Abstract

The subject of the present invention is a break-out termination for fibre-optic cables. It is constituted by the combination of three parts joined by adhesive bonding: a cable inlet (1) fitted with a gland (seal) (2), a transparent intermediate tube (3), allowing inspection after assembly, and a fibre outlet (4) equipped with sheathed flexible protective tubes (5), the whole assembly being covered with a transluscent heat-shrinkable sleeve after mounting. It relates in particular to the field of telecommunications networks and is intended to allow the connection of a fibre-optic cable to one or more other cables, or to an item of equipment.

Description

BREAKING HEAD FOR FIBER OPTIC CABLES
The present invention relates to a burst head for fiber optic cables.

It relates in particular to the field of telecommunications networks and is intended to allow the connection of a fiber optic cable to one or more other cables, or to equipment.

The devices produced to date generally consist of two relatively complex and expensive metal parts, assembled by screwing or snap-fastening, which does not guarantee sealing. This equipment is most often adapted to a single type of cable.

In addition, the nature of the material used does not allow the optical fibers to be checked once the device has been assembled.

The device according to the present invention proposes to remedy these drawbacks. Indeed, it makes it possible, at a cost substantially lower than that of other similar devices, burst heads, suitable for all types of cables, with bundles, with helical grooved rods, or the like, and making it possible to reduce the time required to connect fiber optic cables and therefore the cost of labor.

I1 consists of the combination of three parts assembled by gluing: a cable inlet fitted with a cable gland, a transparent intermediate tube allowing control after assembly, and a fiber outlet equipped with flexible tubes sheathed in protection, the assembly being covered with a translucent heat-shrinkable sheath after assembly.

In the accompanying drawings, given by way of nonlimiting example, of one of the embodiments of the subject of the invention
Figure 1 shows the various elements of the device not assembled.

Figure 2 is an axial longitudinal section of the assembled device.

FIG. 3 is a cross section of the fiber outlet according to the arrows A-A of FIG. 1.

The device, Figures 1 to 3, consists of a cable inlet 1 provided with a cable gland 2, a transparent intermediate tube 3, in methyl methacrylate or equivalent, and a fiber outlet 4 with sheathed protection tubes 5.

The procedure is as follows
The outer sheath 7 of the cable 6 is removed over a length of approximately one meter, and the cable is introduced into the cable gland 2 and the seal 8. The protective tape (generally "KEVLAR" is turned over over the said seal so to provide excellent support, then the cable gland is placed in the cable inlet. The internal sheath 9 of the cable is cut flush with the internal face of the cable inlet, and the individual sheaths 10 of the fibers. 11. The internal part of the cable entry is filled with curable resin 12, then the transparent intermediate tube 3 is adjusted and glued to said cable entry.

The fiber outlet 4 forms a bowl, the bottom of which is provided with a series of holes 13 parallel to the axis of the device. The sheathed protection tubes 5 are stripped of their sheath over a length equal to that of these holes, then introduced into the latter.

The stripped optical fibers 11 are each passed through a sheathed tube 5, then the fiber outlet 4 is fixed by bonding to the transparent intermediate tube 3, and filled with curable resin 12 'intended to seal the unused holes 13 and to block the sheathed flexible tubes for the protection of optical fibers.

The assembly is covered with a translucent heat shrink tubing (not shown).

The positioning of the various constituent elements gives the object of the invention a maximum of useful effects which had not, to date, been obtained by similar devices.
