Abstract

The awning has a layer of sheeting stretched over a framework made of several arched sections joined at either side. Several of these arched sections (8) have a thin external wall (4b) covered with a temporary adhesive (30) to hold a layer of sheeting in place. This is then fixed to the arched section by a number of staples (40) which go through the sheeting (14), the adhesive and the thin external wall of the section. A staple cover can also be used to hide the staples. The adhesive enables correct positioning of the sheeting before stapling. ADVANTAGE - Ease of manufacture, flexible positioning and repositioning of sheeting before final stapling.

ON A REINFORCEMENT AND METHOD FOR ITS MANUFACTURE
The invention relates to the field of blinds and relates more particularly to a basket comprising one or more sheets of fabric or flexible synthetic material, fixed to a frame, by means of a limited number of staples according to a specific, effective and simple to implement.

 Various processes are already known for manufacturing baskets which consist, first of all, of forming a metal frame to serve as a support for at least one sheet. This metal frame is, in general, made up of a set of arches of various shapes, the ends of which are held together, on each side, in a fixed or mobile manner depending on whether the basket is foldable or not.

 According to the process used, the profiles constituting the arches of the metal frame are of different nature and shape.

 Figures la to correspond to a first known method and illustrate the steps to be carried out successively to join two sheets and fix them on a hoop of the metal frame. Each of the arches of the metal frame can be made up of several sections integral with each other.

 As can be seen in Figure la, we choose profiles A, for example in extruded aluminum, which have a discontinuous outer face B. We hammer in with a hammer C, a rod D of synthetic material between the branches Bi and B2 forming the side B, over the entire length of the said profile A. The rod D is intended to allow the stapling of the fabric or synthetic material sheets to form the basket.

 To do this, a longitudinal edge of a first sheet E is positioned on the rod D and is held in place by means of a first series of staples F passing through the sheet E and penetrating into the rod D, over all its length, by means of a stapler G, as shown schematically in Figure lb.

 Then, a longitudinal edge of a second sheet H is positioned so that it covers the edge of the sheet E already fixed on the rod D. To maintain the sheet H, a second series of staples I is then introduced. which must successively cross the two sheets H and E to sink into the rod D (see figure lc).

 Finally, to conceal the junction of the two sheets E and H, there is placed thereon a staple cover J having two branches J1 and J2 intended to be folded over one another to ensure a suitable aesthetic. To fix said staple cover J, the two branches Ji and J2 are moved aside and a third series of staples K is introduced through the three thicknesses J, H and E as far as the ring D (see FIG. Ld), which allows to join together.

 In Figure le, we see the assembly obtained finally, after having folded one on the other, the two branches Ji and J2 of the staple cover J, to hide the third series of staples K.

 Of course, in the case where it is a question of securing a single sheet, for example at the edge of a basket, there are then only two sets of staples over the entire length of the rod, one for fixing the sheet and the other to fix the staple cover.

 Note that this process is particularly cumbersome to implement because of the number of steps it involves. Indeed, it is first necessary to provide the profile with a wall in which one can staple the sheets, then it is necessary to successively drive several series of staples according to the number of sheets to be fixed and this, over the entire length of the hoops. However, these arches are often several meters, which leads to the introduction of a very large number of staples and contributes to an increase in the time of manufacture of the baskets and therefore their cost.

 However, this method is well suited to sheets of flexible and very fine synthetic material called "lacquers". Indeed, these must be perfectly stretched on the frame to meet the aesthetic requirements and the attachment points (staples) must belong to the left surface that the lacquer takes when it is heat-shrunk on the frame if the we want no creases or irregularities to appear.

 FIGS. 2a and 2b illustrate another known method for the production of baskets which consists, as previously, in choosing metal profiles L, obtained by extrusion, which have a discontinuous external face M but also a spacer N forming a parallel continuous internal wall on side B intended to be used for fixing a canvas.

 If we refer to Figure 2a, we see that to secure a fabric O to the profile L, we pass said fabric O inside the profile L between the branches Ml and M2 of the discontinuous face M, in order to bring it in the vicinity of the spacer N. Then, by means of a stapler Q, a series of staples P are introduced into said spacer N, which pass through the fabric O to hold it in place.

 In a subsequent step shown diagrammatically in FIG. 2b, a rod R is inserted between the two branches M1 and M2 of the discontinuous face M to permanently fix the fabric O over the entire length of the profile L but also to conceal the staples P and ensure a acceptable finish.

 Although the number of staples to be installed in the spacer N is three times less than according to the above method (three successive series of staples), it has been found in practice that the realization of such a stapling is very difficult and unsatisfactory in most cases. In fact, the profiles used are manufactured by extrusion, in particular because of the need for a spacer N, the thickness of which is then too great to allow correct stapling. Also, the staples P twist by sinking into the spacer N and poorly penetrate there. I1 results in poor maintenance.

