Abstract

The invention relates to an infrared payment method, without contact, using a prepaid card which may be of the dual-chip type, especially for street parking. The device consists of at least one portable controller box 1 and of a plurality of on-board payer boxes 2. The controller box 1 and the payer boxes 2 are equipped with means for transmitting information by infrared radiation 6, 7. Each payer box 2 is equipped with reception means for a support 3 on which are arranged memory modules 4, 5, one of these modules containing a certain number of prepaid monetary units. In order to make a payment, the user calls up the time on his on-board payer box, then, by means of the keyboard 9, stores in memory the hourly rate in force and the duration of his parking. The said payer box 2 then calculates the price to be paid in monetary units and decrements the said units from the total number of monetary units contained in the memory 5. Checking is carried out subsequently by virtue of a dialogue which is coded in infrared radiation between a portable controller box 1 and a payer box 2 allowing the said controller box 1 to have access to the parking parameters stored in memory.
