Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an injection cannula.
More specifically, it relates to an injection cannula comprising a sheath, a handle part and a catheter part. According to the invention, the handle part has a gripping member in which a cannula is mounted, the catheter part comprises a catheter connected to a catheter base and supported by the cannula, and the sheath, in the assembled state, surrounds the cannula, the catheter it supports and at least part of the base of the catheter.
The accompanying drawings show an embodiment of an injection cannula for use in medical treatment.
Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will be better understood on reading the appended drawings in which
FIGS. 1 and 2 are perspective views showing the whole cannula, the cannula being transparent in FIG. 1 and not transparent in FIG. 2, and
- Figures 3 and 4 are exploded views of the cannulas of Figures 1 and 2.
The embodiment will now be described with reference to FIGS. 1 and 4 in which the analogous parts bear identical references.
The series of Figures 1 to 4 represents a second embodiment of injection cannula 2 which, in its entirety, is shown in Figures 1 and 2. It comprises an elongated tubular sheath 4 which is temporarily connected to a part 6 forming a handle, shown in FIGS. 3 and 4. As shown in FIG. 3, the part 6 forming a handle supports a part 8 of the catheter which is shown in more detail in FIG. 4 and which comprises a catheter 12 integrated into a base 10 of catheter whose rear part is arranged, in 1 mounted state, in a cavity 36 of the handle part 6. The base 10 of the catheter has a conical tip and the outside has two diametrically opposite wings which protrude transversely to the longitudinal direction of the cannula 2 and of the catheter 12. On the side of the base 10 opposite the wings 30, 32, a tab 34 is also arranged transversely to the longitudinal direction of the cannula and is used as a stop when handling the injection cannula 2. The handle part 6 further comprises a cannula 14 fixed to a gripping member 16 in the center of the cavity 36, the gripping member 16 being itself temporarily connected to a closing member 16 which, when using the injection cannula, allows the passage of air at the same time as it prevents reflux blood from the blood system. The closing device 18 is practically tubular and comprises a filter 20. After removal of the closing member 18 from the gripping member 16, this gripping member can be connected for example to a syringe (not shown).
The injection cannula 2 is used in the following manner. After removal of the packaging surrounding the cannula 2, the sheath 4 is removed, this sheath completely surrounding the cannula 14, the catheter 12 supported by the cannula, as well as the conical front part of the base 10 when it is mounted. Two tongues 38, 40 protruding in the longitudinal direction of the sheath 4 and integrated into the latter are in contact with the front part of the gripping member 16. Each tongue 38 and 40 has, on its internal face, at least one projecting part 26 which, in the assembled state of the sheath, is in contact behind a shoulder 28 placed at the front edge of the gripping member 16, so that the sheath 4 is fixed satisfactorily. The cannula 4 and the catheter 12 which it supports are released by removing the sheath 4. The sheath 4 and the gripping member 16 have grooves and ribs 22 and 24 respectively placed in the longitudinal direction of the cannula 2 so that the retention is reliable during the removal of the sheath and the subsequent handling of the cannula 2. The cannula 14 is then introduced through the skin and the blood vessel, the catheter 12 being placed in the blood vessel. The wings 30, 32 are used for fixing the base of the catheter to the patient. When removing the closure device 18, it is possible to apply for example a syringe. The cannula is withdrawn by using the tab 34 constituting a stop, and it is then possible to connect the base 10 of the catheter to another medical device, for example to a reserve of liquid transmitted to the blood vessel.
Of course, various modifications can be made by those skilled in the art to the cannulas which have just been described only by way of nonlimiting examples without departing from the scope of the invention.