 In addition, the fabric O acts in the opposite direction to the desired effect given its positioning and acts in a way as a lever which tends to extract the rod R as well as the clips P which are, moreover, more or less well pressed into the spacer N.

 The combination of these two phenomena (excessively thick spacer and lever action of the fabric) lead to poor results in terms of the maintenance obtained.

 It should be noted, moreover, that this method is very difficult to apply in the case where the basket comprises several pieces of canvas which must be joined at a hoop.

 Furthermore, this process is generally implemented with fairly thick and resistant materials such as waxed fabrics, which support this type of stapling and its consequences. However, in the search for new materials, in particular for better aesthetics, we have been led to use materials that are more delicate to use, such as flexible and fine synthetic materials called "lacquers". Also, these sheets can not be positioned correctly in the profile as is necessary to come against the spacer, because these materials do not support creases and do not allow a position correction, especially on long lengths such as those to which we often have to do for baskets (6 or even 12 meters).

 As a result, it has been found in practice that this method cannot be transposed to relatively fragile materials which require maintenance and positioning without error in order to achieve satisfactory mounting quality and in particular suitable strength and aesthetics.

 The invention therefore aims to provide a simple and easy to implement method for quickly and conveniently fixing one or more superimposed sheets which extend opposite each other, in particular of synthetic material fine and flexible, by obtaining a correct maintenance of the stretched sheets on a frame, a good resistance of the whole and the required aesthetics.

 To this end, the subject of the invention is a basket of the type comprising at least one sheet extending over a frame formed by a plurality of arches having a central part and lateral branches, the ends of which are held together on each side. of the basket, characterized in that at least some of said arches have a thin outer wall covered by a temporary adhesive for temporary retention for a longitudinal area of a sheet fixed to an arch by a series of definitive fixing clips which pass through the sheet and adhesive and which are pressed into the thin outer wall of the roll bar.

According to other features of the invention
the staples are hidden by a staple cover placed on the longitudinal zone of said sheet and fixed to said hoop by said series of definitive fixing staples which pass through the staple cover, the sheet and the adhesive and which are pressed into the thin outer wall of said arch.

stretching said sheet and holding it in place on said thin outer wall with a temporary temporary holding adhesive,
a series of final fastening clips are introduced while the adhesive is active, in said thin wall through said sheet and said adhesive.

According to other features of the invention
- After the introduction of the final fixing clips in the thin wall, the lateral deformation of the ends of said clips is caused.

 - Prior to the introduction of the final fastening staples, a staple cover is placed on the longitudinal zone of the said sheet and the said series of staples is introduced into the said thin wall, through the staple cover, the sheet and the adhesive.

 - prior to the introduction of the final fixing clips, a longitudinal zone of a second sheet which extends opposite to the first sheet is positioned on said longitudinal zone of said sheet, the second sheet is stretched and holding it in place on said first sheet with a second temporary temporary holding adhesive and introducing a single series of permanent fixing clips, while the first and second adhesives are active, in said thin wall through all of the sheets and adhesives.

 - The hoops with a thin outer wall are produced by extrusion.

 FIG. 3 represents a basket 1 according to the invention comprising a metal frame consisting of four arches 2-4-6-8 each having two lateral branches of which only one 2a-4a-6a-8a is visible in this figure. The ends of said lateral branches are joined and held together, on each side of the basket 1, by a holding member 10 for the side visible here.

 The basket 1 also comprises two sheets 12 and 14 which extend opposite one another, respectively on the hoops 2 and 4 for the sheet 12 and on the hoops 4, 6 and 8 for the sheet 14 The sheets 12 and 14 are stretched and fixed on the arches 2-4-6-8 of the metal frame according to the method described below.

 Whatever the constitution of the sheets, they are in professional practice, designated most often, under the generic name of "canvas". In the description which follows, we have adopted this usual terminology which must therefore not be limiting in any way.

 FIG. 4 illustrates a type of retaining member used and it can be seen that the member 10 comprises several integral support elements 16, each to be associated by its upper part 16a with a lateral branch 2a-4a6a-8a of a 2-4-6-8 hoop; there are as many supporting elements as arches.

 If we refer more precisely to FIG. 5, we see that each support element 16 has, projecting from the same face, two separate passages 18-20 but oriented along the same axis parallel to the base of said support element 16. The passages 18-20 are intended to adapt, according to the arrow F1, around a passage 22 projecting from the following support element 16, to finally form a hinge to receive a pin 24, according to the arrow F2. Thus, the pins 24 make it possible to make integral two by two the support elements 16 fitted into each other and this, as many times as necessary depending on the number of arches constituting the frame.

We note that the joining of the support elements 16 is carried out in a mobile or on the contrary fixed manner depending on whether the basket is foldable (according to the arrow
F3 shown in Figure 3) or is not collapsible.

