Abstract

The invention relates to the use of extracts of plants of the family of the genus Geum, especially of the species Geum urbanum L. (Rosaceae). The extract is preferably obtained by maceration in a water/glycol or water/alcohol or water/acetone mixture, and then purified. It is intended for the preparation of cosmetic and dermopharmaceutical compositions for its protease-inhibiting properties. It is rich in hydrolysable tannins and in ellagic acid and lacks proanthocyanidols. It possibly contains ascorbic acid. Such compositions display anti-aging activity, promote or regulate cutaneous cell renewal, protect against hair loss and possess anti-inflammatory and anti-free-radical activities.
