Abstract

The invention relates to the addition of a device (4) generating a mechanical force between the end-stops of dentofacial orthopaedic rods. In one embodiment, represented by Figure 4, the inner piston may consist of a tubular element (1) capable of containing the force generator. The latter may then consist of a coil spring (4) which can be adjusted by choosing the material and determining its active length. It may be guided in its axial operation by an inner spindle (5). In other embodiments, the spring may either be internal to the body of the piston and external to the piston or positioned externally around the body of the piston. The force generator may consist either of one or of a combination of a plurality of these springs. The combination of rod and springs, optionally wrapped in a protective sheath (7), allows, when mounted on dentofacial orthopaedic equipment, passive and anteriorised operation of the mandible, that is to say with no activation or with reduced activation of the protractor muscles of the mandible, this being for therapeutic purposes. The device according to the invention is particularly intended for treating mandibular retrognatic skeletal problems in the young when growing and problems linked with dysfunctions of the temporomandibular articulations at any age.