 In the example described here, the poles 2-4-6-8 consist of rolled and welded sheets, optionally assembled together by connecting members known per se, for example in the case of long lengths.

However, other profiles can be used insofar as they have at least one thin outer wall intended to serve as a fixing base for fabrics, as described below.

 By thin wall is meant a wall whose thickness is such that it does not have too much resistance to the penetration of the points of the staples. Also, the important thing being the penetration of the staples into the thin wall, the harder the material which constitutes it, the less the staple must be stressed and the less the thickness of said walls must be important.

 Thus, for walls of synthetic material offering a relatively low resistance to penetration, it is possible to adopt walls with a thickness of the order of a few millimeters while for walls of stainless steel, their thickness cannot exceed a few tenths of a millimeter. . This gives completely satisfactory stapling without the risk of the staples sticking out, as explained with reference to FIG. 9.

 The other profiles that can be used can consist of sheets rolled longitudinally with close edges or, as the case may be, sheets rolled whose edges are joined together by longitudinal crimping, welding, gluing, stapling, etc.

 The use of rolled-welded aluminum sheets is particularly advantageous insofar as it makes it possible to achieve thicknesses of the order of a millimeter, which makes it possible to secure and resist stapling of the fabrics on the arches.

 The fabrics, as for them, are out of flexible and fine synthetic material but of course, the expert can choose other known materials in particular in the field of blinds.

The method of fixing the fabric 14 to the outer wall 8b of the arch 8 will now be described
Referring to Figure 6, we see that we first apply an adhesive 30 on the face 8b of the arch 8. This adhesive 30 is of any known type and must have sufficient characteristics to allow correct positioning of the fabric 14 and its retention in place at least the time necessary to perform the stapling.

 The fabric 14 is stretched and a longitudinal zone 14a (shown in FIG. 7) is glued onto said adhesive 30, over the entire length of the arch 8.

 In addition, this adhesive 30 makes it possible, in the case of an initial poor positioning, to correctly replace the fabric 14 without any wrinkles, by peeling off the area 14a and by gluing it without risking damaging said fabric 14. This is particularly advantageous for fabrics made of fine and flexible synthetic material which are very satisfactory from the point of view of resistance and aesthetics but which are very delicate to put in place because they are shiny, they do not support any irregularity such as creases.

 In the example described here, a staple cover 32 is provided having two flaps 34-36 intended to be folded over one another after stapling. The staple cover 32 is placed above the longitudinal zone 14a of the fabric 14.

 As can be better seen in Figures 7 and 8, there is therefore a set of layers superimposed on the thin outer wall 8b of the arch 8, namely the adhesive 30, the longitudinal zone 14a of the fabric 14 and the staple covers 32.

 The flaps 34-36 are kept apart and then permanent fixing staples 40 are introduced into the staple cover 32, passing between said flaps 34-36, while the adhesive 30 keeps the fabric 14 in its correct position.

 In FIGS. 8 and 9, it can be seen that the staples 40 pass successively through the adhesive 30, the fabric 14, the staple cover 32 and the thin wall 8b. Advantageously, staples are chosen whose branches have beveled ends 42-44. Also, under the effect of the pressure exerted on said clips 40, the ends 42-44 pierce the thin wall 8b to sink through it and deform laterally thanks to their bevelled shape. Other types of staples can be used as long as they allow suitable stapling directly into a metal wall.

 This gives a clean and secure attachment of the fabric 14 on the arch 8, without the clips 40 are visible.

 However, in other cases, one can choose to use staples having an aesthetic such that it is then not necessary to conceal them. The staples 40 are then introduced directly into the thin wall 8b through the fabric 14 and the adhesive 30.

 One proceeds in a similar manner to fix the fabric 12 on the arch 2, that is to say that is applied successively to said arch 2, a temporary adhesive for temporary maintenance, a longitudinal area of the fabric 12 and possibly a staple cover and this assembly is definitively fixed by staples which penetrate into the arch 2 and deform laterally to ensure a secure and resistant attachment.

The method of joining and fixing the fabrics 12 and 14 on the arch 4 is described below with reference to FIGS. 10 to 13
The thin outer wall 4b is covered, at least partially, with an adhesive 50, then the margin 12b of the fabric 12 is stretched and placed thereon (corresponding substantially to the surface of the wall 4b), with the possibility of reposition said fabric 12 if necessary.

 The excess material of the fabric 12 is cut relative to the arch 14.

 The margin 12b of the fabric 12 thus maintained is then covered, at least partially, with an adhesive 52 which then receives the margin 14b of the second fabric 14 which extends opposite the fabric 12.

 It follows from these operations that the fabrics 12 and 14 are temporarily held in place in the position that they must finally have, at least the time to perform the stapling.

