carry out a feeding operation, steps 11 and 12 being operations to finish the leather. As for the crusts obtained during the implementation of this process, they are generally not reused.
By comparison with the method known to date, as described above, the method which is the subject of the invention has two essential differences. First of all, a step 3 which replaces steps 3a and 3b as described above and a step 8 which is inserted between steps 7 and 9 described above. The other changes are detail changes.
Step 3, characteristic of the new process, consists of pre-tanning loose grain leather. This pre-tanning step is carried out using a mixture based on aldehydes, acrylic resin and / or synthetic tannins. This step 3, constituted by the pretanning operation, actually replaces steps 3a and 3b of the prior process, said steps comprising a pickling operation and a chromium tanning operation. In addition to saving time, this unique operation has the advantage of avoiding the use of chromium, the drawbacks of which have been specified above. Until the declutching stage constituted by stage 7, the other stages of this process remain unchanged except for stage 5 in which the slitting is said to be white, due to the absence of chromium salts .
Les étapes suivantes 9 à 12 restent inchangées à l'exception de l'étape 10 où le retannage met en oeuvre une solution analogue à celle de l'étape 8.After the declutching which makes it possible to obtain recoverable waste unlike the process of the state of the art, in a step 8, the actual tanning operation of the grain leather is carried out. Again, this tanning operation uses a chemical solution based on aldehydes, synthetic tannins and / or preferably acrylic resins. The following steps 9 to 12 remain unchanged with the exception of step 10 where the retanning implements a solution similar to that of step 8.
The essential difference between this new process, object of the invention, and the old process also lies in the fact that the crusts can be treated in a similar way to grain leather as it appears on the diagram. Indeed, the split crusts can, if they undergo a pickling operation, be subsequently treated by means of operations in accordance with steps 3 to 12 of the process applied to grain leather. Again, in step 7 consisting of the declutching step, the waste obtained can be recovered. Thus, as the diagram of the single figure clearly shows, the second advantage of this new process lies, on the one hand, in the possibility of using pickled crusts, on the other hand, in obtaining recoverable waste after declutching operation, whether this operation applies to crusts or to grain leather.
