Abstract

The invention relates to a drum brake with two shoes each one having a web 16 and a rim 18 of which the face opposite the drum receives a friction lining 20. The drum brake is arranged on a backing plate 10 and furthermore includes a mechanical control lever 34 including a body of significant length and small thickness with respect to its width, the said body having, at a first end 36, an opening 38 provided so as to receive a connection which is articulated to the web 16 of one of the shoes 14 at an intermediate point close to the opening, a slot provided in order to interact with a spacer 62 making it possible to force the shoes 12, 14 apart and, at the second end 40, a point for fastening a cable 54 for manipulating the lever. The cable is provided with a ferrule at its end which interacts with the lever. According to the invention the face of the body opposite the web 16 is substantially planar between the first end 36 and an intermediate point close to the second end; at this latter point, the body is bent so as to define a part which moves substantially away from the web 16, the fastening point being produced by folding the end part of the second end 40 over so that it becomes housed between the web 16 and the part which moves substantially away from the web, this all being so that between substantially the intermediate point close to the second end and the latter 40, the separation between the web 16 and the part of the body opposite the web is substantially greater than the diameter of the cable 54 and less than that of the ferrule.

Drum brake with two segments each having a core (16) and a rim (18), the opposite face of the drum receiving a friction lining (20), the said drum brake being disposed on a support plate ( 10), and further including a mechanical control lever (34) comprising a body of appreciable length and of small thickness compared to its width, the said body having, at a first end (36), an opening (38) intended to receive an articulated connection with the core (16) of one of said segments (14), at an intermediate point close to said opening, a notch provided to cooperate with a spacer (62) making it possible to urge spacing said segments (12,14), and, at the second end (40), a point of attachment of an operating cable (54) of said lever, said cable being provided with a ferrule (60) to its end cooperating with said lever, characterized in that the face of said body opposite said core (16) is substantially pl donkey between said first end (36) and an intermediate point (42) close to said second end, that at this last point (42), said body is folded so as to determine a part (44) deviating substantially of said core (16), said attachment point (48) being produced by folding the end part (46) of said second end (40) in such a way that it comes to lodge between said core ( 16) and said part (44) deviating substantially from said core, the whole in such a way that substantially between said intermediate point (42) close to said second end and the latter (40), the spacing between said core (16) and the part of said body opposite said core is substantially greater than said diameter of said cable (54) and less than that of said ferrule (60). 2.