 As in the previous example, a staple cover 54 is provided to conceal the final fixing staples 60. Also, while the temporary holding adhesives 50-52 are still active, said staple cover 54 is placed on the margin 14b of the canvas 14 and its two flaps 56-58 are moved aside to drive a series of final fastening clips 60 into wall 4b.

 As can best be seen in FIGS. 12 and 13, the staples 60 pass successively through the staple cover 54, the fabric 14, the adhesive 52, the fabric 12 and the adhesive 50 then the thin wall 4b of the arch 4.

 The clips 60 have branches whose ends 62-64 are bevelled, which facilitates their penetration into the arch 4 and allows their lateral deformation. Said staples 60 are thus prevented from coming out.

 It will be noted that the series of definitive fastening staples 60 is sufficient in itself to ensure the fixing of the assembly, that is to say of the fabrics 12-14 and possibly of the staple covers 54.

 Of course, as before, the presence of the staple cover 54 may prove to be useless, especially if it is possible, from an aesthetic point of view, to leave the staples 60 visible. In this case, these are directly planted through the canvases / adhesives 12-14-50-52.

 When it is desired to fix the fabrics at the level of each arch, whether it is a junction of two fabrics or a single fabric, it is also possible to carry out the abovementioned operations to fix an intermediate longitudinal zone of a fabric such as for example the longitudinal area of the fabric 12 which is located at the level of the arch 6.

 The process which has just been described applies to all kinds of fabrics such as heat-shrinkable polyvinyl chloride sheets ("lacquers"), sheets of non-woven material, textile products based on synthetic or natural fibers: acrylic, cotton, coated fabric, etc.

 In the case of heat-shrinkable sheets or "lacquers", the positioning process is completed by hot shrinking operations, for example by means of an infrared ray heater. Before stapling, these operations make it possible to soften the sheet which then becomes malleable and easy to stretch and position while, after stapling, the heating helps to standardize the appearance of the entire basket by removing any small residual defects .

 Figures 14 to 17 illustrate another embodiment of the invention according to which a basket 70 of rounded shape is obtained, for example in a half-moon shape.

 In this case, the arches 72-74-76 constituting the metal frame of said basket 70 must be bent.

 As in the previous case, said arches 72-7476 are held together, on each side of the basket 70, by a holding member 78 similar to member 10.

 The basket 70 comprises two fabrics 80-82 stretched and fixed on the poles 72-74-76 extending opposite one another.

 According to the invention, the arches 72-74-76 must have at least one thin outer wall 74a (see FIG. 15) to allow a correct and safe stapling of the fabrics 80-82. Furthermore, in order to properly carry out the bending operation, a spacer 84 is advantageously provided. Here, the arch 74 is produced by extrusion and the latter has a thin outer wall 74a having a thickness slightly greater than a millimeter. The fabrics 80-82 are fixed on the curved arches.

 The method of joining and fixing the two fabrics 80-82 on the arch 74 is similar to that described with reference to FIG. 10.

 In FIG. 15, it can be seen that the face 74a is covered, at least partially, with a temporary temporary holding adhesive 86. The latter then receives a longitudinal margin 80a of the first fabric 80 which is thus temporarily held in its final position.

 A second adhesive 88 is then applied to the margin 80a to maintain a longitudinal margin 82a of the fabric 82.

 The set of fabrics / adhesives shown diagrammatically in FIG. 16 is definitively fixed to the arch 74 by staples 90 which, in the case considered here, remain visible after mounting of the basket 70. Here, the staples 90 also have branches with bevelled ends 92-94 to allow their penetration into the arch 74 and their lateral deformation to prevent them from coming out later.

 The final fixing clips 90 are introduced into the thin outer wall 74a while the adhesives 86-88 are still active, that is to say while they hold the fabrics 80-82 in place.

 FIG. 17 shows that said staples 90 pass through the fabrics 80-82 and the adhesives 86-88 to sink through the wall 74a and deform laterally as explained above.

 Here too, the series of staples 90 definitively maintain, alone, the fabrics 80-82 on the arch 74.

 Of course, the procedure is analogous for fixing the fabric 80 or 82 respectively on the poles 72-76 except that a single adhesive is provided to hold a single fabric.

 It is noted that, unlike the methods known to date where the staples were used for the provisional maintenance of each canvas and where there were as many series of staples as there were fabrics, the single series of staples used according to the invention allows, it alone, to ensure the final fixing of the fabrics and possibly of the staple cover.

These are the adhesives that are used to temporarily hold the fabrics.

 In addition, the method according to the invention makes it possible to correctly position, possibly in several successive stages, fabrics made of relatively fragile material, which was more difficult to achieve with known methods.

 Finally, stapling on the thin outer wall of the profile saves the staple ring used in the only process which, until now, allowed the fixing of "lacquers".
