Sur les bicyclettes, les changements de vitesses comportent habituellement un dérailleurtendeur portant deux petites roues- servant au renvoi de la chaîne et pouvant déplacer cette dernière sur les divers pignons lorsqu'on se sert du changement de vitesses. Le déraillement de la chaîne par un bras de support portant les petites roues provoque cependant un frottement, une usure et est une source de bruit important.
