Abstract

Device which makes it possible to fasten works of art making sure that they are strictly and permanently vertical. A tab (1) fixed to the back of a picture is pierced with a hole (2) to allow fastening. This tab includes an extension (3) which nests, by virtue of a notch (4), over a hanging rod (5), or in an individual hook (6) itself extended by a guide (7). By virtue of this tab (1) the picture remains mandatorily and strictly vertical.

Description

 The present invention relates to a device for hanging pictures by ensuring them a rigorous and permanent balance, particularly with regard to the suspension on rods and picture rails.

 In all art galleries and in all museums, works of art are suspended from hooks sliding from bottom to top on rods of square section, themselves sliding laterally on U-shaped picture rails, which are permanently attached to the top of the gallery or museum walls.

 This universally used device therefore makes it easy to hang and move pictures without having to drill through the walls each time to fix new hooks.

 The hanging hooks pass inside a round peg, screwed into the frame of the painting.

 The major drawback of this attachment system is that the table never remains perfectly plumb in practice, for a number of reasons: location of the peg badly centered on the frame (one millimeter of gap is enough), peg which gradually turns on its axis, difference in weight in the frame and the canvas, vibrations of the street, bumps during cleaning, passage of the public, etc ...

 The device according to the invention overcomes this drawback entirely. A lug fixed on the table or the frame indeed has an extension which comes to fit, according to a first characteristic, in the suspension rod. Thanks to this tab, the table becomes integral with the rod and therefore remains at all times very exactly oriented like the rod itself.

 Figure I shows in elevation the device according to the invention.

 Figure 2 shows in section the device attached to a current suspension system on picture rails, a system already used in the last century in all museums.

 With reference to these drawings, the device comprises a tab bent at 900, the upper end (1) of which has a hole (2) allowing the hook to pass, and therefore the attachment of the table.

 The central part (3) of the bracket is pierced with two holes allowing the bracket to be screwed perpendicularly to the frame or the frame of the table.

 The tab is extended in its lower part (4) and folded to approximately 1500 to allow it to join the suspension rod (5) and, thanks to a cutout (6), to fit exactly into the rod.

This notch is 4 millimeters wide, that is to say adapted to the size of the rods existing on the market.

 The spacing (8) between the notch (6) and the axis of the hook (7) is such that it also adapts to the various hooks existing concurrently on the market.

 It can also be modified by slightly twisting the tab (4) in one direction or the other, depending on whether you want the table to be tilted or not.

 According to a second characteristic, the extension of the tab can come to fit on the same principle in a downward extension of the movable hook.

 Figure 3 shows how the hook can be extended to receive the tab and its notch.

 In order for the painting to be perfectly plumb, it is obviously important that, in all cases, the tab is itself perpendicular to the horizontal part of the frame.

 According to a particular embodiment, and to help the fixing by screwing, two small teeth (9), cut at the same time as the punching of the holes, will make it possible during assembly to position the tab well by penetrating slightly into the wood of the frame.

 At the time of screwing, the small teeth will prevent the tab from moving under the torque effect of the screwdriver.

 The device according to the invention can be constructed from different materials (steel, brass, aluminum) or also from injected plastic.

In the latter case, reinforcement gussets will be provided between the legs (2) and (3).

 According to another characteristic, the invention could be used in the case where the switchboard does not benefit from isolated corner hanging rails, top of door, staircase.

 Figure 4 shows in elevation a hook which is fixed to the wall permanently and which comprises a device replacing the rod in its guide function.

 The hook (10), made with a twisting tool from a tab, will include in its extension a flat (11) obtained with a stamping tool.

 Figure 5 shows in section a view AA 'of Figure 4, and shows that the outer dimension of the two lips will be 4 millimeters, that is to say the same as that of a picture rail.

 This means that the suspension bracket described in the first characteristic can be used with and / or without a suspension rail.

 The device according to the invention is particularly intended for hanging paintings and works of art.

Claims (5)

 1) Device for hanging pictures which has a hooking tab (1) folded at 900 and which can be screwed into the frame.  2) Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the tab has an extension provided with a notch (6) which fits into the suspension rod, thus maintaining the table integral with the rod and therefore perfectly plumb.  3) Device according to claims 1 and 2, characterized in that the fixing lug will be provided with two small teeth (9) preventing during mounting of the lug that it even moves slightly.  4) Device according to claims 1, 2 and 3 characterized in that the hook can be extended to receive the tab and its notch.  5) Device according to claims 1 and 2, characterized in that at the same time the picture rail, the rod and the suspension hook can be replaced by a single hook (10) comprising in its lower part a flat (11) allowing receive the notch (6) of the tab and therefore make the tab and the hook integral, thus keeping the table still plumb.
